When an obstacle is de
tected behind your vehicle with the selec-
tor lever in “R” (REVERSE), if the accelerator pedal is depressed too aggressively, the engine out
put will be suppressed for up to
approximately 5 seconds.

 Under certain circumstances, the system may not operate or may not detect cor-rectly an object in
front or behind the
vehicle. When your ve
hicle is approaching
the object too closely, take all necessary actions to avoid a collis
ion, such as brak-
ing and steering, regar
dless of whether the
Ultrasonic misaccel
eration Mitigation
System is activated or not.  The Ultrasonic misacc
eleration Mitigation
System is not designed to detect a pedes-trian or bicycle. When propulsion power is immediately required while the Ultrasonic misaccelera- tion Mitigation System is activated, take one of the following actions. • Release the foot from the acceleratorpedal and lightly de
press the pedal again.
• Press and hold the Forward collision mit- igation system (FCM) and Ultrasonicmisacceleration Mitigation System ON/OFF switch for three seconds or more to turn off the Ultrasonic misaccel-eration Mitigation System.• Keep depressing the accelerator pedalfor 5 seconds or more.• Fully depress and release the acceleratorpedal three times or more in quick suc- cession.
 Never attempt to test the Ultrasonic misacceleration Mitigation System. Doing so could result in an accident.WA R N I N G
 While the Active Stability Control system (ASC) is turned off
by operating the ASC
OFF switch, the Ultrasonic misaccelera-tion Mitigation System does not operate. Refer to “ASC OF
F switch” on page
5-101. The Ultrasonic misacc
eleration Mitigation
System may not operate in certain situa-tions. Some of these include:• The sensors or surr
oundings have been
wiped by hand.• The stickers or ac
cessories have been
attached to the sens
ors or surroundings.
• When the ambient temperature is rap- idly changing. For e
xample, immediately
after the vehicle has exited from a tunnel or a garage.

• When a vehicle ahea
d or behind is a
truck loaded with fr

rearward from the cargo bed.• If the height of an object is low. • If the ground clearance of an object is extremely high.• When an object is covered by snow.• When the shape of an object is rounded, such as a pole.• When ultrasonic waves are absorbed byan object, such as snow or a spongy material.• When an obstacle
is a chain fence.
• When an object is moving.• If an aftermarket el
ectrical device, such
as a radio antenna, is
installed near the
sensor
 The Ultrasonic misacc
eleration Mitigation
System operation may be cancelled when the system recognizes evasive actions by the driver to avoid a co
llision or
when the
obstacle moves out of
the detection range
of the sensor. In certain situations,
though there is little
or no risk of a col
lision, the Ultrasonic
misacceleration Mitigation System mayactivate. Examples include:• When a vehicle ahea
d or an oncoming
vehicle is splashing wa
ter, snow or dirt.
• When a bump or step
is ahead of the
vehicle.WA R N I N G
• When a parking gate or crossing gate isnot fully opened.• When the vehicle is in smoke, fog or steam.• When attempting to park the vehiclevery close to another
vehicle or
an object.
• When the vehicle is exiting from parallel parking.• When the system detects ultrasonicnoise, such as the noise from motorcycle engines, brakes, radios, pouring rain,splashing water, tire chains or a ultra- sonic wave from a sonar sensor on another vehicle.• If an aftermarket el
ectrical device, such
as a radio antenna, is
installed near the
sensor.• When the vehicle is
on a gravel road.
• When the vehicle is in a tall grass area.The Ultrasonic misacc
eleration Mitigation
System should be tuned off if any of fol- lowing situations occur:• When attempting to get out of a roadgroove or a mud.• When using an automatic car wash.• When the vehicle is entering or exiting a car elevator.• When your vehicle is on a chassis dyna-mometer or free rollers.• When your vehicle is
towed or
your vehi-
cle tows another vehicle.• When your vehicle is
carried on a truck.

