DI±1504± DIAGNOSTICSPOWER SEAT CONTROL SYSTEM (w/ Driving Position
Memory)
1698 Author: Date:
2005 SEQUOIA (RM1146U)
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The power seat control system (w/ memory) is equipped with the following functions:
Manual operation of the driver side seat.
Individual seat positions for two different drivers can be stored for the slide±reclining front±verti-
cal 8±way lifter.
Similarly, power mirror positions for two different drivers can be stored. These are stored/restored
with the seat positions.
The above operations are performed using serial communication.
As a safety precaution, the system disallows seat position restoration unless the ignition switch
is ON, and the park/neutral position switch is in the P (park) position.
Manual adjustment of the slide reclining lumbar can be performed even when the ECU is not
functional.
When the power seat control switch is operated, a command signal is sent to the position control ECU. The
position control ECU then activates the appropriate seat motor as needed. This memory system does not
use a seat position sensor. The seat position is detected by counting pulses that are output when the motor
turns. If there is no pulse output from the motor, the motor will stop operating. The ECU is designed so that
a malfunction of the seat memory system will not interfere with manual seat control. The seat memory switch
also sends signals to the position control ECU to memorize a given seat position. The seat memory switch
is later used to send signals to the position control ECU to return to one of the memorized positions.

Front passenger seat
CAUTION
The SRS front passenger airbag also
deploys with considerable force, and
can cause death or serious injury es-
pecially if the front passenger is very
close to the airbag. The front passen-
ger seat should be as far from the
airbag as possible with the seatback
adjusted, so the front passenger sits
upright.
Front seats (with SRS side airbags)
CAUTION
The SRS side airbags are installed in
the driver and front passenger seats.
Observe the following precautions.
Do not lean against the front door
when the vehicle is in use, since
the side airbag inflates with consid-
erable speed and force. Otherwise,
you may be killed or seriously in-
jured.
Do not use seat accessories which
cover the area where the side air-
bags inflate. Such accessories may
prevent the side airbags from acti-
vating correctly, causing death or
serious injury.
Do not modify or replace the seats
or upholstery of the seats equipped
with side airbags. Such change may
prevent the side airbag system from
activating correctly, disable the sys-
tem or cause the side airbag sys-
tem to inflate accidentally, resulting
in death or serious injury.
CAUTION
Do not adjust the seat while the
vehicle is moving as the seat may
unexpectedly move and cause the
driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Be careful that the seat does not
hit a passenger or luggage.
After adjusting the seat position, re-
lease the lever and try sliding the
seat forward and backward to make
sure it is locked in position.
After adjusting the seatback, push
your body back against the seat to
make sure the seat is locked in
position.
Do not put objects under the seats.
Otherwise, the objects may interfere
with the seat±lock mechanism or
unexpectedly push up the seat posi-
tion adjusting lever and the seat
may suddenly move, causing the
driver to lose control of the vehicle.

CAUTION
Avoid reclining the seatback any
more than needed. The seat belts pro-
vide maximum protection in a frontal
or rear collision when the driver and
the front passenger are sitting up
straight and well back in the seats. If
you are reclined, the lap belt may
slide past your hips and apply re-
straint forces directly to the abdomen
or your neck may contact the shoul-
der belt. In the event of a frontal
collision, the more the seat is re-
clined, the greater the risk of death
or personal injury.
3. SEAT LUMBAR SUPPORT
ADJUSTING SWITCH
Push the control switch in the desired
direction.
The amount of lumber support will change
while the switch is pushed.
Vehicles with the driving position memory
systemÐThe position of the driver's seat
and outside rear view mirrors can be
memorized. For details, see ªDriving posi-
tion memory systemº on page 71 in this
Section.
CAUTION
Adjustment should not be made
while the vehicle is moving.
When adjusting the seat, be careful
not to hit the seat against a pas-
senger or luggage.
Third seats only: Adjust both seat
cushions to the same position and
align both seatbacks at the same
angle when a person sits in the
third seat center position. Other-
wise, the person cannot wear the
seat belt properly and this may
cause serious injuries in a collision.
When folding up the third seats, do
not fold down or up the second
seats.
After adjusting the seat position, re-
lease the lever and try sliding the
seat forward and backward to make
sure it is lock in position.
After adjusting the seatback, push
your body back against the seat to
make sure the seat is locked in
position.
Do not allow sitting on top of a
folded±down seatback, or in the
luggage compartment while driving.
Persons not properly seated and/or
properly restrained by seat belts
can be severely injured in the event
of emergency braking or a collision.
Do not operate any equipment in
the luggage compartment while
driving. People not properly seated
and/or properly restrained by seat
belts can be severely injured in the
event of emergency braking or a
collision.
Do not load luggage with only the
seatback folded down. Do not fail
to swing the whole seat up in such
a case. Luggage sliding forward
during braking may cause an acci-
dent or severe injury.

RECALLING THE MEMORIZED POSITION
When you push button ª1º or ª2º, a
beep will sound and the driving posi-
tion will be automatically adjusted to
the position recorded for that button.
The memorized position can be recalled
under the following conditions:
The ignition key is in the ªON position
and the shift lever is in the ªPº posi-
tion.
The key is not in the ignition switch
and less than 30 seconds have passed
since opening the driver 's door.To stop the operation, push any driving
position memory button.
To reactivate the system, push the button
ª1º or ª2º again.
If the vehicle's battery is disconnected,
the memory will be erased and the posi-
tions will have to be set again.
CAUTION
Do not start the vehicle while the
adjustment are being made.
Take care not to select the wrong
button, or the seat could strike the
rear passenger or hit your body
against the steering wheel. If this
happens, you can stop the move-
ment by pressing another driving
position memory switch, or de-
pressing the brake pedal.
Toyota strongly urges that the driver and
passengers in the vehicle be properly re-
strained at all times with the seat belts
provided. Failure to do so could increase
the chance of injury and/or the severity of
injury in accidents.
The seat belts provided for your vehicle
are designed for people of adult size,
large enough to properly wear them.
Child. Use a child restraint system ap-
propriate for the child until the child be-
comes large enough to properly wear the
vehicle's seat belts. See ªChild restraintº
on page 107 in this Section for details.
If a child is too large for a child restraint
system, the child should sit in the rear
seat and must be restrained using the
vehicle's seat belt. According to accident
statistics, the child is safer when properly
restrained in the rear seat than in the
front seat.
If a child must sit in the front seat, the
seat belts should be worn properly. If an
accident occurs and the seat belts are not
worn properly, the force of the rapid infla-
tion of the airbag may cause death or
serious injury to the child.
