These keys work in every lock.
Since the doors can be locked without a
key, you should always carry a spare key
in case you accidentally lock your key
inside the vehicle.KEY NUMBER PLATE
Your key number is shown on the plate.
Keep the plate in a safe place such as
your wallet, not in the vehicle.
If you should lose your keys or if you
need additional keys, duplicates can be
made by any authorized Toyota dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional, using the key num-
ber.
We recommend writing down the key num-
ber and storing it in a safe place.

LOCKING AND UNLOCKING WITH KEY
Insert the key into the keyhole and turn
it.
To lock: Turn the key forward.
To unlock: Turn the key backward.
Vehicles with a power door lock sys-
tem—All the doors lock and unlock simul-
taneously with the driver ’s door.LOCKING AND UNLOCKING WITH

Move the lock button.
To lock: Push the button downward.
To unlock: Pull the button upward.
If you want to lock the door from the
outside, push in the button before closing
the door. The outside door handle must be
held up while the front door is being
closed. Be careful not to lock your keys
in the vehicle.
Vehicles with a power door lock sys-
tem—All the doors lock and unlock simul-
taneously with the driver ’s door.
CAUTION
DBefore driving, be sure that the
doors are closed.
DIf the doors are left unlocked while
driving, they can be easily opened
from the outside in case of an acci-
dent.

The windows can be operated with the
switch on each front door.
The power windows work when the engine
switch is in the “ON” position.
OPERATING THE DRIVER’S WINDOW
Use the switch on the driver ’s door.
Normal operation:The window moves as
long as you hold the switch.
To open: Lightly push down the switch.
To close: Lightly pull up the switch.Automatic operation:Push the switch
completely down or pull it completely up,
and then release it. The window will fully
open or close. To stop the window part-
way, lightly move the switch in the oppo-
site direction and then release it.

OPERATING THE PASSENGER’S
WINDOW
Use the switch on the passenger ’s door
or the driver ’s door that controls the
passenger ’s window.
The window moves as long as you hold
the switch.
To open: Push down the switch.
To close: Pull up the switch.
If you push in the window lock switch on
the driver ’s door, the passenger ’s window
cannot be operated.
CAUTION
To avoid death or serious injury, you
must do the following.
DBefore you close the power win-
dows, always make sure there is
nobody around the power windows.
You must also make sure the
heads, hands and other parts of the
bodies of all occupants are kept
completely inside the vehicle. If
someone’s neck, head or hands get
caught in a closing window, it
could result in death or serious in-
jury. When anyone closes the power
windows, make sure he or she op-
erates the windows safely.
DWhen small children are in the ve-
hicle, never let them use the power
window switches without supervi-
sion. Use the window lock switch to
prevent them from making unex-
pected use of the switches.
DBe sure to remove the key from the
engine switch when you leave your
vehicle.
DNever leave anyone (particularly a
small child) alone in your vehicle,
especially with the key still in-
serted. Otherwise, he/she could use
the power window switches and get
trapped in a window. Unattended
person (particularly a small child)
can be involved in a serious acci-
dent.

Tailgate—single cab models

Side gates—single cab models
only
To lower the tailgate and side gates,
unlock the latches as shown.
On some models, the chains will hold the
tailgate in a straight open position.
See “Luggage stowage precautions” on
page 127 in Section 2 for precautions
when loading luggage.
When closing the gate, make sure it is
securely latched.
CAUTION
If the open tailgate hides the stop/tail
lights, back−up lights, rear retro re-
flectors, rear fog light or rear turn
signal lights while you are parked,
other road users must be warned of
the presence of your vehicle by a
warning triangle or other device.
NOTICE
Avoid driving with the tailgate or side
gates open.

1. To open the engine access hole cov-
er, release the latches and raise the
cover.
NOTICE
Always stow the cup holder in the
instrument panel before opening the
engine access hole cover. If this is
not done, the cover will hit the cup
holder and damage it. (See “Cup hold-
er” on page 110 in Section 1−9for
details.)
2. After lifting the cover up, hold it
open with the strap.
Before closing the engine access hole
cover, check to see that you have not
forgotten any tools, rags, etc.
CAUTION
DMake sure the strap supports the
engine access hole cover securely.
DAfter closing the cover, make sure
it is securely locked by pulling the
seat cushion upward.

Before tilting the cab, observe the fol-
lowing.
1. Park the vehicle on a level ground.
2. Set the parking brake firmly.
3. Put the transmission in neutral.
4. Stop the engine.
5. Remove or secure all the loose items
in the vehicle.
6. Close the doors.
CAUTION
Make sure that no one is around and
in the cab.
NOTICE
Make sure that there is no interfering
object on and in front of the cab.