• When driving on a circuit.• When the tires are not properly inflated.• When the ultrasonic sensor and its sur- rounding area is damaged or deformed.CAUTION To maintain proper perf

on Mitigation System,
follow the instructions below.• Do not hit or apply load to the sensors.• Wipe the sensors and surrounding areas ifan object, such as dirt, adheres.• Do not cover the sensors.• Do not modify the suspension of your vehi- cle.
 If the bumper has experienced an impact, the sensor area may have
been damaged and the
Ultrasonic misacceleration Mitigation Sys-tem may not function
properly. Have the
vehicle inspected at an
authorized Mitsubishi

Every time the operation mode is turned to “ON”, the Ultrasonic misacceleration Mitiga-tion System will automatically be turned on. In addition, on vehicles equipped with the Forward Collision Mitigation System (FCM),the Ultrasonic misacceleration Mitigation System and the FCM are simultaneously turned off and on by operating the FCM andUltrasonic misaccelerat

Example: When the front and/or rear sensors are temporarily not available This display will appear if more than one sen- sor is temporarily not available for some rea- son such as an environmental condition. This can typically occur when
the sensor is heated.
When the radar sensor performance returns, the message will disappear and the system will resume operation.If the message is continuously displayed, contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.

 The ultrasonic sensors
do not detect objects
in areas directly below or very close to thebumpers. If the height of
an object is lower
than the sensors, the sensors may not con- tinue detecting it wh

can initially detect it.

When a vehicle in the next lane is traveling at same speed or faster in the detection areas,the Blind Spot Warning light in the corre- sponding outside rearview
mirror will illumi-
nate. If the turn signal lever is operated to theside where the Blind Spot Warning light is illuminated, the Blind
Spot Warning light will
blink and the system will beep three times toalert the driver. Depending on the speed of your vehicle, the Blind Spot Warning system will detect up to approximately 230 feet (70 m) from your vehicle.

The BSW uses 2 sensors (A) located inside the rear bumper. The detection areas are
shown as illustrated.

Detection areas

WA R N I N G In certain situations, the BSW may not detect a vehicle in the detection areas or the detection may be delayed. Some ofthese include;• When a small motorcycle or a bicycle isbehind your vehicle.• When a vehicle is
traveling alongside of
your vehicle at nearly
the same speed for
prolonged periods of time.

When the BSW switch is pressed while the operation mode is ON, the BSW indicator light in the instrument cluster comes on andthe BSW becomes in stand by state. When the BSW switch is pressed again, the BSW indi- cator light in the instrument cluster goes offand the BSW turns off. Indicator light If you turn the BSW ON/OFF, the Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) also turns ON/OFF atthe same time.
• When the heights of the next lane and your lane are different.• Immediately after the BSW has been turned on.• Immediately after the engine switch isturned on.• Under adverse weather conditions, suchas rain, snow, strong winds, snow or sand storm.• When your vehicle becomes too close toanother vehicle.• While multiple ve
hicle are overtaking
your vehicle.• When driving near a pot hole and tram-line.• When a surroundin
g vehicle or an
oncoming vehicle is splashing water,snow or dirt.• When driving on a
curve including the
beginning and the end of the curve.• When driving on a r
oad with alternating

When the BSW indicator light in the instru- ment cluster is on, if
a vehicle is approaching
your vehicle in the detection area, the Blind Spot Warning light in
the outside rearview
mirror illuminates.If the turn signal lever is operated to the side where the Blind Spot Wa
rning light is illumi-
nated, the Blind Spot Wa
rning light will blink
and the system will beep three times to alert the driver.

If a problem occurs with the system, a visualwarning specific to the type of the problem isgiven together with an audible alarm. The warnings are combined with the Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system.
NOTE
 When the operation mode is set to OFF, the selected condition just before setting to OFFis retained. However, the retained BSW stateis cleared when the battery is removed, and the BSW turns ON when the operation mode is set to ON at next time.  The BSW operates when all of the following conditions are met. • The operation mode
is put in ON.
• The selector lever is
in positions other than

the bumper surface around the sensor. When the warning display does not disappear after having cleaned the bumper surfacearound the sensor, contact an authorized Mit- subishi Motors dealer.
