H I L I P S H I - F I S Y S T E M
Your vehicle may be equipped with a Philips Hi-Fi system, special ly designed to fit in with your cabin interior.
It consists of :
- A DSP (Digital Signal Processing) high power digital amplifier,
- A low subwoofer box (30Hz – 100 Hz),
- 8 Philips-specific loudspeakers,
- an MP3 reader.
Adjustment in CD or radio mode
The basic functions remain the same as those for the radio.
No extra adjustment is necessary.
However, to profit fully from your Philips system, you are recommended to adju st the audio functions: bass (Bass),
treble (Treb), front/rear balance (Fad), left/right balance (Bal) to position O, Loudness (Loud) to position ON for
listening to a CD and to position OFF for listening to the radio.
Your system also gives you Dolby wrap-around sound for Pop, Rock and Classical.
Note : In the event of poor reception of the FM stereo si gnal and/or the mono source, deactivate the sound a mbiances.

Refuelling
1. Press on the the control A
situated on the control panel
on the left hand side. The fuel
flap automatically opens up.
2.
Take care to select the pump
that corresponds to the correct
fuel type for your vehicle
.
3. Introduce the nozzle so as to
push in the metallic gate valve
B.
4. Make sure that the nozzle is
pushed in as far as possible
before starting to refuel (risk
of blowback).
5. Maintain this position through -
out the refuelling operation.
6. Push the fuel flap to reclose it. For petrol engines, unleaded fuel
is obligatory.
The filler neck is narrower, permit
-
ting unleaded petrol only.
If you are filling your tank to
the top, do not persist after the
third cut-off ; that could cause
your vehicle to malfunction. FUEL QUALITY
A label affixed to the inside of the
fuel flap indicates the fuels that
are authorised.
UNLEADED PETROL
DIESEL FUEL
The petrol engines are designed
to run on RON 95.
However, for better vehicle per -
formance (petrol engines), we rec -
ommend RON 98.
After switching off the ignition, the control A is active for only a few
minutes. If necessary, switch on the ignition again to reacti vate it.
If you have put in fuel that is wrong for your vehicle,
it is essential to have the tank drained before
you start the engine.

B O N N E T R E L E A S E
This operation should only be
performed when the vehicle is
stationary.
To unlock the bonnet, pull towards
you the control A located under
the dashboard.
Note : the driver’s door has to be
open for you to be able to action
the control. Move the lever
B, located at the
top of the grille to the right of the
chevrons, then raise the bonnet. Bonnet stay :
detach the stay C
and pivot it upwards to insert it
into the notch.
To close the bonnet
Move the stay C back to its initial
position, lower the bonnet and
then allow it to slam shut.
Check that the bonnet is locked.
Avoid opening the bonnet in high winds.

Due to the fact that the diesel fuel system is a high pressure system :
IT IS FORBIDDEN TO CARRY OUT ANY REPAIRS TO THE SYS
TEM.
HDi engines are of a highly technical nature.
All maintenance and repairs require specific qualificati ons which only a

Air filter
Follow the instructions given in the
Maintenance Guide.
If intervening under the bonnet when the engine is hot, e ven when the vehicle is stationary and the
ignition switched off, be aware that the cooling fan could operate at any time.
Check the engine oil level frequently between each routi ne service visit,
as well as before starting long journeys.
Engine coolant
The coolant level should
be between the
MIN. and
MAX. marks on the expan-
sion chamber.
If the engine is hot, wait 15 minutes
for it to cool down.

Never intervene on the cooling
system of an engine that is hot
(See «Levels»). 12V battery

Engine oil
Check the oil level with the
vehicle parked on horizon-
tal ground, with the engine
having been switched off for at
least 15 minutes.
Quality : See the Maintenance Guide. Brake fluid
The brake fluid level should
be between the MIN. and
MAX. marks on the reservoir
.
Quality : See the Maintenance Guide.
Should the warning lamp come on
while you are driving, stop imme-
diately and contact a CITROËN
dealer.
Pull out the manual dip-
stick.
The level should be be-
tween the
MIN. and MAX.
marks on the gauge.
It must never exceed the maximum.
Wash fluid for
windscreen, rear screen
and headlamps
Use only those products that are
approved by CITROËN.

Radiator - coolant
fluid
Checking the level and topping-
up with coolant should always be
done with the engine cold.
Engine hot
Wait fifteen minutes or for the
engine temperature to fall below
100°C, then slowly undo the cap
to allow the pressure to drop, pro-
tecting yourself with a cloth for
example. Topping up the engine oil
Take out the dipstick before filling.
Check the level after filling.
The maximum mark must never
be exceeded.
Do up the cap before closing the
bonnet.

Note : for vehicles with a particle
filter, the cooling fan can operate
as long as ten minutes after the
engine has stopped.

Screen wash fluid
It is essential to have sufficient
wash fluid, particularly if your ve-
hicle has Xenon dual-function di-
rectional headlamps.

Bleed on a regular basis (at every oil change).
To evacuate the water, slacken the bleed screw or
the water-in-diesel-fuel sensor, which is located at the
base of the filter.
Persist until water ceases to flow out.
Then retighten the bleed screw or the water-in-diesel-
fuel sensor.

Protection cover
HDi 138 engine
Remove the protection cover by first unclipping point
1,
then 3 and 4. Detach point 2 by pulling towards you,
then lift.
To reposition the protection cover, attach point 2 first.
Lower the cover, keeping it centred. Clip points 1 and
4 , pushing vertically and slightly rearwards. Clip point 3
pushing down vertically.

Priming the circuit
In the event of running out of fuel :
- After filling (minimum 5 litres), action the manual priming pump, until some re
sistance is felt.
- Then action the starter, gently pressing the accelerator unti l the engine starts.
If the engine fails to start at the first attempt, wait 15 second s before trying again.
If the engine fails to start after a few attempts, repeat the procedure from the beginning. When the engine is idli ng,
accelerate gently to complete the purge of the circuit.
