Power train group
The power train dismounting-remounting is to be performed on the engine compartment upper
part by means of a mobile lifting device.
The vehicle i s to be placed on a 2–columns
elevator.
Dismo unt :
- battery
- air filter inlet pipe;
- air filter assembly ;
- engine bonnet;
- front wheels.
Disconnect the oxygen sensor ( 1) connector
or the connectors of the two oxyge n sensors
(EURO 00 ).
Di smount : thermal protection screen and
descending tube from the exhaust manifold.
DISMOUNTIN G
Drain:
- the cooling circuit on the water pump
inlet pipe; - oil from gearbox;
- oil from engine if necessary;
- refrigerant fluid to a charging station
(vehicles with AC);
- oil from the power steering circuit
(vehicles with power steering).
- Oil from the power steeri ng circuit
(vehicles with power steering);

DISMOUNTIN G
Place the vehicle on a two-columns eleva-
tor. Disc onnect the battery.
Dr ain the cooling circ uit by the radiator
lower part hose.
Dismount the distribution belt (see chap-
ter 11 “ D i s t ribution belt “)
Dismount t he air filter
Disconnect : - acceleration cable from the valve con-
trol lever; -valve position potentiometer connec-
tor (1);
-atmospheric pressure sensor connec-
tor (2);
-step-by-step engine connector( 3);
- temperature sensor connector ( 4)
from the inlet manifold .
Disconnect :
-induction coil connector ( 5);
-f uel hoses (supply/return);
- injectors connectors;
- spark plugs cables.
Dismount the three attachment screws of the
induction coil ( 6).

DISMOUNTIN G
Disconnect the battery.
Dismount the air inlet duct from the battery
protection screen. Dismount the air filter four attachment
screws.
Disconnect the hose ( 1) for oil vapors re-
aspiration, between the cylinder head cover and
the air filter. Remove the air filter.
Disconnect :
〈 Dismount acceleration cable ( disconnect
the cable end from the body control lever and
extract it from the support sleeve) 〈 connectors
I – of the step-by-step engine
II – of the body potentiometer
( pull upwards the no.2 clamp and disconnect
the connector). Disconnect the body control lever
Dismount
the valve body.
REMOU NT I NG
Replace the valve body gasket.
Perform the dismounting operations in the
reverse order.

DISMOUNTIN G
Place the vehicle on a two-columns
elevator. Disconnect the battery.
Dismo unt :
- the air filter assembly;
- the acceleration cable from the body
control lever; - the injection ramp ( see c hapter 13
“Injection ramp”).
Disconnect the electric connectors:
- body position potentiometer ( 1)
- atmospheric pressure sensor (2)
- step-by-step engine (3);
- air temperature sensor( 4)
Disconnect the fuel supply ducts (supply and return)
Disconnect the petrol vapors re-aspiration hose from the inlet manifold.
Uncouple the body control lever and remove the valve body.
Dismount the attachment nuts and screws of the inlet manifold.
Extract the inlet manifold .
REMOU NT I NG
Replace the inlet manifold gaskets.
Tighten at the required moment the inlet manifold nuts and screws, observing the sequence
shown in the drawing.
Perform the dismounting operations in the reverse order.

FILTER ELEMENT REPLACEMENT
Dismount the attachment
screws (1) of the air filter cover.
Detach the attachment clamps (2).
Remove the cover and replace the filter element ( 3).
DISMOUNTING OF THE AIR FILTER
Dismount the air filter inlet hose
Dismount the four-attachment screws (4)
of the air filter on the cylinder head cover and
inlet manifold. Lift the air filter and disconnect from the
filter, the oil vapors re-aspiration hose ( 5).

Perform the dismounting operations in the
reverse order.

FUEL SUPPLY

Fuel ramp
AT T E N T I O N !
When opening the fuel circuit, protect
by means of a gauze piece against petrol
s plashing due to residual pressure.
DISMOUNTIN G
Disconnect the battery.
Dismount the air filter.
Disconnect:
- pipe 1 for fuel supply;
- pipe 3 for fuel return;
- pipe 4 of the pressure controller.
REMARK:
For EURO 00 and EURO 96, the
pre ssure c ontrol ler and return pi pe are
placed in t he fuel tank.
Dismount the attachment screws ( 2) o f the
fuel ramp. Dismount the ramp. In order to dismount an injector, re trieve
the clip 5, and then extract the injector.
R EMOU NT I NG
Replace the annular gaskets from the
injectors bottom; if t he injector has been
dismounted, the gasket from the injector’s
head will be also replaced.
In order that petrol fuel supply and return
connection a re c orrectly m ounted, a ” clic”
must be heard when connecting. Perform the dismountin g operations in the
reverse order.

AT T E N T I O N !
When opening the fuel circuit, protect

the supply circuit.
Dismount the air filter.
Disconnect the fuel supply hose.
Connect the MOT 1311-04 device on the
ramp, and then reconnect the fuel supply
piping to the connection.
Mount the manometer 0 ÷ 10 bar and
the flexible hose MOT 1311 – 01.Bridge the terminals
3 and 5 of the fuel pump
relay H, placed in the fuse and relays box.
The measured pressure must be 3.5 bars.
Fo r vehicles with fuel circuit without return
(controller mounted on pump), the pressure is
constant.
