Wind buffeting can be described as the per-
ception of pressure on the ears or a booming
or rumbling sound. Your vehicle may exhibit
wind buffeting when driving with one or both
rear door windows down or partially opened.
This is a normal occurrence that can be mini-
mized. If the buffeting occurs with the reardoor windows open, open the front door win-
dows as well as the rear door windows to
minimize the condition.

The sunroof can be opened and closed with
the ignition switch in the “ON” position.
Press the switch (1), the sunroof automati-
cally opens and the sunroof will stop several
centimeters this side of
the full open position.
Press the switch (1) again, and the sunroof
will be fully open.
To stop the moving sunroo f, press the switch.

WA R N I N G Before driving with a child in the vehicle,
be sure to lock the window switch to make
it inoperative. Children tampering with
the switch could easily trap their hands or
heads in the window. What to do if you hear wind

that nothing can be trapped (head, hands,
fingers, etc.).Never leave a child (or other person who is

switch) alone in the vehicle.
To open

NOTE
The sunroof stops just before reaching the
fully open position. If the vehicle is driven
with the sunroof in this position, wind buf-
feting is lower than with the sunroof fully
open.

Press the switch (3), the sunroof automati- cally closes.To stop the moving sunroof, press the switch. When the switch (2) is pressed, the rear edge of sunroof raises for ventilation. Press the switch (3).

the “ACC” or “LOCK” position. However, once the driver’s door or the front passenger’sdoor is opened, the sunroof cannot be oper- ated until the ignition switch is turned on again.

If a hand or head is trapped in the closingsunroof opening, the safety mechanism willcause the sunroof to re-open automatically. The opened sunroof will become operational again after a few seconds.If the safety mechanism is activated 5 or more times consecutively, normal closing of the sunroof will be aborted.As an emergency measure, the sunroof can beclosed in small increments until it is com- pletely closed by repeatedly pressing the switch (2).After performing the emergency measure, consult an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.

NOTE
 The safety mechanism can be activated if the driving conditions or other circumstances cause the sunroof to be subjected to a physi-cal shock similar to that caused by a trapped hand or head.WA R N I N G The safety mechanism is deactivated while the switch (2) is pressed continuously. Therefore be especially careful that handsor head are not trapped in the sunroof opening.
 Do not deliberately trap your hands or head in order to activate the safety mecha- nism. Personal injury and malfunction of the sunroof could result.CAUTION The safety mechanism is deactivated just before the sunroof closes. This allows the sunroof to close completely. Therefore be especially careful that fingers are not trappedin the sunroof opening.NOTE
 When leaving the vehicle unattended, be sure to close the sunr
oof and if a key was
used to start the engine, remove the key from the ignition switch.  Do not try to operate the sunroof if it is fro- zen closed (after snowfall or during extreme cold).  Do not sit on or place heavy luggage on the sunroof or roof opening edge.  Do not apply any force that may cause dam- age to the sunroof.  Release the switch when the sunroof has reached a completely open or completely closed position.WA R N I N G

To park the vehicle, first bring it to a com- plete stop, fully engage the parking brake,and then move the gearshift lever to 1st (on a uphill) or “R” (Reverse) (on a downhill) posi- tion, for vehicles with a manual transaxle orset the gearshift lever to “P” (PARK) position on Twin Clutch SST vehicles.
 If the sunroof does not operate when the sun- roof switch is operated, release the switch and check whether something is trapped by the sunroof. If nothing is trapped, have the sunroof checked at an authorized MitsubishiMotors dealer.  Be careful when tilting
up the sunroof if a ski
carrier or a roof carrier is installed. Depend- ing on the model of ski car
rier or roof carrier,
the sunroof may contact the carrier when thesunroof is tilted up.  Be sure to close the sunroof completely when washing the vehicle or when leaving the vehicle.  Do not put any wax on the weatherstrip (black rubber) around the sunroof opening. If it is waxed, the weatherstrip cannot maintaina weatherproof seal with the sunroof.  After washing the vehicle or after rain be sure to wipe off any water that is on the sun- roof before operating it.  Operating the sunroof repeatedly with the engine turned off will run down the battery. Operate the sunroof only while the engine isrunning.NOTE
Sunshade

CAUTION Do not attempt to close the sunshade when the sunroof is opened. Be careful that hands are not trapped when closing the sunshade.NOTE
 Be sure to tilt down the sunroof before clos- ing the sunshade.
Parking brake To apply 1- Pull the lever up without pushing the
button at the end of hand grip. When the parking brake is set and the ignition switch is in the “ON” position, the brake warning light in the instru-ment cluster will come on. Before driving, be sure to release the parking brake.

