-Never open the engine hood if you see or
hear steam, or if you see engine coolant
dripping from the engine compartment. You
could burn yourself. Let the engine cool off
first until you can no longer see or hear steam or coolant escap ing .
Q) Note
-Mounting additional lights or accessories in
front of the air inlets reduces the cooling ef­
fect of the radiator. At h igh outside temper­
atures or high engine load, the eng ine could
overheat.
- The front spo iler has been designed to prop­
erly distribute the cooling air when the veh i­
cle is moving. If the spoiler is damaged, this
could reduce the cooling effect and the en­
gine could then overheat. Ask your author­
ized Audi dealer for assistance.
Tachometer
The tachometer displays the engine speed in rev­
olutions per minute (RPM).
You shou ld shift to the next lowest gear when the
speed is below 1500 RPM . The beginn ing of the
red zone in the tachometer indicates the maxi­
mum permissible engine speed for all gears once
the engine has been broken in and when it is
warmed up to operating temperature. Before reaching the red zone, you should shift into the
next h igher gear, choose the Dor S selector lever
position, or remove your foot from the accelera­
tor pedal.

should only be in the red zone briefly: other­
w ise, this increases the risk of engine dam-
age. The location where the red zone beg ins
varies depend ing on the eng ine.

Fuel level
The fue l gauge only works when the ignition is
on. If the fue l level drops below 2.6 gallons (10
liters), the bottom LED turns red and the indica­
tor light

LED blinks red when the fuel leve l is very low .

Never drive until the tank is completely emp­
ty. The irregular supply of fue l that resu lts
from t hat can cause the eng ine to misfire. Un­
combusted fuel w il l then enter the exhaust
system . This can cause overheat ing and dam­
age to the catalytic converter.
Indicator lights
Description
The ind icator lights in the instrument cluster
blink or turn on. They indicate funct ions or ma l­

EPC Electronic power control

This warning/indicator ligh t monitors the elec­
tronic power control .
The (m warning/indicator light (Electronic Powe r
Control) illuminates when you switch the ignition
on as a function check.
{!) Tips
If this warning/indicator light illuminates
while you are driving, then there is a malfunc­
tion in the engine electronics. Have the mal­
function corrected as soon as possible by your
authorized Audi dealer or qualified repair fa­
cility.
W Glow plug system
App lies to vehicles: with diesel engine
The control light illuminates when the glow plug
system is active.
If the El indicator light illuminates, the glow
plug system is active . You should start the engine
immediate ly after the indicator light switches off.
The indicator light only illuminates for approxi­
mately 1 second if the engine is warm or if the
outside temperature is above 46 QF (8 QC).
@ Tips
-If the glow plug indicator light illuminates
while driving, there is an engine control
malfunction. The engine should be checked
immediately.
- If the indicator light does not illuminate at
all when switching the ignition on, there may be a malfunction in the glow plug sys­
tem. The engine should be checked.

o Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is part of
the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD II) system. The symbol
('4 lights up when the ignition is switch­
ed on and will turn off after the engine has start­
ed and has settled at a constant idle speed . This
indicates that the MIL is working properly.
The warning light illuminates when there is a
malfunction in the engine electronic system.
Contact your authorized Audi dealer and have the
malfunction corrected.
An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate

II Particulate filter: System fault See owner's

The diesel particulate fil ter requires regenera­
tion . To support the filter's self -cleaning func­
tion:
Drive for approximately 15 minutes with these­
lector lever in the S position at a minimum speed
of 37 mph (60 km/h) and an engine speed of ap ­
proximately 2,000 RPM . The temperature in­
crease that will result from this can burn off the
soot in the filter . T he symbol will switch off when
the cleaning is successful.
If the indicator light does
not turn off, drive im­
mediate ly to an authorized Audi dealer or author­
ized Audi Serv ice Facility to have the malfunction
corrected.
_&, WARNING
Always adapt your speed to the current
weather, road and traffic conditions . You
should never disobey traffic laws in order to
follow driving recommendations.

Instruments and indicato r Lights
Display content
In the Infotainment system, yo u can specify
which information should be displayed : For ex­
ample , this can include navigation information*,
Adapt ive cruise control * or night vision assist *.
The display of certain information and some of
the red indicator lights cannot be hidden in the
Infotainment system.
Display brightness
You can adjust the display brightness in the Info­
tainment system. The display brightness decreas­
es automatically as th e amount of light decreas­
es. The basic level of brightness is adjusted with
the instrument illum ination ¢

To prevent scratches on the gla ss covering the
Head-up display, do not place any objects in
the projection opening.
@ Tips
-Sunglasses with polar izat ion filters and un­
favorable lighting conditions can affect the
display.
- An optimum display depends on the seat
position and the height adjustment of the
head-up display.
- A specia l windshield is needed for the head­
up display function.

