Econom y tip s
I n certain s ituations, economy tips appear auto ­
matica lly for a sho rt time in the efficiency pro­
gram
c:> fig. 10. If you fo llow these economy tips,
you can reduce your v ehicle's fuel consumption.
To t urn an economy tip off immed iate ly after it
appears, press any button on the multifunction
steering wheel.
(D Tips
- If you e rase the data in the efficiency pro­
gram, the values in the on-board computer
will a lso be reset.
- Once you have turned an economy tip off , it
will only appear again after you turn the ig ­
nition on again.
- The economy t ips are not displayed in every
instance, but rather in intervals over a peri­
od of t ime .
Odometer

The display of distance dr iven is shown in m iles
" mi" or ki lomete rs "km". The uni ts of measure­
ment (kilometers/miles) can be changed in the
I nfotainment system.
Trip odometer and odometer The trip odometer shows the distance driven
since it was last reset. It can be used to measure
short distances .
The trip odometer can be reset to zero by press­ i n g the ~ reset button .
The odometer shows the total distance that the
vehicle has been driven .

Malfunction indicator
If there is a malfunction in the instrument clus­
ter ,
DEF will appear in the trip odometer display.
Have the malfunction corrected as soon as possi­
ble .
Time/date display
The date, time of day and time and date format
can be set in the Infotainment system. Refer to
the Infotainment system operating manual for
instruct ions.
When you open the driver's door, the date and
time appear in the instrument cluster display for 30 seconds.
Head-up display
Applies to: vehicles with Head-up Dis p lay

The Head- up display p rojects certain warn ings or
selected information from the assist systems* or navigation* on the windshield. The display ap­
pears w ith in the driver's field of vision.

The height of the display can be adjusted to the

Display content
In the Infotainment system, yo u can specify
which informa tion should be displayed: For ex­
ample, th is can incl ude navigation informat ion*,
Adap tive cr uise con trol* or nig ht vision ass ist *.
T he display of certa in i nformation and some of
the red indicator lig hts cannot be h idden in the
I nfotainmen t system .
Display brightness
You can ad just the display brightness in the Info­
tainmen t system. The display brig htness decreas­
es automatically as the amount of light decreas­
es . The backgro und bright ness is adjusted with
the ins trumen t illumina tion <=:>

head-up d is p lay, do not place any o bjects in
t h e projection o pening.

On Board Diagnostic
System (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Ma lfunction I ndicator Lamp (M IL) ¢• in the
inst rument cluste r is pa rt of the On-Board D iag­
nostic (OBD
II) system .
T he w arnin g/i ndic ator lig ht ill uminates w hen the
ignition is sw itche d on an d goes out after the en­
gine starts and the idle has stab ilized. This indi­
cates that the MIL is wor king p roperly.
If the light does not go out a fter the eng ine is
started, or illum inates w hile you are drivin g, a
malfu nction may ex ist in t he engine system . If
t h e lig ht ill uminates, the catalytic converter
cou ld be damaged.

Marking light*
To direct the driver's attention to a pedestr ian ,
the headlights can flash on the pedestrian three
t imes in a row whe n there is a pedestr ian warn­

This occurs at speeds above approximately
35 mph (60 km/h) if you are outside of illuminat­
ed a reas and no de tected veh icles are shown. Th e
high beam assistant* con trols the ma rking ligh t*

\.J ' -Therefore, always wear your safety belts and
make sure that everybody in your vehicle is
properly restrained.
- Always hold the steering wheel with both
hands on the outside of the steering wheel
rim at the 9:00 o'clock and 3:00 o'clock po­
sitions to help reduce the risk of personal in­
jury if the driver's airbag inflates .
- Never hold the steering wheel at the 12
o'clock position or with your hands any­
where inside the steering wheel or on the steering wheel hub. Holding the steering
wheel the wrong way increases the risk of
severe injury to the arms, hands, and head if
the driver airbag deploys.
& WARNING
Objects between you and the airbag will in ­
crease the risk of injury in a crash by interfer­
ing with the way the airbag unfolds and/or by
being pushed into you as the airbag inflates.
- Always make sure nothing is in the front air-
-
bag deployment zone that could be struck
by the airbag when it inflates.
- Objects in the zone of a deploying airbag
can become projectiles when the airbag de­
ploys and cause serious personal injury.
- Never hold things in your hands or on your
lap when the vehicle is in use.
- Never place accessories or other objects
(such as cup holders, telephone brackets,
note pads, navigation systems, or things
that are large, heavy, or bulky) on the doors;
never attach then to the doors or the wind­
shield; never place them over or near or at­
tach them to the area marked ,,AIRBAG" on
the steering wheel, instrument panel or the seat backrests; never place them between
these areas and you or any other person in
the vehicle .
- Never attach objects to the windshield
above the passenger front airbag, such as
accessory GPS navigation units or music
players. Such objects could cause serious in­
jury in a collision, especially when the air­ bags inflate .
Airbag system
-Never recline the front passenger seat to
transport objects. Items can also move into
the deployment area of the side airbags or
the front airbag during breaking or in a sud­
den maneuver. Objects near the airbags can
fly dangerously through the passenger com­
partment and cause injury, particularly
when the seat is reclined and the airbags in­
flate.
& WARNING
= -
A person on the front passenger seat, espe­
cially infants and small children, will receive
serious injuries and can even be killed by be­ ing too close to the airbag when it inflates.
- Although the Advanced Airbag System in
your vehicle is designed to turn off the front
passenger airbag if an infant or a small child
is on the front passenger seat, nobody can
absolutely guarantee that deployment un­
der these special conditions is impossible in
all conceivable situations that may happen
during the useful life of your vehicle.
= The Advanced Airbag System can deploy in
accordance with the .,low risk" opt ion for 3-
and 6-year-old children under the U.S. Fed­
eral Standard if a child with electrical capac­ itance greater than the combined capaci­
tance of a typical one-year old infant re­
strained in one of the forward facing or rear­
ward-facing child seats with which your ve­
hicle was certified is on the front passenger
seat and the other conditions for airbag de­
ployment are met.
- Accident statistics have shown that children
are generally safer in the rear seat area than
in the front seat ing pos ition.
- For their own safety, all children, especially
12 years and younger, should always ride in
the back properly restrained for their age
and size.
Advanced front airbag system
Your vehicle is equipped with a front Advanced
Airbag System in compliance with United States
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208, as
well as Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard ..,.
