*2: Use this time as a guide because the rated AC voltage and the rated current value may differ from country to country.Alternately, the drive battery can be almost fully charged by turning on the battery charge switch while the vehicle is running
or stopping.
Refer to “Battery charge switch” on pages 7-23.
E08300101037
There are two types of batteries installed inyour vehicle: a drive battery for operating themotor (electric motor unit) and air condition-ing as well as an auxiliary battery for startingthe Plug-in Hybrid EV system and operatingthe lamps, wipers, etc. This chapter explains charging of the drivebattery.
E08300201070
Normal charging is performed through the onboard charger using rated AC 240 V outlet asthe power source
Battery
NOTE
zThe auxiliary battery is automaticallycharged while the ready indicator is illumi-nated or during charge for the drive battery.Refer to “Ready indica
tor” on page 6-37.
zIf the auxiliary battery is flat, the Plug-inHybrid EV system cannot be started.Refer to “Emergency starting” on page 9-2.

always use an outlet
protected by a residual current detector, rated for amperage equal to or greaterthan the value specified by MITSUBISHIMOTORS, and that is connected to a dedi-cated branch circuit. If the circuit isshared, and another electrical device isbeing used at the same time the vehicle ischarging, the breaker may trip and thecircuit may cause adverse interference onMCB (Moulded Circui
t Board) and house-
hold electrical appliances such as TVs andaudio systems. zIt is possible to charge even in rain orsnow. However, be sure to pay attention tothe following:

5. Insert the charging cable plug into an out-let.
6. Remove the cap (E) on the normal chargeconnector (F) and make sure that there isno foreign matter such as dust at the endof the normal charge connector and thenormal charge port.
WA R N I N G zMake sure that the plug is inserted all theway into the outlet before use. If chargingis continued in the state where it is notfully inserted the plug, there is a possibil-ity of generating abnormal heat andresulting in a fire. zTo p r e v e n t a n e l e c t r i c s h o c k o r f i r e d u e t oelectric current leak, perform chargingusing a waterproofed outlet with earthingwhich is connected to an earth leakage cir-cuit breaker.

zAlways use an earthed outlet protected bya residual current detector, rated foramperage equal to or greater than thevalue specified by MITSUBISHIMOTORS, and that is connected to a dedi-cated branch circuit. If the circuit isshared, and another el
ectrical device is
being used at the same time the vehicle ischarging, the circuit may heat abnormally, the breaker may trip and the circuit maycause adverse interference on the house-hold electrical appliances such as televi-sions and audio systems. zUse the rated AC 240 V rated outlet indi-vidually. If a multi plug adapter is con-nected and used with the EV chargingcable together with other devices, the out-let may overheat, resulting in a fire. zUse an outlet for EV charging whichwaterproofing processing is carried out ifthe installed position
is outdoors or may
get wet by rain etc.CAUTION zUse the outlet that is installed approx. 1meter above the ground. If the outlet positionis too low, the control box may touch theground, which may lead to troubles such assubmersion in water or getting trampled on.WA R N I N G

3- Emergency keyWA R N I N G zWhen carrying a key on flights, do notpress any switches on
the key while on the
plane. If a switch is pressed on the plane, the key emits electromagnetic waves, which could adversely affect the plane’sflight operation. When carrying a key in
a bag, be careful
that no switches on
the key can be easily
pressed by mistake.
NOTE
zThe key is a precision electronic part with abuilt-in signal transmitter. Please observe thefollowing in order to prevent a malfunction.•Do not leave anywhere
that is exposed to
direct sunlight, for example on the dash-board.•Do not disassem
ble or modify.
•Do not excessively bend the key or subjectit to a strong impact.•Do not expose to water.•Keep away from magnetic key rings.•Keep away from audio systems, personalcomputers, TVs, and any other equipmentthat generates a magnetic field.•Keep away from devices that emit strongelectromagnetic waves, such as cellularphones, wireless de
vices and high fre-
quency equipment (i
ncluding medical
devices).• Do not wash with ultrasonic cleaners orsimilar equipment.•Do not leave the key where it may beexposed to high temperature or high humid-ity.
zThe plug-in hybrid EV system is designed sothat it will not start if the ID code registeredin the immobiliser computer and the key’s IDcode do not match. Refer to the section enti-tled “Electronic immobiliser” for details andkey usage.
z[For vehicles equipped with the securityalarm system]Pay attention to the following if the securityalarm is set to “Active”.Refer to “Security alarm system” on page4-24.•If the security alarm is in the system armedmode, the alarm will
sound if the doors are
opened after being unl
ocked with the key,
the inside lock knob or the central door lockswitch.•Even if the security alarm is set to“Active”, the system preparation mode isnot entered if the keyless entry system orthe keyless operation

The driver’s seat and front passenger’s seateach have a seat belt equipped with a pre-ten-sioner system and
force limiter system.
E00405802259
When the operation mode of the powerswitch is in ON, if there is a frontal impact ora side impact severe enough to injure theand/or front passenger, the pre-tensioner sys-tem will retract their respective seat beltsinstantaneously, thus maximizing the seatbelt’s effectiveness.
E00405900360
The same warning lamp/display is shared bythe SRS airbags and the pre-tensioner seatbelts.Refer to “SRS warning lamp/display” onpage 5-30 .
Pregnant women restraint
WA R N I N G zSeat belts work for everyone, includingpregnant women. Pregnant women shoulduse the available seat belts. This willreduce the likelihood of injury to both thewoman and the unborn child. The lap beltshould be worn across the thighs and assnug against the hips as possible, but notacross the waist. Consult your doctor ifyou have any addition

the vicinity of the pre-tensioner seat belts orfloor console must be
performed in line with
MITSUBISHI MOTORS
guidelines. It is
important to do so because the work couldaffect the pre-tensioner systems. zIf you need to scrap the vehicle, please con-sult a MITSUBISHI MOTORS AuthorisedService Point. It is important to do so because unexpectedactivation of the pre-tensioner seat beltscould cause injuries.NOTE
zThe pre-tensioner seat belts will be activatedif the vehicle suffers a severe impact, even ifthe seat belts are not worn. zThe pre-tensioner seat belts are designed towork only once. After the pre-tensioner seatbelts have been activated, we recommendyou have it replaced by a MITSUBISHIMOTORS Authorised Service Point.