When parking on a hill, apply the parking brake and turn the front wheels toward thecurb on a downhill grade, away from the curb on an uphill grade.

To adjust the steering wheel height, releasethe tilt lock lever while holding the steering wheel by hand, and raise or lower the steeringwheel to the desired height. After adjustment, securely lock the lever by pulling it upward.
To release 1- Pull the lever up slightly. 2- Press and hold the button at the end of
the hand grip.
3- Push the lever downward.
CAUTION Before driving, be sure that the parking brake is fully released and brake warning light is off. If you drive without the parking brake fully released, the warning display will appear onthe information screen in the multi-informa- tion display. If a vehicle is driven without releasing theparking brake, the brakes will be overheated, resulting in ineffective braking and possible brake failure. Warning light Warning display
Steering wheel tilt lock lever
1- Locked 2- ReleasedWA R N I N G After adjusting, make sure the lock lever is secured in the locked (1) position.  Do not attempt to adjust the steering wheel while driving. This can be danger- ous. When releasing the tilt lock lever {moving it to the position (2)}, be sure to hold thesteering wheel firmly. Otherwise, the steering wheel may slip down too sud- denly.

view mirror only after

clear view to the rear of the vehicle. Adjust the inside mirror to maximize the view through the rear window.
It is possible to move
the mirror up and down
to adjust its position. It is possible to move the mirror up/down and left/right to adjust its position.
The day/night knob (A) at the bottom of the mirror can be used to adjust the mirror toreduce the glare from the headlights of vehi-cles behind you during night driving.

Adjust the outside rearview mirrors only aftermaking any seat adjustments so you have aclear view to the rear of the vehicle.
The outside rearview mirrors can be adjusted when the ignition switch is in the “ON” or “ACC” position.Move the lever (A) to the same side as the mirror you wish to adjust. Press the switch (B) to adjust the mirror posi- tion.

Outside rearview mirrors
WA R N I N G Do not attempt to adjust the outside rear- view mirrors while driving. This can be dangerous. Be sure to adjust the mirrors before driv-ing. Your passenger’s side mirror is convex. The objects you see in the mirror will look smaller and farther away than theyappear in a regular flat mirror. Do not use this mirror to estimate the dis- tance of vehicles following you whenchanging lanes.

The outside mirror can be folded in toward the side window to prevent damage whenparking in tight locations.

When the rear window defogger switch ispressed with the engine running, the outsiderearview mirrors are defogged or defrosted. Current will flow through the heater element inside the mirrors, thus clearing away frost orcondensation.
The indicator light (A) will illuminate while the defogger is on. The heater will be turned off automatically in about 20 minutes.

The engine is off and the steering wheel is locked. The key can be inserted and removedonly when the switch is in this position. Allows operation of electrical accessories with the engine off. The engine runs and all accessories can be used.

Engages the starter. After the engine starts, release the key and it will return automati-cally to the “ON” position.

After about 30 minutes has elapsed with theignition switch in the “ACC” position, the function automatically cuts out the power for the audio system and other electric devicesthat can be operated with that position. When the ignition switch is turned from “ACC” to the “ON” position, the power issupplied again to those devices.

For vehicles with a manual transaxle, whenremoving the key, push the key in at the“ACC” position and keep it depressed until it is turned to the “LOCK” position, and remove. For vehicles with a Twin Clutch SST, when removing the key, first set the gearshift leverto the “P” (PARK) position, and then turn the key to the “LOCK” position and remove it.

 Your vehicle is equipped with an electronic immobilizer. To start the engine, the ID code which the transponder inside the key sendsmust match the one registered to the immobi- lizer computer. (Refer to “Electronic immobilizer” on page5-4.)
ACC power auto-cutout func- tion

 It is possible to modify functions as follows:
• The time until the power cuts out can be changed to about 60 minutes. • The ACC power auto-cutout function can be deactivated. For details, consult a Mitsubishi Motors dealer.

 For vehicles with a Twin Clutch SST, the key cannot be removed unless the gearshift lever is set to the “P” (PARK) position, whichallows the ignition switch to turn to the “LOCK” position.CAUTION Do not remove the ignition key from the ignition switch while driving. The steering wheel will lock, causing loss of control. If the engine is turned off while driving, the power brake booster will stop functioning and braking efficiency will be reduced. Also,the power steering system will not function and it will require greater effort to manually steer the vehicle. Do not leave the key in the “ON” position for a long time when the engine is not running.This will cause the battery to run down.Twin Clutch SST
