Safe driving habits
Please remember -safe ty first!
The individua l safety features of your vehicle can
work together as a system to help protect you
and your passengers in a wide range of accidents.
These features cannot work as a system if they
are not always correctly adjusted and correctly
used .
This chapter contains important informat ion,
tips, instruct ions and warn ings that you need to
read and observe for your own safety, the safety
of your passengers and others . We have summar­
ized here what you need to know about safety
be lts , a ir bags, child restra ints as well as child
safety. Yo ur sa fe ty is for us
priority number 1 . Al­
ways observe the information and wa rnings in
this section - for your own safety as well as that
of your passengers.
The informa tion in this section applies to all
model ve rsions of your vehicle . Some of the fea­
tures described in th is sections may be standard
equipment on some models, or may be optional
equ ipment on others. If you are not sure, ask
your author ized Audi dealer.
A WARNING
- Always make sure that you follow the in­
structio ns and heed the WARNINGS in th is
manual. It is in your inte rest and i n the in­
te res t of your passengers .
- Always keep all of the Owner 's L ite rature
ma nuals in yo ur Audi when you lend o r sell
yo ur vehicle so tha t t his importa nt info rm a­
t ion w ill always be avail able to the dr iver

· Important things to do before driving
Safety is everybody 's job! Vehicle and occupant
safety always depends on the informed and care­
ful driver .
For your safety and the safety of your passen­
gers,
before d riv ing always:
.. Make sure that a ll lights and signals are operat­
ing correctly .
.. Make sure tha t the tire pressure is correct .
.. Make sure that all windows are clean and afford
good vis ibility to the outs ide .

What impairs driving safety?
Safe driving is directly related to the condition of
the vehicle, the driver as well as the driver's abili­
ty to concentrate on the road without being dis­
tracted.
The driver is responsible for the safety of the ve­hicle and a ll of its occupants. If your ability to
drive is impa ired, safety risks for everybody in the
vehicle increase and you a lso become a hazard to
everyone else on the road ¢
,&.. Therefore:
.. Do not let yourse lf be distracted by passenge rs
or by using a cellular telephone .
.. NEVER drive when your driving ability is im­
pa ired (by med ications, alcohol, drugs, etc .) .
.. Observe all traffic laws, r ules of the road and
speed lim its and plain common sense . .,.

Airbag syste m
Make sure that the PASSENGER AIR BAG
OFF
11;; li ght comes on and stays on all t he
t ime whenever the ignition is switched on.
A WARNING
- If the PA SSEN GER AIR BAG OFF 11;; light
does not go out when an adult is si tting on
the front passe nger seat a fter ta king the
steps described above, make sure the adult is p roperly seated and restrained at one of
the rear seating positions.
- Have the airbag system inspected by your
authorized Aud i dealer before transporting
anyone on the front passenger seat.
@ Tips
If the capacitive passenger detection system
determines that the front passenger seat is
empty, the frontal airbag on the passenge r
side w ill be tu rned off, and the
PASSENGER
AIR BAG OFF
11;; light will stay on.

Repair , care and disposal of the airbags
Parts of the a irbag system are installed at many
different places on your Audi. Installing, remov­ ing, servic ing or repa iring a part in an area of the
ve hicle can damage a part of an airbag system
and prevent that system from working properly
i n a collision .
There are some important things you have to
know to make sure that the effectiveness of the
system w ill not be impaired and that discarded
components do not cause injury or pollute the
env ironment.
A WARNING
Improper care, serv icing and repai r proce­
dures can increase the r is k of personal injury
and death by preventing an airbag from de­
ploying when needed or dep loying an airbag
unexpectedly:
-
- Never cover, obstruct, or change the stee r­
ing wheel horn pad or airbag cover or the in­
strument pane l or modify them in any way.

