Display content
In the Infotainment system, yo u can specify
which informa tion should be displayed: For ex­
ample, th is can incl ude navigation informat ion*,

T he display of certa in i nformation and some of
the red indicator lig hts cannot be h idden in the
I nfotainmen t system .
Display brightness
You can ad just the display brightness in the Info­
tainmen t system. The display brig htness decreas­
es automatically as the amount of light decreas­
es . The backgro und bright ness is adjusted with
the ins trumen t illumina tion <=:>

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Ma lfunction I ndicator Lamp (M IL) ¢• in the
inst rument cluste r is pa rt of the On-Board D iag­
nostic (OBD
II) system .
T he w arnin g/i ndic ator lig ht ill uminates w hen the
ignition is sw itche d on an d goes out after the en­
gine starts and the idle has stab ilized. This indi­
cates that the MIL is wor king p roperly.
If the light does not go out a fter the eng ine is
started, or illum inates w hile you are drivin g, a
malfu nction may ex ist in t he engine system . If
t h e lig ht ill uminates, the catalytic converter
cou ld be damaged.
Cont inue d riving
with reduced power (avoiding
s u stai ned high speeds and/o r rap id accelera­
t ions) and have the condition corrected. Contact
yo ur aut hori zed Aud i deale r.
If the light illum inates, the elect ronic speed lim­

Opening and closin g
Setting th e lugg age c ompartm ent lid open
p os itio n
~ Bring the luggage compartment lid into the de­
sired open position
c::> (D . The position must be
at a certain height or higher to store.
~ Press and hold the~ button for at least four
seconds to store the new open position . A visu ­
al and aud io signal w ill follow.
~ To set a higher open position, wait at least five
seconds and then carefully press the luggage
compartment lid upward.
~ Press and hold the~ button again for at least
four seconds to store the new open position .
The opening/closing p rocess w ill stop immedi­
ately if:
- You pull/release the
la! button in the driver 's
doo r, or
- You press/release the~ button on the remote
contro l key (vehicles wit h convenience key*) , or
- You press the
!a l or [®] button (vehicles with
convenience key*) in the luggage compartment
li d, or
- You push the handle in the luggage compart­
ment lid , or
- You press against the luggage compartment l id
against the d irect ion it is mov ing, or
- When something blocks the luggage compart ­
ment l id or makes it diff icult for the lid to
move .
If you press the handle or one of the~ or[®] but­
tons (vehicles with convenience key*) now , the
luggage compartment lid will either open or
close, depending on what ang le it is at .

- After closing the luggage compartment lid,
always pull up on it to make sure that it is
properly closed . Otherwise it co uld open
suddenly when the vehicle is moving.
- T o help prevent poisonous exhaust gas from
being drawn into the veh icle, always keep
the luggage compartment lid closed while
driv ing. Never transport objects larger than
those which fit completely into the luggage

area, because then the luggage compart­
ment lid cannot be fully closed.
- Never leave your vehicle unattended espe­
cially with the luggage compartment lid left
open. A child could craw l into the car
through the luggage compartment and pull
the lid shut, becoming trapped and unable
to get out. To reduce the risk of personal in­
jury, never let children play in or around
your veh icle. Always keep t he luggage com­
pa rtment lid as well as the veh icle doors
closed when not in use.
- Never close the luggage compartment lid
inattentive ly or without checking first. Al­
though the closing force of the luggage compartment lid is limited, you can still se­
rious ly injure yourself or others .
- Always ensu re that no one is within range of
the luggage compartment lid when it is moving, in particular close to the hinges and
the upper and lower edges -fingers or
hands can be pinched.
- Never try to interfere with the luggage com­
partment lid or help it when it is be ing
opened or closed automat ically .
(D Note
The l uggage compartment lid can bump into
objects s uch as the garage ceiling when open­
ing and become damaged .
(D Tips
-The settings in the Infotainment system de­
termine if the luggage compartment lid can
be opened using the handle

