Adjusting the display and warning tones
Applies to vehicles: with rear park assist/Audi parking sys­
tem plus with rearview camera/front- and rearview cam­
era
The display* and warning tones can be ad­
justed in the MMI.
~ Select: ICARI function button> Systems*
control button > Parking system. Or
~ Select: ICARI function button> Car systems*
control button > Driver assist> Parking aid.
Display*
- Off -when the parking system is switched
off, only audible signals are given.
-On -when the parking system is switched
on, either the visua l display or the picture
from the rearview camera is disp layed.
Warning tones
- Front volume* -front sensor volume
- Front frequency* -front sensor frequency
- Rear volume -rear sensor volume
- Rear frequency -rear sensor frequency
- In-car entertainment fader/Music volume
while parking -when the parking system is
switched on, the volume of the active audio
source is lowered.
The new ly adjusted value is briefly heard from
the signal generator .
(D Tips
- The warning tones can also be adjusted
direct ly by the visual disp lay* or the pic­
ture from the camera*. Simply press the
Settings* control button.
- Changed settings are activated when
parking system is switched on again.
- The settings are automatically stored
and assigned to the remote control key

Error messages
Applies to vehicles: with
rear park assist/Audi parking sys­
tem plus with rearview camera/front- and rearview cam­
era
There is an error in the system if the LED in
the~ button* is blinking and you hear a con­
tinuous alarm for a few seconds after switch­ ing on the park ing system or when the park­
ing system is already activated .
If the error is
not corrected before you switch off the igni­
tion, when you switch on the parking system
again, the LED in the ~ button* will blink. If
you activate the parking system with the but­
ton in this case, the continuous warning tone
will continue to sound.
Parking system plus with front and
rearview camera*
There is another system error if:
- the~·· symbol appears in the display and
the corresponding display area is shown in
blue. The camera is not working in this area.
- all segments around the vehicles are red or
if no segments are displayed.
Drive to your authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized repa ir facility immediately to have
the malfunction corrected .
Trailer hitch
Applies to vehicles: with rear park assist/Audi parking sys­
tem plus with rearview camera/front- and rearview cam­
era and trailer hitch
For vehicles using the trailer socket, the park­
ing system rear sensors do not turn on when
you shift into reverse gear or when you press
the~ button*. This results in the follow ing
restrictions:
Rear park assist*
There is no warning for distances to the rear.
Audi parking system plus with rearview
camera/front and rearview camera*
There is no distance warning for the rear. The
front sensors remain activated. The visual dis­ play switches to the trailer towing mode. The
rearview camera image will not show the ori-
entat ion lines and the blue surfaces . ..,.

emphasis on comfort are selected in this
mode.
- Automatic lowering : When a speed of
abo ut 75 mph (120 km/h) is exceeded for
more than 30 seconds, the vehicle is auto­
matically lowered by 0.6 inch (15 mm) to
low level .
-Automatic raising: The vehicle is automati­
ca lly raised to
normal level again, if the
speed falls below about 44 mph (70 km/h)
for a period of 2 minutes . The vehicle is
raised immediately when speed falls below
about 22 mph (35 km/h) .
Offroad
Select the offroad mode when you have to
travel over poor quality sections of road (e .g.
trails). In th is mode, the vehicle is raised to
high level 1, and damp ing characteristics for
poor road stretches are selected . When
sw itch ing to offroad mode, the Adaptive Air
Suspension indicator appears automat ically in
the instrument cluster display ¢
page 158.
The offroad mode can only be activated at
speeds below 37 mph (60 km/h) . Offroad
mode ends automatically and the automatic
mode is activated when a speed of approxi­
mately 50 mph (80 km/h) is exceeded.
Lift
Select the lift mode when except ionally high
ground clearance is needed at a reduced
speed. In this mode, the vehicle is raised to
high level 2. When switching to lift mode , the
Adaptive A ir Suspension indicator appears au­
tomatically in the instrument cluster display
¢ page 158.
The lift mode can be activated only at speeds
be low 12 mph (20 km/h) . When a speed of
about 25 mph (40 km/h) is exceeded, the sys­
tem automatically leaves lift mode and the
offroad mode is activated. The instrument
cluster display automat ically switches the dis­
play to Adaptive Air Suspens ion to indicate re­
duced ground clearance .