On Board Diagnostic
System (OBD}
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ¢..ifl in the
instrument cluster is part of the On-Board Diag­
nostic (OBD II) system.
The warning/indicator light illuminates when the
ignit ion is switched on and goes out after the en­
gine starts and the idle has stabilized. This indi­
cates that the MIL is working properly.
If the light does not go out after the engine is
started, or illuminates while you are dr iving, a

malfunction may exist in the engine system. If
the light illum inates , the catalytic converter
could be damaged.
Continue driving
with reduced power (avoiding
sustained high speeds and/or rapid accelerations)
and have the condition corrected. Contact your
authorized Aud i dea ler.
If the ligh t illuminates, the electronic speed lim­
iter may also be ma lfunctioning . For more infor­

On-Board Diagnostics

On-Board Diagnostics monitors the components
of your emission control system. Each monitored
component in your engine system has been as­
signed a code . In case o f a malfunct ion, the com­
ponent will be identified and the fault stored as a
code in the control module memory .
The MIL light may also ill uminate if there is a
leak in the on-board f uel vapor recove ry system.
If the light illuminates after a refuelling, stop the
vehicle and make sure the fuel filler cap is prop­
erly closed

In order to make an accurate diagnosis, the stor ­
ed data can only be displayed using special diag­
nostic equipment (generic scan tool for 080).
In order to connect the specia l diagnostic equip­
ment, push the plug into the Data Link Connector
(DLC). The DLC is located to the right of the hood

Seat s and storage
- Objects falling from the roof of a vehicle can
cause a crash and personal injury.
- Only mount the roof rack on the designated
locations on the roof¢

-The roof rack system must be insta lled ex­
actly according to the instructions provided .
- When driving with a roof rack system, changes to the center of gravity and w ind re ­
sistance can change the vehicle handling
and lead to a collision. A lways adapt your
dr iving and your speed to the current cond i­
t ions.

- Your vehicle warranty does not cover any
damages to the vehicle caused by using roof
racks or mounting structures not approved
by Aud i for your vehicle . The same app lies to
damage res ulting from incorrect roof rack
i nsta llation.
-A lways check the roof rack mount ings and
hardware before each trip and dur ing a tr ip
to make su re eve rything is securely tight­
ened .
If necessary, re tighten the mo untings
a nd chec k the en tire system from time to
time.
- After mounting a roof rack syste m, or when
you transport objec ts on the roof o f yo ur ve­
hicle, the height of the veh icle is naturally
increased. Be caref ul when driv ing under
l ow bridges or in parking garages for exam­
ple. This cou ld cause damage to the load
and even t he vehicle itself.
- Make sure the open rear lid and the sun­ roof* do not come into contact with the roof
rack .
Loading the roof rack
Always distribu te loads evenly. Make sure any­
t hing on the roof rack is securely tied down.
~ A lways distribute the loads on the roo f rack
evenly .
~ Always attach items to the roof rack secure ly
before you drive off .
The max imum permissib le roof weight is
220 lb
( 100 kg ).
The roof weight is the total of the

weight o f the roof rack, the attachments and the
cargo you are carry ing . You must a lso not exceed
the maximum load weight for the roof rack yo u
a re using .
When using a roof rack system which has a lower
l oad car rying capacity, you must not use up the
total max imum permissib le load carrying capaci ­
ty specified above. Inste ad, you should load the
roo f rack system only to the maximum capacity
specified by the manufacturer of the roof rack
system.
A WARNING
Weak, damaged or improper straps used to
secure i tems to the roof rack can fail d uring
hard br aking o r in a collision and cause ser i­
ous persona l injury.

created by a roof rack, you r vehicle is using
fuel u nnecessarily . So remove the roof rack af­
ter using it.

These fuels contain substances that can se ­
verely damage the fuel system and the en­
gine if the engine is started.
Refueling
Fuel filler neck
The fuel filler neck is located on the right rear
side pane l beh ind the fuel filler flap .
If the power locking system should fail, you can
still open the flap manually - for detailed instruc­
tions see
¢page 214.
You can find the fuel tank capacity of your vehicle
in
¢ page 272 .
The label on the inside of the fuel filler flap tells
you the correct fuel for your vehicle. For more in­
formation about fuel specifications, see
¢ page 210 .
Your vehicle fuel tank has an on board refuelling
vapor recovery system. This feature helps to pre­
vent fuel vapors from escaping from the tank and polluting the environment while you refue l your
vehicle. In order to fill the tank properly whi le
protec ting the environment, please follow this
refueling procedure carefully.
8_ WARNING
Under normal operating conditions, neve r ca r­
ry additional fuel containers in your car. Gas
canisters and other containers used to trans­
port fuel can be dangerous. Such containers,
full or empty, may leak and could cause a fire
in a collision. If you must transport fuel to
use for your lawn mowe r, snow blower, etc.,
be very careful and always observe loca l and
state laws rega rding the use, transportation
and storage of such fuel containers. Make cer­
tain the con tainer meets industry standards
(ANSI/ASTM F852 -86).
(D Note
Never drive you r vehicle until the fuel tank is
completely empty. The irregu lar supply of
fue l can cause misfiring. Gasoline could enter
the exhaust system and damage the catalytic
converter.