-There are audio signa ls when closing the
luggage compartment lid with the remote
control key (vehicles with conven ience key*)

height. Unsupervised or careless seat ad­
justment can pinch fingers or hands causing

- The front seat backrests must not be re­
clined too far back when driving, because
this impa irs the effect iveness of the safety
be lts and airbag system, which increases
the risk of i nju ry.

ing wheel, check with your authorized Audi

face, the supplemental driver's airbag can­
not provide as much protection in an acci­
dent. A lways make sure that the steering
wheel is aligned with your chest.
- Always hold the steering wheel with your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to reduce the risk of personal injury if
the driver's airbag deploys .
- Never hold the steering wheel at the 12
o'clock position or with your hands inside
the steering wheel rim or on the steering
wheel hub . Holding the steering wheel the
wrong way can cause serious injuries to the
hands, arms and head if the driver's airbag
deploys.
Power steering wheel position adjustment

The steering wheel position can be adjusted elec­
trically up and down and forward and back.

The steering column will continue moving as
long as you are pressing the switch .
• To move the steering whee l forward or back,
press the switch forward/back. The steering
column will continue moving as long as you are pressing the switch .

The steering wheel can also be adjusted when the
ignition is switched off.
In vehicles with memory function*, the steering
column settings are sto red together with the
seat position.
~ WARNING
Improper use of steering wheel adjustment
and improper seating position can cause seri­
ous personal injury.
- Adjust the steering wheel column only when
the vehicle is not moving to prevent loss of
vehicle control.
- Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel so
that there is a minimum of 10 in (25 cm)
between your chest and the steering wheel

When towing a trailer, inflate the tires of your
vehicle to the tire pressure listed under "Full
load" on the label
¢page 221. Inflate trailer
tires to trailer and tire manufacturers' specifica­
tions .
Lights
Check to make sure both vehicle and trailer lights
are working properly.
Safety chains
Be sure trailer safety chains are properly connect­
ed from the trailer to the hitch on the vehicle. Leave enough slack in the chains to permit turn­
ing corners. When you install safety chains, make
sure they will not drag on the road when you are
driving.
The chains should cross under the trailer tongue
to prevent it from dropping in case of separation
from the hitch.
Adjusting the Audi drive select
Make sure the vehicle is on a level surface before
hitching up the trailer and before adjusting the
tongue weight. The vehicle must be in
auto or
comfort driving mode and not raised
¢page 105, ¢0 .
Make sure that the vehicle is lowered. In Info­
tainment , select:
ICARI function button> Lower
control button.
If you must drive under poor road conditions , you
can raise the vehicle
after coupling the trailer or
after adjusting the tongue weight ¢page 107.

-Changes in temperature or load can affect
the height of the vehicle.
- Always select
auto or comfort mode. Other­
wise, the tongue load specified for your ve­
hicle will no longer be applicable.
Trailer towing
Driving instructions
Driving with a trailer always requires extra care
and consideration .
Weight distribution
Towing a loaded trailer with an empty car results
in a highly unstable distribution of weight. If this
cannot be avoided, drive at very low speeds only
to avoid the risk of losing steering control.
A "balanced" rig is easier to operate and control.
This means that the tow vehicle should be loaded
to the extent possible and permissible, while keeping the trailer as light as possible under the
circumstances . Whenever possible, transfer
some cargo to the luggage compartment of the
tow vehicle while observing tongue load require­
ments and vehicle loading considerations.
Speed
The higher the speed, the more difficult it be­
comes for the driver to control the rig . Do not
drive at the maximum permissible speed. Reduce
your speed even more if load, weather or wind
conditions are unfavorable -particularly when
going downhill.
Reduce vehicle speed
immediately if the trailer
shows the slightest sign of swaying .
Do not try
to stop the swaying by accelerating.
Observe speed limits. In some areas, speeds for
vehicles towing trailers are lower than for regular
vehicles.
Always apply brakes early . When driving down ­
hill, shift into a lower gear to use the engine
braking effect to slow the vehicle. Use of the
brakes alone can cause them to overheat and fail.
Air suspension*
When driving with a trailer, activate the trailer
mode of the air suspension. Switch the air sus ­
pension trailer mode on when you are towing a
trailer. This will limit the regulation by the air
suspension while driving . Select in the MMI:

