Do not switch o"M the tire in"Oation compressor
during this phase!Let the tire in"Oation compressor run for a max-
imum of ten minutes.
The tire should then have attained a pressure
of at least 200 kPa (2.0 bar/29 psi).
If tire sealant leaks out, make sure you clean the
a"Mected area as quickly as possible. It is prefera-
ble to use clean water.
If you get tire sealant on your clothing, have it cleaned as soon as possible with perchloroethy- lene.
If, a"ser ten minutes, a tire pressure of 200 kPa
(2.0 bar/29 psi) has not been attained:
Switch o"M the tire in"Oation compressor.Unscrew the "Nlling hose from the valve of the
defective tire.
Please note that tire sealant may leak out when
you unscrew the "Nlling hose.
Drive forwards or in reverse very slowly for
approximately 33 "s (10 m).Pump up the tire again.
A"ser a maximum of ten minutes, the tire pres-
sure must be at least 200 kPa (2.0 bar/
29 psi).&WARNING Risk of accident due to the
speci"Ned tire pressure not being achieved
If the speci"Ned tire pressure is not achieved
a"ser the speci"Ned time, the tire is too badly
damaged. The tire sealant cannot repair the
tire in this instance.
The braking characteristics as well as the driv- ing characteristics may be greatly impaired.
Do not continue driving.Consult a quali"Ned specialist workshop.
If, a"ser ten minutes, a tire pressure of 200 kPa
(2.0 bar/29 psi) has been attained:
Switch o"M the tire in"Oation compressor.Unscrew the "Nlling hose from the valve of the
defective tire.&WARNING Risk of accident from driving
with sealed tires
A tire temporarily sealed with tire sealant
impairs the handling characteristics and is not suitable for higher speeds.
Adapt your driving style accordingly and
drive carefully.Do not exceed the maximum speed limit with a tire that has been repaired using
tire sealant.Do not exceed the maximum permissible
speed of 50 mph (80 km/h) for a tire sealed
with tire sealant.*NOTE Staining caused by leaking tire seal-
ant
A"ser use, excess tire sealant may leak out
from the "Nlling hose.
Therefore, place the "Nlling hose in the
plastic bag that contained the TIREFIT

pollution caused by environmentally irre-
sponsible disposal
Tire sealant contains pollutants.
Have the tire sealant bottle disposed of
professionally, e.g. at an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center.Stow the tire sealant bottle and the tire in"Oa-
tion compressor.Pull away immediately.Stop driving a"ser approximately ten minutes
and check the tire pressure using the tire
in"Oation compressor.
The tire pressure must now be at least
130 kPa (1.3 bar/19 psi).&WARNING Risk of accident due to the
speci"Ned tire pressure not being attained
If the speci"Ned tire pressure is not reached,
the tire is too badly damaged. The tire sealant
cannot repair the tire in this instance.
The braking and driving characteristics may be
greatly impaired.Do not continue driving.Consult a quali"Ned specialist workshop.
In cases such as the one mentioned above, con-
tact an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center. Alter-natively, call 1-800-FOR-MERCedes (in the USA) or 1-800-387-0100 (in Canada).
Correct the tire pressure if it is still at least
130 kPa (1.3 bar/19 psi). See the Tire and
Loading Information placard on the B!

Notes on the 12 V battery

carried out incorrectly on the battery
Work carried out incorrectly on the battery
can, for example, lead to a short circuit. This can restrict functions relevant for safety sys-
tems and impair the operating safety of your
vehicle.
You could lose control of the vehicle in the fol-
lowing situations in particular:
= When braking
= In the event of abrupt steering maneuvers
and/or when the vehicle\bs speed is not
adapted to the road conditions
In the event of a short circuit or a similar incident, contact a quali"Ned specialist
workshop immediately.Do not drive on.Always have work on the battery carried
out at a quali"Ned specialist workshop.=

For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz recommends that you use only batteries that have been
approved for your vehicle by Mercedes-Benz.
All vehicles except vehicles with a lithium-ion bat- tery&WARNING Risk of explosion due to elec-
trostatic charge
Electrostatic charge can ignite the highly
explosive gas mixture in the battery.
To discharge any electrostatic charge
that may have built up, touch the metal
vehicle body before handling the battery.
The highly "Oammable gas mixture is created while
the battery is charging and during starting assis-
tance.
&WARNING Danger of chemical burns from
the battery acid
Battery acid is caustic.
Avoid contact with the skin, eyes or
clothing.Do not lean over the battery.Do not inhale battery gases.Keep children away from the battery.Immediately rinse battery acid o"M thor-
oughly with plenty of clean water and
seek medical attention immediately.

measures when handling batteries.
Risk of explosion if the 12 V battery is
used improperly.Fire, naked "Oames and smoking are pro-
hibited when you are handling the battery. Avoid creating sparks.Electrolyte or battery acid is corrosive.
Avoid contact with the skin, eyes or cloth-
ing. Wear suitable protective clothing, in
particular gloves, an apron and a face
mask. Immediately rinse electrolyte or
acid splashes o"M with clean water. Consult
a doctor immediately.Do not place heavy objects on the surface of the battery or use the battery to sup-port a person in any way.Wear safety glasses.Keep children away.Observe this Operator\bs Manual.
Observe the following if you do not intend to use
the vehicle over an extended period of time:
= Non-plug-in hybrid: switch to standby mode
(  page 252).
= Alternatively: connect the battery to a battery
charger approved by Mercedes-Benz or con-
sult a quali"Ned specialist workshop to discon-
nect the battery.
Notes on the 48 V battery

Work carried out incorrectly on the battery
can, for example, lead to a short circuit. This

Batteries contain pollutants. It is
illegal to dispose of them with the household rubbish.

