The hill start assist makes it easy to start offon a steep uphill slope by preventing thevehicle from moving backwards. It keeps thebraking force for about 2 seconds when youmove your foot from the brake pedal to theaccelerator pedal.

1. Stop the vehicle completely using thebrake pedal.2. Move the selector lever to the “D” posi-tion.3. Release the brake pedal and the hill startassist will maintain the braking forceapplied while stopping for approximately2 seconds.4. Depress the accelerator pedal and the hillstart assist gradually will decrease thebraking force as the vehicle starts moving.

regenerative brake
becomes weak with close to full charge ofthe drive battery and loses its effect at thefull charge.In this case, since the
foot brake is effective,

Hill start assist
CAUTIONzDo not overly rely on the hill start assist toprevent backwards movement of the vehicle.Under certain circumstances, even when hillstart assist is activated, the vehicle maymove backwards if the brake pedal is not suf-ficiently depressed, if the vehicle is heavilyloaded, or if the road is very steep or slip-pery.
zThe hill start assist is not designed to keepthe vehicle stopped in place on uphill slopesfor more than 2 seconds.zWhen facing uphill, do not rely on using thehill start assist to maintain a stopped positionas an alternative to depressing the brakepedal.Doing so could cause an accident.zDo not turn the operation mode in ACC orOFF while the hill start assist is operating.The hill start assist could stop operating,which could result in an accident.

zWhen the select position is other than“D”.zWhen the parking brake is engaged.zWhen the ACC is self-cancelled becausethe system determines that its perfor-mance has declined and it cannot operatetemporarily due to the following situa-tions, the driver is informed by a buzzerand an indication on the screen.•Under adverse weather conditions (rain,snow, sand storms, etc.)•When the sensor is dirty or blocked bysnow and ice.•When a preceding or oncoming vehiclesplashes water, snow, or sand in front ofthe sensor.•The brake pads are overheating.•When you are driving in light traffic withfew vehicles and obstacles in front.
When the ACC returns to normal opera-tion, the indicator is cancelled. If the indi-cator continues, there may be a fault in thesystem. Please contact a MITSUBISHIMOTORS Authorised Service Point.zWhen some problem occurs with the sys-tem. (In this situation, the ACC control isautomatically cancelled and the system isturned off. You are alerted to this situationby the sound of a buzzer and a message onthe display. If the message remains dis-played even after setting the operationmode to “ON”, please contact a MIT-SUBISHI MOTORS Authorised ServicePoint.)
zWhen some other condition which causesthe control to terminate occurs. (This situ-ation may indicate a fault. Turn off theACC and please contact a MITSUBISHIMOTORS Authorised Service Point.)
Press the “ACC ON/OFF” switch when theACC is in the ‘ON state’ to turn off the ACC.
WA R N I N GzAlthough the set speed driving will bedeactivated when shifting to the “N”(NEUTRAL) position, never move theselector lever to the “N” (NEUTRAL)position while regenerative braking andcould cause a serious accident.

zDo not drive on a flooded road. If youdrive on a flooded road, not only the Plug-in Hybrid EV System stops but also a fail-ure like electric leakage or short circuitmay occur.If you inevitably had to run on a floodedroad and the vehicle was exposed towater, be sure to have your vehicleinspected by a MITSUBISHI MOTORSAuthorised Service Point.zIf there is water on the brakes after driv-ing through puddles or washing the vehi-cle, resulting in temporarily ineffectivebrakes. In such cases, lightly depress thebrake pedal to see if the brakes operateproperly. If they do not, lightly depressthe pedal several times while driving inorder to dry the brake pads.zWhen driving in rain or on a road withmany puddles a layer of water may formbetween the tyres and the road surface.This reduces a tyre’s frictional resistanceon the road, resulting in loss of steeringstability and braking capability.To c o p e w i t h t h i s , o b s e r v e t h e f o l l o w i n gitems:
zWhen driving on a snow-covered or fro-zen road, it is recommended that you usesnow tyres or snow traction device (tyrechains).Refer to the “Snow tyres” and “Snowtraction device (tyre chains)” sections.zAv o i d h i g h - s p e e d o p e r a t i o n , s u d d e nacceleration, abrupt brake application andsharp cornering.zDepressing the brake pedal during travelon snowy or icy roads may cause tyreslippage and skidding. When tractionbetween the tyres and the road is reducedthe wheels may skid and the vehicle can-not readily be brought to a stop by con-ventional braking techniques. Brakingwill differ, depending upon whether youhave anti-lock brake system (ABS). Asyour vehicle is equipped with ABS, brakeby pressing the brake pedal hard, andkeeping it pressed.zAllow extra distance between your vehi-cle and the vehicle in front of you, andavoid sudden braking.
zAccumulation of ice on the braking sys-tem can cause the wheels to lock. Pullaway from a standstill slowly after con-firming safety around the vehicle.
Drive as slow as possible when driving onbumpy or rutted roads.This vehicle is intended for driving mainlyon roads with firm surface.4WD system makes possible driving on roadswithout special coverage, on flat and firmsurface. Please, remember that off-road abil-ity of your vehicle is limited. Your vehicle isnot intended for driving in heavy off-road,overcoming the rugged terrain, deep ruts, etc.
On a flooded road (a)Drive your vehicle at a slow speed.(b)Do not drive on worn tyres.
(c)Always maintain the specified tyre infla-tion pressures.
On a snow-covered or frozen road
CAUTIONzDo not press the accelerator pedal rapidly. Ifthe wheels break free of the ice, the vehiclecould suddenly start
moving and possibly
cause an accident.
On a bumpy or rutted road
CAUTIONzThe impact on tyres and/or wheels whendriving on a bumpy or rutted road can dam-age the tyre and/or wheel.

The fluid level is monitored by a float. Whenthe fluid level falls below the “MIN” mark,the brake fluid warning lamp lights up.The fluid level falls slightly with wear of thebrake pads, but this does not indicate anyabnormality.The fluid in the master cylinder should bechecked when doing other work under the
bonnet. The brake system should also bechecked for leaks at the same time.If the fluid level falls markedly in a shortlength of time, it indicates leaks from thebrake system.If this occurs, we recommend you to have thevehicle checked.Use brake fluid conforming to DOT3 orDOT4 from a sealed container. The brakefluid is hygroscopic. Too much moisture inthe brake fluid will adversely affect the brakesystem, reducing the performance.

The condition of the auxiliary battery is veryimportant for quick starting of the plug-inhybrid EV system and proper functioning ofthe vehicle’s electrical system. Regularinspection is especially important in coldweather. Be sure to have a MITSUBISHIMOTORS Authorized Service Point checkthe auxiliary battery.