Driving modes are adjusted in the MMI and
the current vehicle level is displayed .

Raising and lowering
If the arrow (D ¢ fig. 186 is white or if the ar­
rows
(D blink ¢ fig. 187, the vehicle is being
raised .
If the arrow @i=>
fig. 186 is white or if the ar­
rows
(D point downward and blink ¢ fig. 187,
the vehicle is being lowered .
The respective arrow stays on/blinks until the
level change is complete . The time used for a
level change can vary, depending on the cur­
rent driving conditions .
Displaying the vehicle level
The c urrent vehicle level is shown with seg­
ments filled out in the segment display@. If
only the bottom segment is filled o ut, the ve-
hicle is at highway level. If all segments are

fi lled out, the vehicle is at high level 2 and has
the greatest amount of ground clearance pos­
sib le.
While the vehicle is being raised or lowered,
the target level is indicated by an arrow@
c::> fig. 186 or a white border @ c::> fig. 187 . The
arrow/border disappears aga in when the vehi­
cle is at the target level.
Limitations to MMI s etting s
Please note that not eve ry dr iving mode can
be selected in every d riving situation . For ex­
ample, it is not possible to switch to "lift"
mode at speeds above 12 mph (20 km/h) .
This mode is then shown
greyed out in the
MMI Display.
The vehicle can only be lowered when
all of
the vehicle's doors are closed. If one door is
open, all driving modes whose level sett ing is
belo w the current vehicle level appear
greyed
out
i n the MMI Display. If a door is opened
while the veh icle is being lowered, the lower­
ing p rocess is interrupted u ntil all doors are
closed again .
If the system is temporar ily unava ilable due
to, for instance, an empty compressed air
tank, the driving modes that cannot be set ap­ pear
greyed out in the MM I Disp lay. As soon
as the system is available again, the driv ing
modes can once more be selected in the dis­
p lay .

- When the compressed air tank is empty,
the compressor c an be switched on by
starting the engine . The Adaptive Air
Suspension is once again available, after

pension is once again available, after

Please remember -safety first!
This chapter contains important information,
tips, instructions and warnings that you need
to read and observe for your own safety, the
safety of your passengers and others . We have
summarized here what you need to know
about safety belts, a irbags, ch ild restra ints as
well as child safety. Your safety is for us
priori­
ty number 1.
Always observe the info rmat ion
and warn ings in th is sect ion -fo r yo ur own
safety as well as that of your passengers .
The information in this se ction app lies to all
model ve rsions of your veh icle . Some of the
feat ures desc ribed in this sec tions may be
standard equipment on some models, or may
be optional equipment on others . If you are
not sure, ask your authorized Aud i dealer.
A WARNING
- Always make sure that you follow the in­
struct ions and heed the WARNINGS in
this manual. It is in your interest and in
the inte rest of you r passengers.
- Always keep all of the Owner's Literature
man uals in your Audi when you lend or
sell your veh icle so that this impo rtant
information will a lways be availab le to

Safety equipment
The safety features are part of the occupant
restraint system and work together to help
redu ce the risk of injury in a wide variety of
accident situations.
Your safety and the safety of you r passenge rs
should not be left to chance. Advances in
technology have made a varie ty o f fea tures
avai la bl e to he lp re duce the risk of inj ury in an accident
. The following is a list of just a few of
the safety features in your Audi:

These individual safety features, can work to­ gether as a system to he lp protect you and
your passengers in a wide range of accidents .
These features cannot work as a system if
they are not always correctly adjusted and cor­ rectly used .

