2. If NG, recheck A/T assembly harness connector terminals for damage or loose connection with harness connector.
OK or NG
OK >> INSPECTION END
NG >> Repair or replace damaged parts.

1. CONFIRM THE SYMPTOM
Check if vehicle creeps forward in “D ” position and vehicle can be started from D

OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 2.

2. CHECK SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS

Do the self-diagnostic results indicate ATF pressure switch 1, ATF pressure switch 3, front brake solenoid
valve, input clutch solenoid valve, accelerator pedal position sensor, vehicle speed sensor A/T (revolution sen-
sor) and vehicle speed sensor MTR?
YES >> Check the malfunctioning system. Refer to AT- 1 5 9 , "DTC P1841 ATF PRESSURE SWITCH 1" ,

SYMPTOM:
When a shift-down is performed, the engine speed does not smoothly return to the idling speed.
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
1. CHECK A/T FLUID LEVEL
Check A/T fluid level. Refer to AT- 1 2 , "
Checking Automatic Trans-
mission Fluid (ATF)" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 2.
NG >> Refill ATF.

44. Remove parking gear from output shaft.
45. Remove seal rings from output shaft.
46. Remove needle bearing from transmission case.
47. Remove revolution sensor from transmission case.
CAUTION:
Do not subject it to impact by dropping or hitting it.
Be careful not to damage harness with the edge of case.
Do not allow metal filings or foreign material to get on the
sensor front edge magnetic area.
Do not place in an area affected by magnetism.
48. Remove reverse brake snap ring using 2 flat-bladed screwdriv- ers.
NOTE:
Press out snap ring from the transmission case oil pan side gap
using a flat-bladed screwdriver, and remove it using another
screwdriver.
49. Remove reverse brake retaining plate from transmission case.

22. Measure clearance between retaining plate and snap ring. If not
within specified clearance, select proper retaining plate.
23. Install needle bearing to transmission case. CAUTION:
Take care with the direction of needle bearing. Refer to
AT- 2 6 0 , "
Locations of Adjusting Shims, Needle Bearings,
Thrust Washers and Snap Rings" .
Apply petroleum jelly to needle bearing.
24. Install revolution sensor to transmission case. Tighten revolution sensor bolt to the specified torque. Refer to AT- 2 5 0 , "
Compo-
nents" .
CAUTION:

25. Install new rear oil seal until it is flush into the rear extension (2WD models) using Tool or adapter case (4WD models) using
suitable tool.

Apply ATF to rear oil seal.
Do not reuse rear oil seal.Specified clearance “A” : Standard: 0.7 - 1.1mm
(0.028 - 0.043 in)

5. Tighten oil pump bolts to specified torque. Refer to AT- 2 5 0 ,
"Components" .
CAUTION:
Apply ATF to oil pump bushing.
6. Install new O-ring to input clutch assembly. CAUTION:
Do not reuse O-ring.
Apply ATF to O-ring.
7. Install converter housing to transmission case. CAUTION:
Do not reuse self-sealing bolt.
8. Make sure that brake band does not close turbine revolution sensor hole.
9. Install control valve with TCM.
a. Install A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 to bracket.

LEAK INSPECTION
Check for leaks at brake master cylinder to brake booster attachment point, reservoir tank, and brake tube
connections.
Removal and InstallationEFS004WA
REMOVAL
CAUTION:
Be careful not to splash brake fluid on painted areas; it may cause paint damage. If brake fluid is
splashed on painted areas, wash it away with water immediately.
Before removing brake master cylinder, depress the brake pedal 5-6 times with the key OFF to
deplete vacuum in the booster.
1. Drain brake fluid. Refer to BR-10, "
Drain and Refill" .
2. Disconnect harness connectors for fluid level sensor and pressure sensors.
3. Using a flare nut wrench, disconnect brake tube from brake master cylinder.
4. Remove brake master cylinder mounting nuts, and master cylinder assembly.

BRAKE BOOSTER

Removal and InstallationEFS004WD
REMOVAL
CAUTION:
Be careful not to deform or bend brake piping while removing and installing brake booster.
Replace clevis pin if it is damaged.
Be careful not to damage brake booster stud bolt threads. If brake booster is tilted or inclined dur-
ing installation, dash panel may damage the threads.
Attach the check valve in the correct direction.
1. Remove engine room cover with power tool. Refer to EM-12, "
Removal and Installation" .
2. Remove engine air duct assembly. Refer to EM-15, "
Removal and Installation" .
3. Remove brake piping from brake master cylinder.
4. Remove brake master cylinder. Refer to BR-15, "
Removal and Installation" .
5. Remove vacuum hose from brake booster. Refer to BR-20, "
VACUUM LINES" .
6. Disconnect active boost and delta stroke sensor harness connectors from brake booster assembly.
7. Remove brake pedal attachment snap pin and clevis pin from inside the vehicle.
8. Remove nuts on brake booster and brake pedal assembly.
9. Remove brake booster assembly from dash panel.
INSTALLATION
1. Loosen lock nut to adjust input rod length so that the length B (in the figure) satisfies the specified value.
2. After adjusting “B”, temporarily tighten lock nut and install
booster assembly to the vehicle.
Install a gaskets and spacer block between booster assembly
and the dash panel.
3. Connect brake pedal with clevis of input rod.
4. Install pedal bracket mounting nuts and tighten them to the specified torque.
5. Install brake piping from brake master cylinder to ABS actuator. Refer to BR-12, "
Hydraulic Circuit" .
