If a metal object makes a contact between the two battery terminals or between the battery + and the bodywork, this causes a short-circuit (risk of fi re and serious burns).
The battery releases minute quantities of hydrogen, a gas which is explosive under certain conditions. Never use a fl ame or create sparks close to the battery.
The battery contains dilute sulphuric acid which is highly corrosive:
When handling batteries, al-ways protect your face and especially your eyes.
In the event of any contact with the skin, rinse immedi-ately with copious amounts of fresh water.Refer to a CITROËN dealer for battery replacements.

Access to the battery
The battery is located in the engine compartment.
For access to it:
- open the bonnet using the interior release lever, then the exterior safety catch,
- fi x the bonnet stay in place,
- remove the plastic cover for access to the two terminals,
- if necessary, unclip the fusebox to remove the battery.
Emergency starting with a slave battery
A vehicle with a discharged battery can be started with either a slave battery or the battery of another vehicle.

It is essential to proceed strictly fol-lowing the sequence indicated.
Check that the emergency battery is correctly charged up (12 volts).
If you are using the battery on an-other vehicle, stop the engine of the assisting vehicle. The two vehicles must not come into direct contact with each other.
Never apply a fl ame or create sparks close to the battery (explosive gas).
The battery contains diluted sulphuric acid which is highly corrosive.
If ever you are handling the battery, protect your eyes and face.
In the event of any contact with the skin, rinse immediately with copious amounts of fresh water.
If the vehicle is not used for more than one month, it is recommended that the battery be disconnected.
Advice
Replace it with a battery of the same type (voltage, amp rating).
Do not touch the cable clamps during the procedure.
Do not lean over the batteries.
Disconnect the cables in the reverse order to connection, ensuring that they do not touch each other.
Connect the cables in the order indi-rdercated in the diagram. Make sure that the clamps are properly secured (risk of sparks).
Start the engine of the assisting ve-hicle. Let the engine run for about a minute at a slightly accelerated speed.
Start the engine of the assisted vehicle.
Note: For any repair necessitating a disconnection of the battery, it is essential to wait three minutes af-ter switching off the ignition and to avoid any action that could prevent the vehicle’s electrical circuit from changing to standby mode (such as opening and closing doors, using the remote control etc.).

Starting the engine for the fi rst time after disconnecting and connecting the battery:
- Turn the ignition key.
- Wait approx. one minute before actioning the starter, so as to allow the electronic systems to reinitialise.
Before disconnection
Before disconnecting the battery, wait 3 minutes after switching off the ignition, and close the windows and doors.
After disconnection
After the battery has been discon-nected for a long period, it may be necessary to re-initialise the follo-wing functions:
- Anti-pinch and sequential operation on the electric windows.
- Parameters of the multifunction display (date, time, language, units of distance and temperature).
- Radio stations.
- Navigation reception.
- Synchronisation of remote control.
- Central locking.
Certain adjustments will be can-celled: it is necessary to make them again.
Economy mode
In order not to discharge the bat-tery when the engine is stopped, your vehicle goes automatically into economy mode.
The electrical components relating to comfort and headlamps (not side-lamps or hazard warning lamps) are automatically cut.
To reactivate them, the engine must be run for:
- less than 10 minutes to have the systems available for an equivalent period.
- more than 10 minutes to keep them available for approximately 30 minutes.
Note: a starting economy mode message appears on the multi-function screen.

Towing (boat, caravan, etc.)
Before departure:
Check the tyre pressures of both car and trailer.
Check all the exterior and signalling lamps of the car and trailer.
Practice manoeuvring, especially reversing.
Grease the towing ball hitch regu-larly, and remove it when not towing for a long period.
Spread the load inside the caravan and keep within the towing weight limits.
Always drive at moderate speeds, changing down a gear in good time before hill climbs or descents. Be aware of the effect of side winds.
Braking distances are increased. Use the brakes gently and progres-sively. Avoid sudden braking.
If you have to park on an incline, make sure that the parking brake is fi rmly applied. Check that the tow hitch is fi rmly attached and, if neces-sary, chock the wheels of the trailer.
When towing, the fuel consumption will increase.

TOWINGRemovable towing ring
The towing ring is detachable and can be fi tted either at the front or at the rear of the vehicle. It is stowed in the jack’s protective holder in the spare wheel.
Advice
In exceptional circumstances, it is permitted to tow the vehicle at low speed over a short distance (in accordance with the local legislation in force).
In all other cases, the vehicle must be transported by a transporter.
CAUTION - TOWING A VEHICLE WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Put the selector lever in position N (neutral).
Towing a vehicle
If you are towing another vehicle, the latter should be out of gear (gearbox in neutral). Move the gear lever to neutral (position N for SensoDrive and automatic gearboxes).

Towing with all wheels on the ground
Towing ring fi xings are placed at the front and at the rear of the vehicle.
To access them:
- at the front: push on the left to tilt the cover, then remove it.
- at the rear: push at bottom, then pull on top.
The cover remains attached to the bumper by means of a tab, so t hat it cannot become lost.
The ignition key should be in position "M" so as to retain steering.
Use a bar with hooks to attach on the towing rings.
Vehicles with manual transmission
For vehicles with manual transmission, the gear lever must be in n eutral. Fail-ure to observe this requirement can lead to the failure of certain braking com-ponents and a lack of braking assistance on restarting the engi ne.
If the engine is not running, the steering and braking systems will not be power-assisted.
If towing another vehicle, the latter should be free-wheeling (that is, gearbox in neutral).

COLD WEATHER SCREEN "SNOW GUARD"
The screen supplied with the vehicle (depending on country) should be fi tted during the winter period. It is essential to remove it when temperatures are above 10 degrees Celsius.

On the dashboard
Two tweeters located at each end of the dashboard. Detach and pull the grille, connect the tweeters, fi t them on the grille, rotating them a quarter turn, reposition the grilles.
RADIO PRE-EQUIPMENT
Don’t forget to remove the cold weather screen:
- when the ambient temperature is above 10 °C,
- when towing,
- for speeds above 120 km/h (75 mph).