Important things to do before driving
Safety is everybody 's job! Vehicle and occu­
pant safety always depends on the informed
and careful driver.
Fo r yo ur safety and the safety of your passen­
gers,
before driving always:
.. Ma ke s ure t hat all lights and sign als are op ­
erati ng correctly .
.. Make s ure t hat the tire pressure is correct.
.. Make s ure that all windows are clean and af­
ford good vis ibility to the outs ide.
.. Secure all luggage and other items carefu lly

What impairs driving safety?
Safe driving is directly related to the condi­
tion of the vehicle, the driver as well as the
driver's ability to concentrate on the road
without being distracted.
The driver is respons ible for the safety of the
vehicle and a ll of its occupants . If your ability
to drive is impaired, safety risks for everybody
in the vehicle increase and you also become a
hazard to everyone else on the road

Therefore:
.. Do not let yoursel f be distracted by passen­
gers or by using a cellular telephone .
.. NEVER drive when your driving ability is im­
paired (by medications, alcohol, drugs, etc.).
.. Observe all traffic laws, rules of the road
and speed limits and plain common sense .
.,. ALWAYS adjust your speed to road, traff ic
and weather cond it ions .
.. Take frequent breaks on long t rips. Do not
drive for more than two hours at a stretc h.
.. Do NOT drive when you are t ired , under
pressure or when you are stressed .
A WARNING
Impaired driving safety increases the risk
of serious personal injury and death when­
ever a veh icle is being used.

Proper seating position for the driver
The proper driver seating position is impor­
tant for safe, relaxed driving.

For your own safety and to reduce the risk of
injury in the event of an accident, we recom­
mend that you adjust the driver's seat to the
follow ing pos ition:
.. Adjust the driver's seat so that you can easi ­
ly push the pedals all the way to the floor
wh ile keeping your knee(s) slightly bent

.. Adjust the angle of the seatback so that it is
in an upr ight position so that your back
comes in full contact with it when you drive .
.. Adjust the steering wheel so that th ere is a
distance of at least 10 inches (25 cm) be­
tween the steering wheel and yo ur breast

.. Adjust the steering wheel so that the steer­
ing wheel and airbag cover points at your
chest and not at your face.

is as even as possible with the top of your
head. If that is not poss ible, try to adjust
the head restraint so that it is as close to
this position as possible .

A WARNING
All seats are equipped with head re­
straints. Dr iv ing without head restraints or
w ith head restra ints tha t are not properly
adjusted incre ases the risk of ser io us or fa­
t al neck injury dramat ically. To help reduce
the risk of inju ry:
- Always drive with the he ad restraints in
place and proper ly adjusted.
- E very pe rson in the veh icle must have a
properly ad justed head restra int .
- Alw ays m ake su re e ach pe rso n i n the ve­
hicle proper ly adjusts the ir head re­
st raint . Ad just the head restrain ts so the
upper edge is as even as possi ble wit h
the top of your head . If that is not possi­
ble, try to adjust the head restra int so
that it is as close to this position as pos­
sible .
- Never attempt to adjust head rest raint
wh ile driving. If you have driven off and
must adjust the dr ive r head rest for any
reason, first stop the vehicle safe ly be­
fore attempting to adjust the head re­
s t rain t.
- Children must always be properly re­
stra ined in a ch ild restrai nt tha t is appro­
pr iate for their age a nd s ize

Examples of improper seating positions
The occupant restraint system can only re­
duce the risk of injury if vehicle occupants are
properly sea ted.
Imp roper sea ting posit ions can ca use serio us
in ju ry or death . Safe ty belts can on ly work when they are properly positioned on the
body. Improper seating positions red uce the
effectiveness of safety belts and wi ll even in ­
crease the r isk of injury and death by moving
the safety belt to crit ica l areas of the body.
Improper seating positions a lso inc rease the
risk of ser ious in jury and death when an a ir­
bag dep loys and str ikes an occupant w ho is
not in the p roper seating posi tion. A dr iver is
responsible fo r the s afety of all ve hicle occu­
pan ts and espec ially for child ren . There fore :
• Never allow anyone to assume an incor rect
seating posi tion when the vehicle is bei ng
used