- Never attach any objects s uch as c upholders
or telephone mountings to the surfaces cov­
ering the a irbag un its.
- For cleaning the horn pad or instrument
panel, use only a soft, dry cloth or one mois­
tened w ith plain water. Solvents or cleaners
could damage the airbag cover or change
the st iffness or strength of the material so
that the airbag canno t deploy and p rotect
properly.
- Never repair, adjust , or change any parts of
the airbag system.
- All work on the steering wheel, inst rument
panel, front seats or e lectr ica l system ( in­
cluding the installation of a udio eq uipment,
cellular telephones and C B radios, etc.)
m ust be perfo rmed by a qualified techn ician
who has the training and specia l equipment
necessary.
- For any work on the airbag system, we strong ly recommend that you see your au­
thorized A udi dealer or qualified workshop.
- Never modify the front b umper or parts of
the vehicle body.
- Always make sure that the side a irbag can
inflate w ithout interference:
- Never install seat covers or replacement
upholstery over the front seatbacks that
have not been specifically approved by
A udi.
- Never use additional seat c ushions that
cover the areas where the side airbags in­
flate.
- Damage to the orig inal seat cove rs or to
the seam in the area of the s ide airbag
module mus t always be repaired immedi­
ate ly by an autho riz ed Au di dealer.
- The a irbag system can deploy on ly once. Af­
ter an airbag h as been deployed, i t m ust be
repla ced with new replacement parts de­
signed and approved espec ia lly for your
Audi model version . Replacement of com­
plete airbag systems or airbag components
must be perfo rmed by qua lified workshops
only. Make su re that any airbag service ac­
tion is entered in your A udi Warranty

Child safet y
one o f the rear seating posit ions . If in exception ­
al circumstances you must use it on the front passenger seat, carefully read all of the informa­
tion on child safety and Advanced Airbags and heed a ll of the app licab le WARNINGS. Make cer­
tain that the child and child restraint are correct­ ly recogn ized by the capacit ive passenger detec­
tion system i n the front passenge r seat, that the
fron t passenger airbag is turned off, and that the
a irbag status is always cor rectly sig naled by the
PASSENGER AIR BA G OFF ~; light.
M any types and models of child rest raints have
been available ove r the yea rs , new models are in­
troduced regularly incorporat ing new and im­
p roved designs and older mode ls are taken o ut of
product ion . Chi ld restraints a re not standardized .
Ch ild rest raints of the same type typica lly have
d ifferent weights and s izes and d ifferent "foot­
prints", the s ize and shape of the bottom of the
chi ld restraint that s its on the seat, when they
are installed on a vehicle seat . These differences
make it virtually impossible to ce rtify compliance
with the requ irements fo r advanced airbags with
each and eve ry ch ild rest raint that has ever been
sold in the past or will be sold ove r the co urse of
the useful life of your vehicle.
F or this reason, the Un ited States National High­
way Traffi c Safety Administ ration has p ublished a
lis t of specific type, makes and models of child
restraints that must be used to cert ify comp li­
ance of the Advanced Airbag System in your vehi­
cle with the suppression requirements of Federal
Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208. These child
restraints are:

on tires or wheels performed by
an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility .
These facilities have the proper knowledge and are equipped with
the required tools and replace­
ment parts.
.,. New tires do not yet have the
optimum gripping properties. Drive carefully and at moderate
speeds for the first 350 miles (500 km) with new tires .
.,. Use tires of the same construc­
tion, size (rolling circumference)
and as close to the same tread pattern as poss ible on all four
wheels .

At least replace both tires on the
same axle at the same time.

vehicle with a tire/rim combina ­
tion that is different from what
was installed at the factory, con­
sult with an authorized Audi
dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility before making a pur­
chase ¢&, .
If the spare t ire is different from
the regular tires installed on the
vehicle -for example, if winter
tires or wide tires are installed -
then only use the spare tire tem­
porarily in case of emergency and
drive carefully while it is in use. It
should be replaced with a regular
tire as soon as possible.
On
all wheel drive vehicles, all
four wheels must be equipped
with tires that are the same brand and have the same construction
and tread pattern so tha t the
drive system is not damaged by .,.

the tire t o burst.
- Always adapt yo ur drivi ng to the road and
traff ic conditions. Drive carefully and red uce
your speed on icy or slippery roads. Even
winter tires can lose traction on black ice.
@ For the sake of the environment
Reinstall summer ti res at the appropriate
time, because they provide better handling
when roads are free of snow and ice. Summer
tires cause less road noise, t ire wear and fuel
consumption.
(D Tips
You can also use all season tires instead of
w inter tires . Please note that in some coun­
tries where w inter t ires are required, only
w inter t ires with the
die. symbol may be per­
m itted.
Snow chains
Snow chains no t only imp rove the driving in wi n·
t er roa d cond itions, but a lso the brak ing.
" Only insta ll snow chains o n the
front wheels .
" Check and cor rect the sea ting of the snow
chains after dr iv ing a few feet, if necess ary. Fo l­
low the ins truc tions from the ma nufa cturer .
" Note the maximum pe rmit ted speed w hen driv ­
ing with snow chains . Do not exce ed 30 mph
(SO km/h).
Use of snow chains is only pe rm itted with certain
rim/ti re combinations due to tec hnical reasons .
Chec k with an authorized A udi d ealer or author­
ized A udi Service F acili ty to see if yo u may use
snow chains.
Use
fine-mesh snow chain s. They must not add
mo re t han 0.53 in (13 .5 mm) in height , including
the chain lock .
You mus t remove the snow c hains on roads with ­
out snow . Otherw ise, you could impair dr iving
abi lity and damage the tir es .
Wh eel s
A WARNING
Using incorrect snow chains or install ing snow
cha ins incorrectly can resu lt in loss of veh icle
control, which increases the risk of a n acci­
dent.
(D Note
- Snow chains can damage the rims/wheel
cove rs* if the chains come into direct con ­
t act with them . Remove the wheel covers*
first . Use coa ted snow cha ins .
- Do not install and use snow c hains if the re is
a malfu nction in the a ir suspension*, be­
cause the ve hicle height w ill be very low . If
yo u dr ive w ith snow chains anyway, the
w hee l ho usings and other ve hicle compo­
nents can be seve rely damaged.