Dispose of batteries in an environ-
mentally responsible manner. Take dis-
charged batteries to a quali"Ned specialist
workshop or to a collection point for
used batteries.
If you have to disconnect the 48 V battery, con- tact a quali"Ned specialist workshop.

Notes on the high-voltage battery
&DANGER Risk of "Nre and explosion from
excessive internal pressure of the high-
voltage battery
In the event of a vehicle "Nre, "Oammable gas
can escape and ignite.
If there is an unusual smell, smoke or
burn marks, stop the charging process

Leave the danger zone immediately.
Secure the danger area at a su"Pcient
distance.Call the "Nre service.
Observe the notes on charging the high-voltage
battery (  page 230).

Notes on starting assistance and charging the 12
V battery
Vehicles with a lithium-ion battery
When charging the battery and during starting
assistance, always use the jump-start connection
point in the engine compartment.
*NOTE Damage to the battery due to over-
voltage
When charging using a battery charger without
a maximum charging voltage, the battery or the on-board electronics may be damaged.
Only use battery chargers with a maxi-
mum charging voltage of 14.8 V.All other vehicles
When charging the battery and during starting
assistance, always use the jump-start connection
point in the engine compartment.*NOTE Damage to the battery due to over-
voltage
When charging using a battery charger without
a maximum charging voltage, the battery or the on-board electronics may be damaged.
Only use battery chargers with a maxi-
mum charging voltage of 14.8 V.&WARNING Risk of explosion due to the
ignition of hydrogen gas
If there is a short circuit or sparks are created,
there is a danger of hydrogen gas igniting
when you charge the battery.
Make sure that the POSITIVE terminal of
a connected battery does not come into
contact with vehicle parts.Never place metal objects or tools on a

When connecting and disconnecting thebattery, always observe the sequence of
battery terminals described.During starting assistance, always take
care to connect only battery terminals of
identical polarity.During starting assistance, observe the sequence described for connecting and
disconnecting the jumper cables.Do not connect or disconnect the bat-
tery terminals with the engine running.&WARNING Risk of explosion due to a mix-
ture of explosive gases
A mixture of explosive gases can escape from
the battery during charging and jump starting.
Fire, open "Oames, smoking and creating
sparks must be avoided.Make sure that there is su"Pcient ventila-
tion.Do not stand over the battery.&WARNING Risk of explosion from a frozen
battery
A discharged battery may freeze at tempera-
tures slightly above or below freezing point.
During starting assistance or battery charging,
battery gas can be released.
Always allow a battery to thaw before
charging it or performing starting assis-
tance.
If the indicator/warning lamps on the instrument cluster do not light up at low temperatures, it is
very likely that the discharged battery has frozen.
In this case, you may neither jump-start the vehi-
cle nor charge the battery.
The service life of a battery that has been thawedmay be dramatically shortened. The starting char-
acteristics may be impaired, especially at low
temperatures.
It is recommended that you have a thawed battery checked at a quali"Ned specialist workshop.
Plug-in hybrid
If your vehicle has been started with starting
assistance, it may not be possible to use the elec- tric drive system for approximately 30 minutes.
Starting assistance is not considered to be a nor- mal operating condition.
All vehicles*NOTE Damage caused by numerous or
extended attempts to start the engine
Numerous or extended attempts to start the
engine may damage the catalytic converter
due to non-combusted fuel.
Avoid numerous and extended attempts
to start the engine.
Observe the following points during starting assis-
tance and when charging the battery:
= Use only undamaged jumper cable / charging
cables with a su"Pcient cross-section and
insulated terminal clamps.
= Non-insulated parts of the terminal clamps
must not come into contact with other metal

parts while the jumper cable / charging cable
is connected to the battery/jump-start con-
nection point.
= The jumper cable / charging cable must not
come into contact with any parts that may move when the engine is running.
= Always make sure that neither you nor the bat-
tery is electrostatically charged.
= Keep away from "Nre and naked "Oames.
= Do not lean over the battery.
Observe the additional following points when
charging the battery:
= Use only battery chargers tested and
approved for Mercedes-Benz.
= Read the battery charger\bs operating instruc-
tions before charging the battery.
Observe the additional following points during
starting assistance:
= Starting assistance may be provided only
using vehicles, batteries or other jump start
devices with a nominal voltage of 12 V.
= The vehicles must not touch.=Vehicles with gasoline engines: jump-start the
vehicle only when the engine and exhaust sys- tem are cold.