- never lie down on the rear seat
- neve r lean up against the instrument panel

- never put your feet on the instrument panel

back of the seat
- never ride in the footwell

pants stay in a proper seating position

- After closing the rear lid, always make
sure that it is properly closed and locked.
- Never leave your vehicle unattended es­
pecially with the rear lid left open . A
child could crawl into the vehicle through
the luggage compartment and close the
rear lid becoming trapped and unable to
get out . Be ing trapped in a vehicle can
lead to serious persona l injury .
- Never let children play in or around the vehicle .
- Never let passengers r ide in the luggage
compartment . Veh icle occupants must
always be properly restrained in one of
the vehicle's seating positions.
(D Tips
- Air c irculation helps to reduce window
fogging . Sta le air escapes to the outside
th rough vents in the trim pane l. Be sure
to keep these slots free and open .
-The t ire pressure must correspond to the
load. The t ire pressure is shown on the
tire p ress ure label. The tire pressure la­
bel is located on the d river's s ide B-pi llar.
The t ire pressure label lists the recom­
mended cold tire inflat ion pressures for
the vehicle at its maximum capacity
weight and the tires that were on your
vehicle at the time it was manufactured .

mal load conditions, please see chapter
c:> page277 .
Tie-downs
The luggage compartment is equipped with
four tie-downs to secure luggage and other
items .
Use the tie-downs to secure your cargo prop­
erly

partment.
In a coll is ion, the l aws of phys ics mean that
even smaller items that are loose in the vehi­
cle will become heavy missiles that can cause

serious injury. Items in the veh icle possess en ­
ergy which vary with vehicle speed and th e
weight of the item . Vehicle speed is the most
s ignificant factor.
For example, in a fronta l collision at a speed
of 30 mph (48 km/h), the forces acting on a
10 -lb (5 kg) object are about 20 times the
normal weight of the item. This means th at
the weigh t of the item would suddenly be
about 200 lbs. (90 kg) . You can imagine the
i njur ies that a 200 lbs . (90 kg) item flying
freely th rough the passenger compartment
could cause in a co llision like this.
A WARNING
Weak, damaged or improper straps used
to secure items to tie-downs can fail dur­
ing hard braking or in a collision and cause
serious personal injury.
-Always use s uitable mount ing straps and
properly secu re items to the tie-downs in
the l uggage compartment to he lp pre­
vent items from shift ing or f lying fo r­
ward as dangerous missiles.
- When the rear seat backrest is folded
down, a lways use suitable mounting
straps and properly secure items to the
tie-downs in the luggage compartment
to help p revent items from fly ing for­
ward as dangerous missiles into the pas­
senger compartment .
- Never attach a chi ld safety seat tether
strap to a t ie-down .

General notes
Always wear safety belts!
Wearing safety belts correctly saves lives!
This chapter exp lains why safety be lts are nec ­
essary, how they work and how to adjust and
wear them correctly .
.. Read a ll the information that fo llows and
heed all of the instructions and WARNINGS.
A WARNING
Not wearing safety belts or wearing them
improperly increases the risk of ser ious
personal injury and death .
- Safety belts are the sing le most effective
means available to reduce the risk of se­
rious injury and death in automob ile acci­
dents . For your protection and that of
your passenge rs, always co rrectly wear
safety belts when the vehicle is moving .
- Pregnant women, injured, or physically
impaired persons must also use safety
belts. Like all veh icle occupants, they are
more like ly to be seriously injured if they
do not wear safety be lts . The best way to
protect a fetus is to protect the mother -
throughout the entire pregnancy.
Number of seats
V eh icles with fi ve seats: Your vehicle has two
front seats and three rear seats. Each seating
position has a safety belt .
Vehicle s with six seats:* Your vehicle has two
front seats, two seats in the second row and
two seats in the third row. Each seating posi­
tion has a safety belt.
Ve hicle s with sev en se ats:* Your vehicles has
two front seats, three seats in the second row
and two seats in the third row. Each seating position has a safety belt .
A WARNING
Not wearing safety belts or wear ing them
i mproperly increases the r isk of serious
personal injury and death.
- Never strap more than one person, in­
cluding small children, into any belt . It is
espec ially dangerous to p lace a safety
belt ove r a ch ild sitt ing on your lap.
- Never let more people ride in the vehicle
than there are safety belts available .
- Be sure everyone riding in the vehicle is
properly restrained w ith a separate safe­
ty belt or child restra int.
Safety belt warning light
Your vehicle has a warning system for the
driver and front seat passenger (on USA mod­
els only) to remind you about the importance
of buckling-up.

Before dri ving off , alw ays:

are wearing it properly .