Low-profile tires
Applies to: vehicles with low-profile tires
Your vehicle is equipped with low -profi le tires* at
the factory . Compared to other tire/rim combina­
tions, low-prof ile tires offer a w ider tread surface
and a larger rim diameter with shorter tire side­
walls. This results in an agile dr iv ing style. How­
ever, it may reduce the level of comfort and in ­
c rease road noise when driving on roads in poo r
cond it ion.
Low-profile t ires can become damaged more
quickly than standard tires when dr iving over
la rge bumps, potholes , manhole covers, speed
bumps and curbs. Therefo re, it is particularly im­
po rtant to mainta in the co rrect ti re pressure
q poge 343.
To reduce the risk of damage to the tires and
r ims, drive very caref ully on poor roads.
Check your wheels regu larly every 2,000 mi
(3,000 km) for damage . For example, chec k for
bulges/cracks on the tires or deformations/
c racks on the rims . .,..

Emergency assistance
-If a tire pressure of 29 psi (200 kPA) cannot
reached after inflating for 6 minutes, then
the tire is too severely damaged. Do not
continue driving.
- If the tire cannot be repaired with the tire
sealant, see an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility for ass istance.
(D} Tips
Do not operate the compressor for more than
six minutes continuously, or it can overheat.
Once the compressor has cooled, you can con­
tinue to use it .
Completing
"' Adhere the sticke r that says "max . SO mph
(max. 80 km/h)" that is provided w ith the tir e
mobility kit within the driver's fie ld of vision.
"'S top the vehicle after driving for about 10 mi­
nutes and check the tire pressure .
"' If the tire pressure is lower than 19 psi (130
kPA), then the tire is too severely damaged. Do
not continue driving.
A WARNING
Pay attention to the following after repairing
the tire :
- Do not drive faster than SO mph (80 km/h).
- Avoid hard acceleration, braking sharply, and fast cornering.
- The vehicle may become more difficult to
control.
- If the tire is too severely damaged, see an
authorized Audi dealer or authorized Aud i
Service Facility for assistance .
@ For the sake of the environment
You can give the used tire sealant bottle to an
authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Service Facility for disposal.
@ Tips
Remember to obtain a new bottle of sealant
from an authorized Audi dea ler or authorized
Audi Service Facility after repairing a tire.

' Preparation
You must complete the preparation before
changing a tire .

"' Select the P selector lever posit ion.
"' When towing a trailer: disconnect the trailer
from your vehicle.
"' Lay out the vehicle tool kit¢
page 360 and the
spare tire.
"' Switch on wheel change mode* in the Infotain­
ment system:

control button >
Service & checks > Air suspen­
sion: wheel change.
"'Switch the ignition off.
The vehicle jack mode* switches off automatical­ ly at speeds above 6 mph (10 km/h).
A WARNING
When using the ve hicle jack* on a road with a
steep hill or offroad, you must take extra pre­
cautions to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Use suitable objects to block the front and
back of the wheel that is diagonal from the
wheel with the flat tire.
A WARNING
You or your passengers could be injured while
changing a whee l if you do not follow these
safety precautions:
- If you have a flat tire, move a safe distance
off the road. Turn off the engine, turn the
emergency f lashers on and use other warn­
ing devices to alert other motorists.
- Make sure that passengers wait in a safe
place away from the vehicle and well away
from the road and traffic.
- To help prevent the vehicle from moving
suddenly and possibly slipping off the jack*,
always fully set the parking brake and block
the front and back of the wheel diagonally opposite the wheel being changed. When
one front wheel is lifted off the ground,
