Adaptive functions MULTIBEAM LED and DIGITALLIGHT

q Intelligent Light System function
With this system, the headlamps adapt to the driv- ing and weather situation. It also provides exten-ded functions for improved illumination of theroad.
\bThe availability of the functions is dependenton the country.
The system comprises the following functions:
= Active headlamps (  page 167)
= Cornering light (  page 167)
= Highway mode (  page 168)
= Enhanced fog light function (  page 168)
= Bad weather light (  page 168)
= City lighting (  page 168)
= Topographical compensation (vehicles with
DIGITAL LIGHT) (  page 168)
The system is active only when it is dark.

q Active headlamps function
=
The headlamps follow the steering move-
ments.
= Relevant areas are better illuminated during a
journey.
The functions are active when the low beam is
switched on.
Depending on the vehicle\bs equipment, the course of the lane in which you are driving will also beevaluated and the active headlamps function will
adjust the light in advance.

q Cornering light function
The cornering light improves the illumination of
the road over a wide angle in the turning direc-
tion, enabling better visibility on tight bends, for
example. The cornering light will be activated only when low beam is switched on.
The function will be active in the following cases:
= At speeds below 25 mph (40 km/h) when the
turn signal light is switched on or the steeringwheel is turned
= At speeds between 25 mph (40 km/h) and
43 mph (70 km/h) and when the steering
wheel is turned

Tra"Pc circle and intersection function: the corner-
ing light will be activated on both sides based on an evaluation of the vehicle\bs current navigation
position. It will remain active until a"ser the vehicle
has le"s the tra"Pc circle or intersection.

q Highway mode function (Canada)
Highway mode increases the range and bright-
ness of the cone of light, enabling better visibility.
The function will be active if a highway journey is
detected by means of:
= the vehicle\bs speed
= the multifunction camera
= the navigation system
The function is not active in the following cases:
= at speeds below 50 mph (80 km/h)

q Enhanced fog light function (Canada)
The enhanced fog light function reduces re"Oective
glare and improves the illumination of the edge of
the road.
The function is automatically activated under the following conditions:
= At speeds below 43 mph (70 km/h) and when
the rear fog light is switched on.
The function is automatically deactivated underthe following conditions:
= When speeds greater than 62 mph
(100 km/h) are reached.
= When the rear fog light is switched o"M.

q Function of the bad weather light (Canada)
The bad weather light reduces re"Oections in rainy
conditions by dimming individual LEDs in the headlamps. The driver and other road users aredazzled less as a result.

q The city lighting function (Canada)
City lighting improves the illumination of roadsides in urban areas using a broad distribution of light.
The function will be active in the following cases:
= At low speeds
= In illuminated parts of urban areas

q Function of the topographical compensation
Based on available map data, the lighting system
responds pre-emptively to di"Merent road heights.
This means that the headlamp range remains vir-
tually constant when you are driving on uphill or
downhill gradients.168Light and visibility

\bOnly vehicles with a multimedia system withnavigation have this function.

q Assistance functions of DIGITAL LIGHT
DIGITAL LIGHT visually expands on the driver assistance systems by projecting the assistant
displays in front of the vehicle while it is in
motion. DIGITAL LIGHT can therefore help the
driver in critical situations.
\bThe availability of the functions is dependent on the country.
The system will be active in the following cases:
= The light switch is in the X position.
= High beam is switched on.
\bIf you activate the head-up display with aug-
mented reality, the projections can be deacti-vated depending on the situation.\bDepending on the country in which you arecurrently driving, certain functions may be
disabled due to di"Merent legal requirements,
even if they are enabled in the multimedia
system. When you cross a border, the vehicle
will automatically adapt to the applicable requirements.Spotlight
The spotlight function runs in the background and
"Oashes the headlamps in four short bursts at per-
sons detected within the lane markings. You will be made aware of the position of oncomingpedestrians by a projected symbol.
The function will be active in the following circum-
stances:
= You are driving outside illuminated areas.
= The system detects a lane marking.
Notes
If Tra"Pc Sign Assist detects a roadworks zone,
the system will provide support as follows:
= A corresponding symbol will be projected onto
the road when you enter a roadworks zone.

