TRAFFIC ALERT SENSORS
The sensors are behind the rear fasciapanel.
Note:Keep the sensors free from snow, iceand large accumulations of dirt.
Note:Do not cover the sensors with bumperstickers, repair compound or other objects.
Note:Bike and cargo racks could causefalse alerts due to obstruction of the sensor. We recommend switching the feature offwhen using a bike or cargo rack.
Note:Blocked sensors may affect systemaccuracy.
If something is blocking the sensors, amessage may appear in the informationdisplay when you shift into reverse (R).
CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT
INDICATORS
When the cross traffic alertdetects an approaching vehicle,a tone sounds, a warning lampilluminates in the relevant exterior mirrorand arrows appear in the informationdisplay to show which side the vehicle isapproaching from.
If the system malfunctions, a warning lampilluminates in the instrument cluster anda message appears in the instrumentcluster display. Have your vehicle checkedas soon as possible.
Note:If arrows do not display, a messageappears in the instrument cluster display.

WHAT IS PRE-COLLISION
ASSIST
Pre-collision assist detects and warns ofapproaching hazards in the roadway. Ifyour vehicle is rapidly approaching anotherstationary vehicle, a vehicle traveling in thesame direction as yours, or a pedestrianwithin your driving path, the systemprovides multiple levels of assistance tohelp avoid a collision.
HOW DOES PRE-COLLISION
ASSIST WORK
Pre-Collision Assist with AutomaticEmergency Braking
The system warns the driver of potentialhazards by providing three levels ofassistance.
If your vehicle is rapidly approachingpotential hazards, the system provides thefollowing levels of functionality:
1.Alert.
2.Brake Support.
3.Automatic Emergency Braking.
Alert: When active, a flashingvisual warning appears and anaudible warning tone sounds.
Brake Support: The system is designedto help reduce the impact speed bypreparing the brakes for rapid braking. Thesystem does not automatically apply thebrakes. If you press the brake pedal, thesystem could apply additional braking upto maximum braking force, even if youlightly press the brake pedal.
Automatic Emergency Braking: Thismay activate if the system determines thata collision is imminent.
Note:If you perceive the pre-collision assistalerts as being too frequent or disturbing, then you can reduce the alert sensitivity.Setting the low sensitivity would result infewer and later warnings of a potentialforward collision. The manufacturerrecommends using the high sensitivitysetting where possible.
Note:Automatic emergency brakingperformance is not affected by thesensitivity setting.
Each system has various levels ofdetection capabilities. See Pre-CollisionAssist Limitations (page 248).
PRE-COLLISION ASSIST

WARNING: The system cannothelp prevent all crashes. Do not rely onthis system to replace driver judgmentand the need to maintain a safe distanceand speed.
WARNING: System performancecould be reduced in situations where thevehicle camera has limited detectioncapability. These situations include butare not limited to direct or low sunlight, vehicles at night without tail lights, unconventional vehicle types, andpedestrians and cyclists with complex, partially obscured backgrounds. Failureto take care may result in the loss ofcontrol of your vehicle, personal injury ordeath.
PRE-COLLISION ASSIST
LIMITATIONS
Pre-collision assist depends on thedetection ability of its camera and sensors.Any obstructions or damage to these areascan limit detection or prevent the systemfrom functioning. See Locating thePre-Collision Assist Sensors (page 249).
The system is active at 3 mph (5 km/h)and above.
Note:Brake support and automaticemergency braking are active at speeds upto 75 mph (120 km/h). If your vehicle has aradar sensor included with adaptive cruisecontrol, then brake support and automaticemergency braking are active up to themaximum speed of the vehicle.
Pedestrian Detection Limitations
Pedestrian detection is active at speedsup to 50 mph (80 km/h).
Pedestrian detection operates optimallywhen detected hazards are clearlyidentifiable. System performance mayreduce in situations where pedestrians arerunning, partly obscured, have a complexbackground, or cannot be distinguishedfrom a group.
SWITCHING PRE-COLLISION
ASSIST ON AND OFF
You cannot switch the system off.

LOCATING THE PRE-
COLLISION ASSIST SENSORS
Camera.1.
Radar sensor (if equipped).2.
If a message regarding a blocked sensoror camera appears in the informationdisplay, something is obstructing the radarsignals or camera images. The radar sensoris behind the fascia cover in the center ofthe lower grille. With a blocked sensor orcamera, the system may not function, orperformance may reduce. SeePre-Collision Assist – InformationMessages (page 253).
Note:Proper system operation requires aclear view of the road by the camera. Repairany windshield damage in the area of thecamera's field of view.
Note:If something hits the front end of yourvehicle or damage occurs and your vehiclehas a radar sensor, the radar sensing zonecould change. This could cause missed orfalse vehicle detections. Have your vehicleserviced to have the radar checked forproper coverage and operation.
Note:If your vehicle detects excessive heatat the camera or a potential misalignmentcondition, a message could display in theinformation display indicating temporarysensor unavailability. When operationalconditions are correct, the messagedeactivates. For example, when the ambienttemperature around the sensor decreasesor the sensor recalibrates successfully.

EVASIVE STEERING ASSIST (IF
EQUIPPED)
WHAT IS EVASIVE STEERINGASSIST
If your vehicle is rapidly approaching a roaduser, evasive steering assist helps you steeraround the road user.
After you turn the steering wheel in anattempt to avoid a crash with the roaduser, the system applies additional steeringtorque to help you steer around the roaduser. After you pass the road user, thesystem applies steering torque when youturn the steering wheel to steer back intothe lane. The system deactivates after youfully pass the road user.
Note:Road users are defined as anotherstationary vehicle in the same lane, a vehicletraveling in the same lane in the samedirection as yours, a cyclist traveling in thesame direction as yours or a pedestrianwithin your driving path. See Pre-CollisionAssist Precautions (page 247).
EVASIVE STEERING ASSISTLIMITATIONS
Evasive steering assist only activates whenall the following occur:
•Automatic emergency braking andevasive steering assist are on.
•The system detects a road user aheadand starts to apply the brakes.
•You significantly turn the steeringwheel to steer around a road user.
Note:Evasive steering assist does notautomatically steer around a road user. Ifyou do not turn the steering wheel, evasivesteering assist does not activate.
Note:Evasive steering assist does notactivate if the distance to the road userahead is too small and the system cannotavoid a crash.
Note:Evasive steering does not activatewith cyclists or pedestrians.
