The instrument illumination for the needles
and d ia ls t urns on when the ignition is turned
on and the lights are turned off. The ill umina ­
t ion fo r the g auges reduces aut omat ically and
eve ntu ally t urns off as brigh tness outside in­
creases . This f unction reminds the drive r to
tur n the low beams on at the approp riate
time.
Coolant temperature indicator
ed o n. To prevent engine damage, please observe
t h e following notes about the temperature rang­
es.
Cold range
If only the LEDs at the bottom of the gauge t urn
on, the engine has not reached operating tem­
perature yet. Avoid high eng ine speeds, full ac­
ce le rating and heavy e ngine loads.
Normal range
T he eng ine has reached its operating tempera­
ture once the L EDs up to the center of the gauge
turn on.
If the. indicator light in the inst ru­
ment cluster d isp lay turns on, the coolant tem­
perature is too high¢

cooling air while driving . If the spoiler is
damaged, the cooling effect w ill be im­
paired and the risk of the engine overheat­
i ng will increase. See an author ized Audi

Due to the high eff ic iency of these engines,
the engine may not always reac h opera ting
t em perature i n cold outside tempe ra tur es.
This is normal and not a cause for con cern .
Tachometer
The tachometer displays the engine speed in rev ­
olutions per minute (RPM).
You shou ld shift to the next lowest gea r whe n
the speed is below 1,S00 R PM. T he begin ning of
the re d zone in the tachome ter ind icates the
maximum permissible engine speed fo r all gea rs
once the engine has been bro ken in and when it is
warmed up to operating temperature . Before
reaching the red zone, you should shift into the
next h igher gea r, c hoose the Dor S selecto r lever
position, or remove your foot from the accelera­
tor pedal.

Indicator Lights
· Description
The ind icator lights in the instrument cluster
bl ink or tur n on. They ind icate fu nctions or mal­
funct io ns.
Messages may appear w ith some indicator lights.
A war ning s ignal will sound at the same time.
The ind icator lights and messages i n the instru­
ment clus ter d isp lay can be cove red by ot he r dis ­
plays. To show them ag ai n, se lec t t he tab for in ­
dicator lights and messages using the mu ltifu nc­
tion steering whee l
c> page 21. If there are sev­
eral ma lfunctions, you can display them one at a
time us ing the thumbwheel.

Central indicator light

off to the

cator l ight monitors the safety systems.
If the
II (USA models)/ m (Canada models) in­
d icator light turns on or blinks, there is a mal ­
function in a safety system such as the airbag or
be lt tensioner system .
Drive to an authori zed Audi dealer or authorized
Aud i Service Facility immediately to have the
malfunct ion corrected .
_& WARNING
Have the malfunct ion in the safety systems
inspected immediately . Otherwise, there is a
r isk that the systems may not activate during
a collision, which increases the risk of serious
injury or death.
{0 } Brake pads
EIJ Brake pads!
The brake pads are worn.
Drive to an authorized Aud i dealer or authorized
Aud i Service Facility immediately to have the
b rake pads checked.

EPC Engine control (gasoline engine)
If the 13:a indicator light turns on if there is a
malfunction in the engine control.

thorized Audi Service Facility to have the engine
checked.
W Engine control (diesel engine)
The engine is preheating if the II indicator light
turns on when the ignition is switched on .
If the indicator light does not turn on or blinks
while driving, there is an engine control malfunc­
t ion.
Immediate ly drive s low ly to an authorized Audi
dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility to have
the malfunction corrected.
C Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is part of
the On Board Diagnostic system (OBD II) . The
¢4 c;ymbol turns on when the ignition is sw itched
on and turns off aga in once the engine is started
and running at a steady idle speed. This indicates
that the MIL is f unct ion ing correctly.
The indicator light turns on if there is a malfunc­
t ion in the engine electronics . See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fac ility to
have the malfunction corrected. Fo r additional

er cap is not closed correctly

_r~ Diesel particulate filter
Applies to: vehicles with diesel engine and diesel particulate
filter
II Particulate filter: System fault See owner's
manual
The diesel particulate filter requires regenera­
t ion . To support the filter 's self -clean ing func ­
t ion:
Drive for approximately 15 minutes at 37 mph
(60 km/h) or above in the S selector lever posi­
t ion . Keep the engine speed around 2,000 RPM .
The temperature increase that will result from
t hi s can burn off the soot in the fi lter. The indica­
tor light wi ll tu rn off when the cleaning has com-
pleted successfully. .,..

The engine speed is automatica lly lim ited to the
speed d isplayed in the instrument cluster. T his
p rotects the e ng ine from overheating .
The engine speed lim itation deactivates once the
engine is no longer in the critical temperature
range and you have released the acce le rato r ped­
al once .
I f the engine speed lim itation was activated by
an eng ine contro l ma lf u nction,
the @B indicator
light also t urn s on. Make su re that the speed
does not go above t he speed d is p layed . Drive to
a n author ized A udi dealer or au thor ized A udi
Serv ice Facili ty im medi ately to have t he m alfunc­
tion cor rec ted.

Applies to: Sand RS models
The e ngi ne sp eed is lim it e d whe n the eng ine

that there may be ice on roads even when the
outside temperature is around 41 °F (+5 °C)
and that ice can increase the risk of accide nts .

Infotainment system .
- If your vehicle is stationary or if you are driv­
i ng at very low speeds, the temperature dis­
played may be s light ly higher than the ac­
tual tempe ra ture o utside d ue to the heat ra­
d ia ti ng from the engine.

Operation
The driver information system is operated using

You can call up the following information in the
on-board computer:
- Date
- Driving time from the short-term memory
- Average consumpt ion from the short-term
memory
- Average speed from the short-term memory
- Distance driven from the short-term memory
- Current fuel consumption
- Short-term memory overview
- Long-term memory overview
The short-term memory co llects driving informa­
tion from the t ime the ignition is switched on un­
til it is switched off.
If you continue driv ing with­
in two hours af ter switching the ignition off, the
new values are included when calculat ing the cur­
rent trip information .
Unlike the short-term memory, the long-term
memory is not erased automat ically. Yo u can se­
l ect the time period for evaluating trip informa­
tion yourself.
F or some veh icle functions, you can access the
driving info rmation from the short-term memory
in the
line @c:>page21, fig. 5.
Fuel consumption
The current fue l consumption can be shown us­
ing a bar g raph c:>
fig. 8. The average consump­
tion stored in the short-term memory is also dis­
p la yed. If the bar is green, your vehicle is saving
fuel through one of the following functions:
-Re cuperation : electrical ene rgy can be stored in
the vehicle battery when the vehicle is coasting or driving downhill. The bar will move toward
0.
-Cylinder on demand system*: the engine auto­
matically switches four cylinders off when low­
er power output is required and other condi­
tions are met . This change is not noticeable to
the passengers.

mat can be set in the Infotainment system

Efficiency program
Applies to: vehicles with efficiency prog ram

T he eff iciency program can help you to use less
fuel.
It shows other consumers that are using
f uel and economy tips give advice on how to dr ive
efficiently. The efficiency program receives dis­
tance and consumption data from the on-board
computer.
T o display the efficien cy program, open the
Vehi­
cle functions
menu and select the Efficiency pro·
gram
menu item.
Other consumers
T he Energy consumers view lists other equip­
ment that is currently affecting fuel cons ump­
tion. The display shows up to three o ther equ ip­
ment items @c:>

most power is listed first. If more than three
items using power are switched on, the equip­
ment that is current ly using the most power is
displayed.
A gauge @also shows the current tota l con­
sumption of all other consumers.
