A WARNING
- The power front seats can also be adjusted
when the ignition is switched off. To reduce
the risk of injury, children should never be
left unattended in the vehicle for this rea­
son.
Seats and storage
- To reduce the risk of an accident, only adjust
the driver's seat when the vehicle is station­
ary.
- E xercise caution when adjusting the seat
height. Unsupervised or careless seat ad­
justment can pinch fingers or hands, which
increases the risk of injury .
- The front seat backrests must not be re­
clined too far back when driving, because
this impairs the effectiveness of the safety
belts and airbag system, which increases
the risk of injury.
Multifunction button

You can adjust the massage function, lumbar
support, side bolsters and upper thigh support
using the multifunction button .

ing the seat without paying attention can

To be able to enter and exit, you must fold the
backrest on the second row seat down, and then
fold the seat upward.

down, they must not be used as a footrest
or have objects placed on them as this in­

- To reduce the risk of an accident, never drive with objects on the folded third row* backr­ests if the second row seats are folded up­
right.
- Be mindful of persons in the third row*
when folding down the second row seats.
Not paying attention when folding down
seats can cause pinching injuries.
- Always pull forward on the backrest to make
sure it is check if it is correctly locked in
place.

The head restraint is automatically folded in
when the backrest is folded down . You must
manually unfo ld the head restraint after unfold­
ing the backrest .

Meaning of the LED in the button
- If the LED blink s, the backrest is still not in its
end position.
- If the LED turn s on, the backrest is in its end
posi tion.
_& WARNING
- Be carefu l when fo lding and unfolding the
backrests. Not paying attention and not
checking when fo ld ing/unfolding the backr­
ests can lead to pinch ing injuries.
- Always pull forward on the backrest to make
sure it is check if it is correctly locked in
place.
- Do not drive if the indicator light in the but­
ton is blinking

- Do not place any objects on the third row
seat backrest if it is not completely folded
down.
(I} Tips
- Very low temperatures can cause malfunc ­
t ions when folding and unfolding the backr­
ests . If this is the case, moving the vehicle
to a warmer a rea (such as a garage) will
help.
- T he backrest cannot be fo lded down or up if
the vehicle door on the side to be adjusted is closed .

The 12-volt sockets can be used for electrical ac­
cessories . The power usage must not exceed
120 watts .
There is an additional 12 Volt socket* in the cen ­
ter conso le storage compartment .
A WARNING
The sockets and the electrical accessories con­
nected to them only function when the igni­
tion is switched on . Incorrect usage can lead
to ser ious injuries o r bu rns . To reduce the risk
of injuries, never leave chi ldren unattended in
the vehicle with the vehicle key.
CD Note
- To reduce t he risk of damage to the vehicle
electrica l system, never attempt to charge
the veh icle battery by connecting accesso­
r ies t hat provide power, such as solar pane ls
or battery chargers, to the 12 Volt sockets
or the cigarette lighter.
- To reduce the risk of damage to the sockets,
on ly use plugs that fit correct ly.

A WARNING -
- Do not put any hot beverages in the cup
holder while the vehicle is moving. Hot bev­
erages could spill, which increases the risk

ers (for example , made out of glass or por­
celain). You could be injured by them in the
event of an accident.
CD Note
Beverage containers in the cup holders should
a lways have a lid. If not, beverages could spill
and cause damage to veh icle equipment, such

You will find a variety of storage compartments
and holders at various locations in the vehicle.

els on the driver's side and front passenger's

- Storage compartment* in the center console

--Always keep the glove compartment lid
closed while dr iving to reduce the risk of in­
jury .
- Only use the storage compartments in the
door trim panels to store small objects that
will not stick out of the compartment and
impair the range of the side airbags.
- Make sure that the view to the rear is not
obstructed by hanging garments.
- Hang only lightweight clothing and be sure
that there are no heavy or sharp-edged ob­
jects in the pockets.
- Do not use coat hangers to hang the cloth­
ing because this could impair the effective­
ness of the side curtain airbags .

Driving
engaged, for examp le when you notice that the
next traffic light is red . This produces an engine
braking effect, wh ich helps to protect the brakes
and tires and reduces the emissions and fuel con­
sumpt ion to zero (fuel shut-off during decelera­
tion) .
Shift efficientl y
Upshifting earlier is an effective way to save fuel.
Staying in a gear too long uses fue l unnecessari­
ly .
Press down on the acce lerator peda l slowly and
avoid "k ick -down".
Avoid full acceleration
You sho uld rarely t ravel a t the maximum vehicle
speed. High speeds cause a disp ropor tionately
h igh increase in fuel consumption, emissions and
traffic noise . Driving more slowly saves fue l.
Reduce idling time
The Start/Stop system* helps to reduce the id ling
time automatically. In vehicles wi tho ut the Start/
Stop system*, it is efficient to switch the engine
off when stopped at rai lroad crossings and long
red lights . Stopping the engine for 30 -40 sec ­
onds already saves more fuel than the amount of
extra fuel needed to restart the eng ine.
I t takes a very long time in idle to wa rm the en ­
gine up to operating temperature . Wear and
emissions are especially high in the wa rm -up
phase. Therefore, yo u should begin driving im­
mediately after starting the engine. Avoid high
RPMs while do ing th is .
Have ma intenance performed regularly
By having maintenance performed regu larly on
your veh icle, you can help to reduce f uel con­
sumpt ion before yo u even start to dr ive. The
maintenance condition of your vehicle not only
affects traffic safety and long -term value but a l­
so impacts f uel consumption . A poorly main­
tained engine can lead to f uel consumpt ion that
is 10% higher tha n normal.