To avoid fuel spilling or evaporating from the fuel
tank always close fuel filler cap properly and
completely. An improperly closed fuel filler cap
may also cau se the MIL lamp¢
page 28 to come
on.
A WARNING
Improper refueling or handling of fuel can
cause fire, explosion and severe burns .
- Fuel is highly flammable and can cause se­
vere burns and other injuries .
- Failure to shut the engine off while refuel­
ing and/or to insert the pump nozzle fully
into the fuel filler neck could cause fuel to
spray out of filler neck or to overflow . Fuel
spray and overflowing fuel can cause a fire .
- Never use a cellular telephone while refuel­
ing. The electromagnetic radiation can
cause sparks that can ignite fuel vapors and
cause a fire.
-
-Never get back into your vehicle while refu­
eling.
If in exceptional circumstances you
must get back in your vehicle while refuel­
ing, make certain that you close the door
and touch metal to discharge static electric­
ity before touching the filler nozzle again.
Static electricity can cause sparks that can ignite fuel vapors released during refueling.
- Never smoke or have an open flame any­ where in or near your vehicle when refueling
or filling a portable fuel container.
- For your safety, we strongly recommend that you do not travel with a portable fuel container in your vehicle . The container, full
or empty may leak and could cause a fire,
especially in a crash .
- If, under exceptional circumstances, you
must transport a portable fuel container,
please observe the following:
- Never fill a portable fuel container while it
is anywhere in or on the vehicle (for exam­
ple, in the luggage compartment, or on
the trunk). Static electricity can build up while filling and can ignite fuel vapors
causing a fire.
- Always place a portable fuel container on
the ground before filling.

- Always keep the filler nozzle completely
inside the portable container before and
during filling.
- If filling a portable container made of
metal, the filler noz zle must always be in
contact with the container. This will help prevent static electricity from discharging
and cause a fire.
- Never spill fuel inside the vehicle or lug­
gage compartment . Fuel vapors are highly
flammable.
- Always observe local and state/provincial laws regarding the use, storage and trans­
portation of fuel containers.
- Make certain the fuel container meets in ­
dustry standards (ANSI/ ASTM F852 -86) .

If any fuel has spilled onto the car, it should
be removed immediately to prevent damage
to the paint.
@) For the sake of the environment
As soon as the correctly operated nozzle
switches off automatically for the first time,
the tank is full. Do not try to add more fuel
because fuel may spill out . In addition, the
expansion space in the fuel tank will be filled -
causing the fuel to overflow when it becomes
warm and pollute the environment.
(D Tips
- Running your engine while refuelling may
cause vapors to escape or even cause fuel to
spill out of the tank. This would then shut
off the fuel nozzle before the tank is full.
- Do not refuel your vehicle with the ignition
switched on. The fuel gauge may otherwise
not indicate the correct fuel level after refu­
elling.
- Diesel vehicles* are equipped with a diesel
misfueling protector. It allows the vehicle to
be fueled only with a diesel fuel pump noz­
zle . A worn or damaged nozzle or a nozzle
that is too small may not be able to open
the diesel misfueling protector. If this is the .,..

-Only use Ad Blue that conforms to the
standard ISO 22241-1. Do not mix any addi­
tives with the AdBlue and do not di lute it
with water.
- Do not add Ad Blue to the diesel tank or add diesel fuel to the AdBlue tank. Mixing can
lead to damage to the engine and the Ad Bl­
ue tank system .
- Ad Blue attacks surfaces such as painted ve­
hicle components, plastic and carpet . Re­
move the fluid as quickly as poss ible with a
damp cloth and plenty of cold water. If the
AdBlue has already crysta llized, use warm
water and a sponge. Ad Blue residue that is
not removed will crysta llize and can damage
the affected su rface.
- Do not store refill bottles or canisters per­
manently in the vehicle. If the container
l eaks, the escaping Ad B lue cou ld damage
the vehicle interior.
- Do not allow Ad Blue to come into contact
with clothing. If there is contact with the
fluid, flush immediately with plenty of wa­
ter.