Activating or deactivating enhanced assistance
functions
\bThe availability of the functions is dependent on the country.Select Supporting Projections .Activate or deactivate the desired projection.Switch Projection for locator lighting/vehicle
stop on or o"M.
If the locator lighting or the exterior switch-o"M
delay time is activated, a high-resolution greet-
ing or farewell scene will be played back for a
short period of time when the vehicle is
opened or locked. You can choose between
the Digital Rain and Star Wave sequences.\bMore information on locator lighting

qAdaptive Highbeam Assist function
&WARNING Risk of accident despite Adap-
tive Highbeam Assist
Adaptive Highbeam Assist does not react to:
= Road users without lights, e.g. pedestrians
= Road users with poor lighting, e.g. cyclists
= Road users whose lighting is obstructed,
e.g. by a barrier
On very rare occasions, Adaptive Highbeam
Assist may fail to recognize other road users with their own lighting, or may recognize them
too late.
In these, or in similar situations, the automatic
high beam will not be deactivated or will be
activated despite the presence of other road
users.Always observe the road and tra"Pc con-
ditions carefully and switch o"M the high
beam in good time.Adaptive Highbeam Assist cannot take into
account road, weather or tra"Pc conditions.
Detection may be restricted in the following
cases:
= In poor visibility, e.g. fog, heavy rain or snow
= if there is dirt on the sensors or the sensors
are obscured
Adaptive Highbeam Assist is only an aid. You are
responsible for adjusting the vehicle\bs lighting to the prevailing light, visibility and tra"Pc conditions.170Light and visibility

Adaptive Highbeam Assist automatically switches
between the following types of light:
= Low-beam headlamps
= High beam
At speeds greater than 19 mph (30 km/h): = If no other road users are detected, high beam
will switch on automatically.
The high beam will switch o"M automatically in the
following cases:
= At speeds below 16 mph (25 km/h)
= If other road users are detected
= If street lighting is su"Pcient\bThe system\bs optical sensor is located behind
the windshield near the overhead control
panel.

q Switching Adaptive Highbeam Assist on/o"M
Switching on
Turn the light switch to the X position.Switch on high beam using the combination
switch.
If Adaptive Highbeam Assist is activated, the

Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus automatically
switches between the following types of light:
= Low-beam headlamps
= Partial high beam
= High beam
= ULTRA RANGE Highbeam (only vehicles with
DIGITAL LIGHT)
ULTRA RANGE Highbeam increases the bright-
ness of the cone of light to the legally permitted
maximum.
Partial high beam does not include other road users in the high beam area. It does not dazzle
them but enables full high-beam illumination for
the driver apart from the excluded vehicles. Highly
re"Oective signs are also illuminated with reduced
brightness.
At speeds below 16 mph (25 km/h) or when
there is su"Pcient street lighting:
= Partial high beam and high beam will be
switched o"M automatically.
At speeds greater than 19 mph (30 km/h):
= If no other road users are detected, high beam
will switch on automatically.
= If other road users are detected, partial high
beam will switch on automatically.
at speeds below 25 mph (40 km/h): = The ULTRA RANGE Highbeam will switch o"M

At speeds above 31 mph (50 km/h):
= If no other road users are detected, the road is
straight and it is not raining heavily, the ULTRA
RANGE Highbeam will be switched on auto-
matically.
= If other road users are detected, partial high
beam will switch on automatically.
= If highly re"Oective signs are detected, ULTRA
RANGE Highbeam will be switched o"M auto-
matically.\bThe system\bs optical sensor is located behind the windshield near the overhead control
panel.

Turn the light switch to the X position.Switch on high beam using the combination
switch.
If Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus is activated, the

The reading lamp, the interior lighting in the grab handle and the dome lamp on the
respective side of the vehicle will light up.To switch reading lamps o"M: press button 1
once or twice.
When you press it once, the interior lighting in
the grab handle and the dome lamp on the
respective side of the vehicle will go out.
When you press it twice, the reading lamp on
the respective side of the vehicle will go out.To switch the rear interior lighting on/o"M:
press button 2.
The reading lamps, the interior lighting in the
grab handle and the dome lamps on both
sides of the vehicle will light up or go out.
