ter a malfunction occurs, you must retract and
lo ck the electrical step 1 manually in order to
continue your journey (/ page 58). Before pas‐
sen gers exitth eve hicle, inform them that electri‐
cal step 1 may be missing. Re
leasing the electrical step in an emer gency
(manual retraction) If
th e electrical step does not automatically
re tract, you must manually retract thestep and
lock it in order tocontinue driving. #

Slide thestep into its housing.

must puncture a foil with the spring cotters. #

Yo u could lose control of theve hicle in the

R ifyo u adjust the driver's seat, the head

while theve hicle is in motion
R ifyo ufast enyour seat belt while theve hi‐
cle is in motion #
Before starting the engine: adjust the
driver's seat, the head restra int, the
st eering wheel or the mir ror and fasten
yo ur seat belt. Comply with
thefo llowing when adjusting steer‐
ing wheel 3, safety belt 2and driver's seat 1:
R Sit as faraw ay as possible from the driver's
airbag.
R Sit in an upright position.
R Your thighs are slight lysuppor tedby the seat
cushion.
R Your legs are not fully extended and you can
easily fully press on the pedals.
R The back of your head is suppo rted at eye
le ve lby the middle part of the head restra int.
R You can reach thesteering wheel with your
arms in a slightly bent position.
R You can mo veyour legs freel y.
R You can easily see all displ ays on the instru‐
ment displa y. R
You ha vea good overview of the traf fic situa‐
tion.
R Your saf ety belt fits securely around your
body and runs across the middle of your
shoulder, your pelvic area and groin. Seats

Tilt th e bench seat forw ards without engaging
it. #
Pull the bench seat backwards again using
re lease handle 2. #
Tilt th e bench seat backwards slightly and
pull it out of the mounting shells. #
Toremo veorstore the bench seat, place it
next tothe mounting shells and roll it towa rds
th ere ar-end doors.

Lift the bench seat out from the side tostore
it.

Toattach the co vers of the mounting
shells: hold cover3 such that retaining lug
1 is pointing towa rdsre ar seat anchorage

Insert co ver3 into rear seat anchorage 2
by pushing it down wards at an angle and then
clip it tothe mounting shell. #
Afterre moving there ar ben chseat, ensure
th at there ar ben chseat can stand firm ly and
not tip over when in storage.
Please no tethat the me tallic seat support in the
ve hicle floor will heat up during a journey if the
re ar seating has been remo ved.
Installing there ar ben chseat
Secure engagement of there ar ben chseat is
guaranteed only if youke ep the seat anchorages
clean and free of objects.
% In
vehicles regis tere d as passenger vehicles,
obser vethe maximum permitted number of
seats. #
Remo vethe co vers of the mounting shells as
described under "Removing there ar ben ch
seat". #
Ensure that there are no objects in the seat
anchorages and mounting shells. #
Position the bench seat behind the ins talla‐
tion position. #
Hold the bench seat bythe grab handles and
tilt it backwards. #
Rollth e bench seat forw ards on the le vel
plastic car riers. #
Ensure that there ar legs of the bench seat
are engaged. #
Tilt th e bench seat forw ards firm lyuntil the
loc kson the front legs of the bench seat
engage audibly.
The loc kson the front legs of the bench seat
will now be loc ked and there d indicator tabs
on the housing of release handle 1should
no longer be visible.
% If
th ere d indicator tabs on there lease handle
housing are visible, the bench seat is not cor‐
re ctly engaged.
If th e bench seat is not cor rectly engaged, you
can rectify this situation as follo ws: #
Unlock the bench seat again and tilt it for‐
wa rdsfirm ly until the loc kson the bench seat
front legs engage audibly. #
Attach the co vers of the mounting shells as
described under "Removing there ar ben ch

Position of motion de tector
If th eve hicle is equipped with a motion de tector,
th e cargo compartment lighting is also activated
via the motion de tector.
If th e motion de tector de tects mo vement in the
cargo compa rtment while theve hicle is station‐
ar y, the cargo compartment lighting will switch
on for appro ximately two minu tes.
The cargo compartment lighting can be switched
on via the motion de tector if:
R The vehicle is stationar y,the parking brake is
applied and you are not depressing the brake
pedal.
R Vehicles with automatic transmission: the
selector le ver is in position 005Dand you are
not depressing the brake pedal.
R The vehicle has not been loc ked from the out‐
side using thekey.
If no change totheve hicle, such as a door open‐
ing, is de tected over se veral hours, the motion
de tector will au tomatically switch off. This pre‐
ve nts the battery from discharging. Switching

Switch the switch-off delay time on or off.
If th e function is active, the interior lighting
will remain lit up for a short time when the
seat belt buckle is released. Changing bulbs

WARNING Risk of bu rns from hot com‐
ponent parts whilst replacing a bulb
Bulbs, lamps and plug connectors can
become very hot during operation.
When replacing a bulb, you could burn your‐
self on these component parts. #
Allow the component parts tocool
down before replacing the bulbs. When
you are replacing the bulb, obser vethefo l‐
lowing:
R Do not use any bulb that has been dropped or
has scratches on its glass sur face. Otherwise,
th e bulb may explode.
R The bulb may explode if it is hot or if you
to uch, drop or sc ratch it.
R Stains on theglass sur face reduce the
service life of the bulb. Do not touch theglass
sur face wi thyour bare hands. If necessar y,
clean theglass sur face wi thalcohol or spirits
in a cold state and wipe it down with a lint-
free clo th.
R Protect bulbs from humidity and do not bring
th em into contact with liquids.
Alw ays ensure the bulbs are firm ly secu red.
If yo ur vehicle is equipped with LED lamps, you
can check this as follo ws :th e light cone will mo ve
from topto bottom and back again when the
ve hicle starts. Forth is to wo rk,th e low beam
needs tohave been switched on before theve hi‐
cle is star ted.
Bulbs and lamps are a major part of vehicle
saf ety. Therefore, ensure that they are alw ays
wo rking. Ha vethe headlamp setting checkedre g‐
ularly.
R Before changing the bulbs, switch off the
ve hicle's lighting sy stem. This will pr event a
sho rtcircuit.
R Use bulbs only in closed lights that ha vebeen
designed forth em.
R Use only spare bulbs of the same type and
with the cor rect voltage.
If th e new bulb also does not light up, consult a
qu alified specialist workshop. 90

depressing the accelera tor pedal be yond the
pressure point (kickdown). This also applies if
the engine or parts of the driv‐
et ra in ha vebeen replaced.

and tires only pr ovide optimal braking and
bonding af ter se veral hundred kilom eters.
Un tilthen, compensate forth ere duced brak‐
ing ef fect by applying greater pressure tothe
