HINT:
If DTC P0441, P0446 or P0450 is output after DTC P0440, first troubleshoot DTC P0441, P0446 or P0450.
If no malfunction is detected, troubleshoot DTC P0440 next.
1 Check voltage between terminals VC and E2 of ECM connector
(See page DI−76, step 9).
NG Check and replace ECM (See page IN−30).
OK
2 Check voltage between terminals PTNK and E2 of ECM connector
(See page DI−76, step 10).
OK Check and replace ECM (See page IN−30).

3 Check for open and short in harness and connector between the vapor pressure
sensor and ECM (See page IN−30).
NG Repair or replace harness or connector.
OK
Replace the vapor pressure sensor.

(c) Turn ignition switch ON.
CHECK:
Measure voltage between terminals ISCO, ISCC of ECM con-
nector and body ground.
OK:
Voltage: 9 − 14 V
OK Go to step 5.
NG
4 Check IAC valve (See page SF−34).
NG Replace IAC valve.
OK
Check for open and short in harness and con-
nector between R/B No.6 and IAC valve, IAC
valve and ECM (See page IN−30).
5 Check operation of the IAC valve (See page SF−34).
NG Repair or replace IAC valve.

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
When the ignition switch is turned ON, battery positive voltage is applied to the coil, closing the contacts of
the EFI relay and supplying power to the terminals +B of the ECM.

1 Check voltage between terminals +B and E1 of ECM connector.
PREPARATION:
(a) Remove side trim cover (See page SF−61).
(b) Turn ignition switch ON.
CHECK:
Measure voltage between terminals +B and E1 of ECM connec-
tor.
OK:
Voltage: 9 − 14 V
OK Proceed to next circuit inspection shown on
matrix chart (See page DI−20).

2 Check for open in harness and connector between terminal E1 of ECM and body
ground (See page IN−30).
NG Repair or replace harness or connector.

3 Check EFI main relay (Making: EFI) (See page SF−39).

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1 Check PNP SW, REVERSE, 2ND and LOW signal.
When using TOYOTA hand−held tester:
PREPARATION:
(a) Connect the TOYOTA hand−held tester to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch ON and TOYOTA hand−held tes-
ter main switch ON.
CHECK:
Shift the shift lever to the P, R, N, 2 or L positions, and read the
PNPSW, REVERSE, 2ND and LOW signals on the TOYOTA
hand−held tester.
OK:

When using TOYOTA hand−held tester:
PREPARATION:
Turn the ignition switch ON.
CHECK:
Measure the voltage between terminals NSW, R, 2, L of the
ECM and body ground when the shift lever is shifted to the fol-
lowing positions.
OK:
*: The voltage will drop slightly due to lighting up of the back up
light.
OK Check an replace the ECM.

PREPARATION:
(a) Disconnect the O/D main switch connector.
(b) Check the continuity between terminals 2 and 4 of the
O/D main switch connector.
