zIt is the battery to operate the motor andthe air conditioning.In addition to the drive battery, OutlanderPHEV has the auxiliary battery to operatelamps, wipers, etc.zCompact, light-weight lithium ion batterywith high energy density is used for thedrive battery.zThe drive battery has the following char-acteristics.Please read this carefully paying attentionto the following:zThe same as ordinary lithium-ion batter-ies, the battery capacity of the drive bat-tery gradually reduces with time, resultingin reduced cruising range. Depending onthe usage conditions, such as frequentquick acceleration/deceleration,extremely hot weather, storing the vehiclein high ambient temperatures, etc., therate of battery capacity drop will increase.

fuel system parts, observe the followinginstructions:•Run the engine by pressing the batterycharge switch at least once in 3 months.Refer to “Battery charge switch” on page7-23.• Refuel 20 litres or more of fuel every 6months (to make the total refueling amountin 6 months be 20 litres or more).

Filling the fuel tank
WA R N I N GzWhen handling fuel, comply with thesafety regulations displayed by garagesand filling stations.zGasoline is highly flammable and explo-sive. You could be burned or seriouslyinjured when handling it. When refuelingyour vehicle, always
put the operation
mode of the power switch in OFF andkeep away from flames, sparks, and smok-ing materials. Always handle fuel in well-ventilated outdoor areas.zBefore removing the fuel cap, be sure toget rid of your body’s static electricity bytouching a metal part of the car or fuelpump. Any static electricity on your bodycould create a spark that ignites fuelvapor.
zPerform the whole refueling process(opening the fuel tank filler door, remov-ing the fuel cap, etc.) by yourself. Do notlet any other person come near the fueltank filler. If you allowed a person to helpyou and that person was carrying staticelectricity, fuel vapor could be ignited.zDo not perform chargi
ng and refueling at
the same time. If you charged with staticelectricity, fuel vapor could be ignited bythe discharge spark.zDo not move away from the fuel tank filleruntil refueling is finished. If you movedaway and did something else (for example,sitting on a seat) part-way through therefueling process, you could pick up afresh charge of st
atic electricity.

It can be used when increasing the remainingquantity of the drive battery.Use the battery charge switch before drivingat long up hills, such as mountains with asteep slope.By charging the drive battery before driving,it becomes possible to continue hill-climbingperformance (driving force).
If the battery charge switch is pressed whilethe READY indicator is on, the engine willstart and it can charge the drive battery tonear the full charge during the vehicle is runand stopped.It can be canceled, if it press once again. When the battery save switch is turned onwhile driving in the battery charge mode, themode changes to the battery save mode.If the battery charge switch is pressed, themode is returned to the battery charge mode.

The Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System(AVAS) is device that uses sound to alertpedestrians of the presence of the vehicle.The system operates when the vehicle speedis about 35 km/h or less and the engine is notrunning.The sound starts when the AVAS is operatedwith the following conditions.zWhen the vehicle speed is about 3 km/h orless with engine not running and the brakepedal is not depressed.
zSince the engine will start also in the vehi-cle stops if the batt
ery charge switch is
pressed, do not use it for the around of thegarage or the vehicle
in the situation such