power varies from balanced (comfort) to sporty
(dynamic) depending on the selected mode. The
goal is a high leve l of agility and ability to accel­
erate on curves. The veh icle is very responsive to
steer ing .
Cornering light*
The cornering light adapts the high beams to the
direction of the curve depending on the speed.
The pivot ing action and the lighting also adapt to
the mode.
Adaptive c ru ise contr ol*
The behavior when acce le rating can be adjusted
from comfortable to sporty, depending on the
drive select mode. Adaptive cruise control a lso
responds to the driving behavior of the veh icle
ahead in a more conservative or sporty manner.
Engine sound *
The engine sound adapts to the current mode
and can be subtle to sporty .
(D Note
Applies to: vehicles with adaptive air suspension
- Make sure there is enough clearance above
and below the veh icle when parking. The
height of the vehicle (ground clearance) can
change once it is parked due to tempera ture
fluctuations, changes to the load condit ions
and c hanges to the d riving modes.
- When transporting the veh icle on a car car­
r ier, tra in, ship or by other means, only tie
the veh icle dow n at the running surfa ce of
the tires, w hic h is the outer circ umference .
Securing the vehicle at the axle compo ­
nents, suspension st ruts or towing eyes is
not permitted because the pressure in the
air suspension struts can change dur ing
transport . The vehicle may not be secured
sufficiently if this happens.
(D Tips
- In some models, the maximum vehicle
speed can only be reached in the auto and
dynam ic modes.

Safe driving habits
Please remember -safety first!
This chapter contains important information,
tips, instructions and warnings that you need to
read and observe for your own safety, the safety
of your passengers and others . We have summar­
ized here what you need to know about safety
belts, airbags, child restraints as well as child
safety. Your safety is for us
priority number 1. Al­
ways observe the information and warnings in
this section - for your own safety as well as that
of your passengers.
The information in this section applies to all
model versions of your vehicle. Some of the fea­
tures descr ibed in this sections may be standard
equipment on some models, or may be optional
equipment on others. If you are not sure, ask
your authorized Audi dealer.
A WARNING
- Always make sure that you follow the in­
structions and heed the WARNINGS in this
Manual. It is in your interest and in the in­
terest of your passengers .

ture in your Audi when you lend or sell your
vehicle so that this important information

Safety equipment
The safety features are part of the occupant re­
straint system and work together to help reduce the risk of injury in a wide variety of accident sit­
uations.
Your safety and the safety of your passengers
should not be left to chance. Advances in tech­
nology have made a var iety of features available
to help reduce the risk of injury in an accident.
Driving safety
The following is a list of just a few of the safety
features in your Audi:
- sophisticated safety belts for driver and all pas-
senger seat ing pos itions,
- safety belt pretensioners,
- safety belt force limiters for the front seats,
- safety belt height adjustment systems for the
front seats,
- front airbags,
- knee airbags for the front seats*
- side airbags in the front seats and outer rear
seats*,
- side curtain airbags with ejection mitigation
features,
- special LATCH anchorages for child restraints,
- head restraints for each seat ing position,
- adjustab le steering column.
These individual safety features, can work to­ gether as a system to help protect you and your
passengers in a wide range of accidents . These
features cannot work as a system if they are not
always correctly adjusted and correctly used.
Safety is everybody's responsibility!
Important things to do before driving
Safety is everybody 's job! Vehicle and occupant
safety always depends on the informed and care­
ful driver .
For your safety and the safety of your passen­
gers,
before driving always:
.,. Make sure that all lights and signals are operat­
ing correctly .
.,. Make sure that the tire pressure is correct.
.,. Make sure that all windows are clean and afford
good visibility to the outside .