Avoid short trips
The eng ine and exh aust clean ing syste m mus t
r each their op tima l operating temperatu re to ef­
fectively reduce consumption and emissions.
A cold engine uses a d isp roportion ately high
amoun t of fue l. The e ngine re aches opera ting
temperat ure and cons umption norma lizes on ly
after approximate ly 2.S mi les ( 4 km).
Check the tire pressure
To save fue l, ma ke sure the t ires are always in­
flated to the corre ct press ure
~ page 343. The
f uel consumpt ion c an increase by S% if the p res­
s ur e is only 0 .S bar too low. Due to the inc reased
rol ling resistance, low tire pressures w ill also
l ead to greater tire wear and will affect driving
behavior.
Do not drive on winter tires year -round, as this
will consume up to 10% more f ue l.
Eliminate unnecessary weight
Since eve ry po und of ext ra weight increases f uel
consump tion, a quick inspect io n of the luggage
compartment may be wo rth it to avoid unneces ­
sary weight .
When not be ing used, a roof ra ck sho uld be re­
moved to decrease the w ind resis tance of the ve­
hicle . This will save yo u approx ima tely 12% fue l
at speeds from 62 -7S mph (100 -120 km/h) .
Save energy
The engine d rives the generator, which generates
electri city; the f uel consumpt ion also increases
with t he deman d for e lec tricity . T he refore, sw itch
electrica l eq uipment o ff when you no longe r
need it . Examples of eq uipment that uses a lot of
energy are air blowers at a high setting, the rear
window defogger and seat heating* .
CJ) Note
Do not leave engine idling unattended after
starting. If warning lights s hould come on to
i ndicate imprope r operation, they would go
unheeded. Extended idling also prod uces
h eat, which could result in overheating or
other damage to the vehicle or othe r proper­
ty .

To reduce the risk of poisoning, never allow
the engine to run in confined spaces.

Avoid high engine speed, full throttle, and
heavy engine load if the engine has not
reached operating temperature yet. You could
damage the engine.
@ For the sake of the environment
Do not let the engine run while parked to
warm up. Begin driving immediately. This re­
duces unnecessary emissions.
(D Tips
-Some noise after starting the engine is nor­
mal and is no cause for concern.
- If you leave the vehicle with the ignition
switched on, the ignition will switch off af­
ter a certain amount of time. Make sure that
electrical equipment such as the exterior
lights are switched off.

Emergency off function*
If it is absolutely necessary, the engine can also
be turned off while driving at speeds starting at
4 mph (7 km/h) . To switch the engine off, press
the
! START ENGINE STOPI button twice in a row
briefly or press and hold for longer than two sec­
onds.
A WARNING
- Never turn off the engine before the vehicle
has come to a complete stop. The full func­
tion of the brake booster and the power
steering is not guaranteed. You must use

more force to turn or brake. Because you
cannot steer and brake as you usually
would, this could lead to accidents and seri­ ous injuries .
- Always take the key with you whenever you
leave your vehicle. Otherwise, the engine
could be started or electrical equipment
such as the power windows could be operat­
ed. This can lead to serious injury.
- For safety reasons, always park the vehicle with the selector lever in the P position .
Otherwise, there is the risk that the vehicle
could roll unintentionally .
(D Note
If the engine has been under heavy load for
an extended period of time, heat builds up in
the engine compartment after the engine is
switched off and there is a risk of damaging
the engine. For this reason, let the engine run
for at idle for approximately two minutes be­
fore shutting it off.
(D Tips
For up to 10 minutes after stopping the en­
gine, the radiator fan may turn on again auto­
matically or it may continue to run (even if
the ignition is switched off) for the following reasons :
- The coolant temperature is increasing due
to trapped heat .
- If the engine is warm and the engine com­
partment also heats up from strong sun­
light.
- Applies to: vehicles with diesel particulate
filter: The emissions control system is heat­
ed through the regeneration process, even if
the engine has not reached its operating
temperature yet .
Messages
Engine running. Warning! Turn off ignition be­

This message appears and a warning tone sounds if you open the driver's door when the engine is
