5. Press the transmitter button, and then press it two times within 10 seconds of
the first press. This will register the code.
6. When the encrypted code has been registered, the ETACS-ECU locks and
unlocks the doors automatically once.
7. If you are using two or more transmitters or have added a second transmitter,
the same registration procedure should be carried out within one minute after
completing step 4 .
8. Check whether the transmitter encrypted code has been registered in the
ETACS-ECU.
Connect special tool MB991824 (V.C.I.) to the data link connector. If the
transmitter lock or unlock button is pressed, special tool MB991824 (V.C.I.)
should sound once.
9. Registration mode will be canceled under the following conditions:
When the secret code for four transmitters has been registered; When one minute has passed after registration mode started; When special tool MB991824 (V.C.I.) is disconnected; When the key is removed from the key cylinder;
10. After the registration is completed, remove the ignition key and close all the
doors, and then check that the ke

y.
NOTE: If special tool MB991824 (V.C.I.) does not sound, the
transmitter encrypted code has not been registered yet.
Register the encrypted code again.
NOTE: If the code registration is difficult, refer to SWS

The sunroof should be initialized when any of the following components are
replaced, the sunroof position is miss timed, the sunroof is in learn mode.
Roof lid glass assembly Sunroof motor Sunroof-ECU
1. Ensure the components are correctly assembled. Ensure all the connectors are
connected securely.
2. If the sunroof is already in learn mode, go to step 3. If the sunroof is not in
learn mode, enter learn mode by i or ii.
i. Disconnect the sunroof-ECU connector while the sunroof is operating.
ii. Activate the jam preventing mechanism five times continuously.
3. Press the sunroof Close switch repeatedly until the sunroof is tilted up fully.
4. Press and hold the sunroof Close switch for at least three seconds.
5. Press the sunroof Close switch until the sunroof closes fully.
6. Press the sunroof Open switch until the sunroof opens fully. Then press the
sunroof Close switch until the sunroof closes fully. The sunroof should work
normally.
OPERATION CHECK Check that the following items. If faulty, replace the sunroof-ECU.
1.Installation condition of the sunroof assembly
2.Installation condition, deformation and contamination of the sunroof drive
cable NOTE: Do not stop the sunroof before it reaches the fully open or
fully closed position during operations in steps 5 and 6
above. If the sunroof has stopped accidentally, repeat the
procedure from step 1 .
CAUTION: Check that the following items are normal before
carrying out this operation check.

MANUFACTURER'S SUGGESTED SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE Manufacturer recommends the belt be replaced every 60,000 miles except in
California, Massachusetts and Vermont. In California, Massachusetts and Vermont,
timing belt replacement is recommended, but not required, at 60,000 miles. In these
states, replace timing belt at 105,000 miles, unless previously changed. REMOVAL & INSTALLATION TIMING BELT Removal 1. On Galant, remove engine cover. On all models, remove skid plate and under
cover. Remove accessory drive belts. Using Pulley Holder (MB991800) and
Pins "B" (MB001802), remove crankshaft pulley.
2. Disconnect harness connectors on connector bracket. See Fig. 1
or Fig. 2
.
Remove connector bracket. Remove engine mount support bracket. Remove
both upper timing belt covers.
3. Remove tensioner pulley and tensioner bracket. Remove crankshaft position
sensor harness clamp. Remove lower timing belt cover. Remove front engine
mount and front engine mount bracket.
4. Turn crankshaft clockwise to align camshaft and crankshaft timing marks. See
Fig. 3
. If timing belt is to be reused, place arrow on belt to indicate direction
of belt rotation.
5. Loosen belt tensioner

g CAUTION: This application is an interference engine. Do not
rotate camshaft or crankshaft when timing belt is
removed, or engine damage may occur.
CAUTION: Always turn crankshaft in clockwise direction (as
viewed from front of engine).

Rear Wiper And Washer - Endeavor
GENERAL DESCRIPTION REAR WIPER OPERATION
If the rear wiper and washer switch is turned to the "INT" position with the
ignition switch at "ACC" or "ON" position, the ETACS-ECU turns ON the rear
wiper drive signal for three seconds (approximately two cycles), then 7.4
seconds later the intermittent motion operates every eight seconds. If the
selector lever is moved to the "R" position when the rear wiper and washer
switch is turned to the "INT" position and the ignition switch is at the "ACC"
or "ON" position, the park/neutral position switch "R" turns ON. One second
later, the ETACS-ECU turns ON the rear wiper drive signal for three seconds
(approximately two cycles). Then, 7.4 seconds later, the intermittent operation
(eight second cycles) is restored.
REAR WASHER OPERATION
If the rear wiper and washer switch is turned to the ON (washer) position with
the ignition switch at the "ACC" or "ON" position, the rear washer ON signal
is sent to the ETACS-ECU, causing the rear wiper signal to turn on after 0.3
seconds. After the rear washer switch signal turns off, the rear wiper signal
turns off in three seconds. If the rear washer switch is turned to the ON
position while the rear wiper is in intermittent mode, the rear washer works for
that period when the washer switch remains on. Then the rear wiper returns to
the intermittent mode.
REAR WIPER AND WASHER DIAGNOSIS The rear wiper and washer are controlled by the Simplified Wiring System (SWS).
For troubleshooting, refer to SWS DIAGNOSIS
.

If the windshield mist wiper switch is turned to the ON position, with the
ignition switch at the "ACC" or "ON" position, the mist wiper high-speed
operation signal is sent to the front-ECU. This signal turns on the wiper speed
control relay, causing the wipers to work at high-speed while the mist switch is
on. While the windshield mist wiper switch remains turned on when the
intermittent mode is still working, the wipers work as the mist wiper. However,
the wipers return to the intermittent mode again when the switch is changed
back to "INT" position. To prevent the windshield mist wiper from operating when the windshield
wiper switch is turned OFF, the windshield mist wiper does not work for 0.5
second after the windshield intermittent wiper switch, the windshield low-
speed wiper switch and the windshield high-speed wiper switch are turned
OFF.
WINDSHIELD WASHER OPERATION
If the windshield washer switch is turned to the ON position with the ignition
switch at "ACC" or "ON" position, the windshield washer ON signal is sent to
the front-ECU. After 0.3 second, the windshield wiper signal turns on. After
the windshield washer switch signal turns off, the windshield wiper signal
turns off in three seconds. If the windshield washer switch is turned on while the windshield wiper is at
intermittent mode, and the windshield washer switch is turned OFF within 0.2
second, the wiper works only once to perform mist operation. When the
windshield washer switch is turned on for more than 0.2 second, the wiper
performs the same movement as normal condition from the time when 0.2
second has elapsed, and then returns to intermittent operation.
WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER DIAGNOSIS The windshield wiper and washer are controlled by the Simplified Wiring System
(SWS). For troubleshooting, refer to SWS DIAGNOSIS
.
NOTE: Even when the ETACS-ECU has failed, the windshield wiper
can work at low speed in fail-safe mode. (Normally, the
