The driver is made aware of any faul t condit ion by the parki ng aid s wi tch Light Emi tt ing Di ode(LED) flas hing and a conti nuous warning t one bei ng emi tt ed for 3 seconds , in place of the normal short tones when t hes ys t em i s functi oning normal ly. Faul t codes can be read usi ng t he Int egrated Di agnost ic Syst em (IDS) vi a t he diagnost ics ocket.
Parking Aid Sensors
Four ul trasonic sens ors are located i n t he front and rear bumpers . Each s ens or compri s es a s ens or and a bumper ins ert .The ins ert ens ures t hat each s ensor i s correctl y ori entat ed in relat ion t o i ts l ocation i n t he bumper.
Each sens or has a three pin connect or which mat es wit h a bumper harnes s, whi ch in t urn is connect ed to the main bodyharnes s. Three pi ns provide for power s upply, ground and s ignal lines t o and from the parki ng aid modul e.
Each sens or compris es a pl as t ic hous ing which contai ns a piezo elect ric di s c. The disc res onat es at a frequency of 34.8kHz,produci ng t he ult ras oni c output. The di sc al s o receives t he reflected echo s ignal from any objects wit hi n range.
The parking ai d module controls t he operat ion of each sens or usi ng a digi tal output on t he s ignal line. The module controlst he sens or in one of t wo modes ; combi ned transmit ter and receiver mode or receiver mode only.

Sand Suitable for soft, predominantly dry,
yielding sandy ground, e.g. sand
dunes and deserts. If the sand is
damp or wet the Mud-Ruts program may be
more beneficial.
Parking aid
With the ignition on, the front and rear parking
sensors are activated whenever reverse gear is
selected. A short confirmation tone will sound
after one second.
If an obstruction is detected by the sensors, an
intermittent tone will sound (higher pitch for
objects detected by the front sensors). As the
vehicle moves closer to the obstruction the
intermittent tone in creases in frequency.
When the distance between the sensor and the
obstruction is less than approximately 30 cm
(1 foot) the tone becomes continuous.
The parking aid is automatically switched off
when the vehicle's forward speed exceeds 16
km/h (10 mph). Front parking aid - manual operation
When driving into a limited space, the front
parking aid can be ma nually activated by
pressing the switch on the facia. The switch
will illuminate and a short confirmation tone
will sound.
Wading
When wading through water, select the
program suitable for the surface beneath the
water.
The maximum depth of water should not
exceed 500 mm (19.7 inches).

Parking aidPRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
Park Distance Control (PDC) provides the
driver with informatio n on most obstructions,
and their distance from the vehicle, when
manoeuvring. PDC does this by using four
ultrasonic sensors on each bumper.
1. When objects are detected at this range the
PDC will emit a pulse tone which increases
in frequency as the vehicle gets closer to
the object.
2. When objects are sensed within this range,
approximately 30 cent imetres (12 inches)
the tone becomes continuous.

USING THE PARKING AID
PDC activation
Front PDC is activate d by pressing the PDC
button a short confirmation tone will be heard,
and the tell-tale will illuminate. The front
sensors will remain active as long as the
vehicle's speed does not exceed 16 km/h (10
mph).
If reverse gear is selected, front and rear
sensors are activated. In vehicles fitted with automatic transmission,
selecting neutral from re verse will keep front
and rear sensors active.
Front PDC deactivation
The PDC system can be deactivated by
pressing the PDC switch.
Towing
The rear sensors are au tomatically disabled
when a trailer is connected.
Sensor care
The sensors should be ke pt clean to maintain
accuracy and performance.
System fault
If a system fault is detected, a long
high-pitched tone will sound, and the switch
indicator lamp will fl ash. Contact your Land
Rover Dealer/Authorised Repairer as soon as
possible.
WARNING
Parking aids may not detect moving
objects such as children and animals
until they are dangerously close.
Always use extreme caution when
manoeuvring.
CAUTIONS
Parking aids are for guidance only, and
are not intended to replace the driver's
visual checks for obstructions when
manoeuvring.
PDC sensors may not detect some
obstructions. Obstru ctions such as
narrow posts, small objects close to the
ground, and some objects with dark
non-reflective surfaces for example.
Systems which use the same frequency
band as the front PDC sensors may
cause irregular tones to be emitted.

WARNINGS
Never exceed the maximum weights for
either the vehicle, or the trailer. Doing
so can cause accelerate d wear and damage to
the vehicle. It can also adversely affect vehicle
stability and braking, which in turn can lead to
loss of control and incr eased braking distance
resulting in a rollover or crash.
To preserve handling and stability, only
fit Land Rover approved towing
accessories.
Never use towing eyes, or lashing
points to tow a trailer. They have not
been designed for this purpose, and doing so
may cause them to fail resulting in injury or
death.
CAUTION
Only connect approved electrical circuits,
which are in good condition to the trailer
socket. Connecting incorrect , or faulty circuits
may seriously damage the vehicle's electrical
circuits.
