TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR SYMPTOMS
Revision: November 20092006 QX56
Engine Speed Does Not Return to IdleECS00CKI
SYMPTOM:
When a shift-down is performed, the engine speed does not smoothly return to the idling speed.
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
1. CHECK A/T FLUID LEVEL
Check A/T fluid level. Refer to AT- 1 2 , "
Checking Automatic Trans-
mission Fluid (ATF)" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 2.
NG >> Refill ATF.
2. CHECK SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS
Perform self-diagnosis. Refer to AT- 8 6 , "
SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULT MODE" .
Do the self-diagnostic results indicate front brake solenoid valve, direct clutch solenoid valve, ATF pressure
switch 1, ATF pressure switch 5, accelerator pedal position sensor, vehicle speed sensor A/T (revolution sen-
sor) and vehicle speed sensor MTR?
YES >> Check the malfunctioning system. Refer to AT- 1 4 3 , "DTC P1757 FRONT BRAKE SOLENOID
VA LV E" , AT- 1 4 7 , "DTC P1762 DIRECT CLUTCH SOLENOID VALVE" , AT- 1 5 9 , "DTC P1841 ATF
PRESSURE SWITCH 1" , AT- 1 6 3 , "DTC P1845 ATF PRESSURE SWITCH 5" , AT- 1 2 4 , "DTC
P1705 THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR" , AT- 111 , "DTC P0720 VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR A/T
(REVOLUTION SENSOR)" , AT- 1 3 2 , "DTC P1721 VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR MTR" .
NO >> GO TO 3.
3. CHECK A/T FLUID CONDITION
1. Remove oil pan. Refer to AT- 2 3 0 , "
Control Valve With TCM and A/T Fluid Temperature Sensor 2" .
2. Check A/T fluid condition. Refer to AT- 5 1 , "
Fluid Condition
Check" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 4.
NG >> GO TO 7.
4. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
Check the malfunction items. If any items are damaged, repair or replace damaged parts. Refer to AT- 6 1 ,
"Symptom Chart" (Symptom No.65).
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 5.
NG >> Repair or replace damaged parts.

Oil PanECS00EPZ
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Removal
1. Drain A/T fluid. Refer to AT- 1 2 , "Changing Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)" .
2. Remove oil pan and gasket.
3. Check foreign materials in oil pan to help determine cause of malfunction. If the A/T fluid is very dark, has some burned smell, or contains foreign particles, friction material (clutches, band) may need replacement.
A tacky film that will not wipe clean indicates varnish build up. Varnish can cause valves, servo, and
clutches to stick and can inhibit pump pressure.
CAUTION:
If friction material is detected, flush the transmission cooler after repair. Refer to AT- 1 4 , "
A/T Fluid
Cooler Cleaning" .
4. Remove magnets from oil pan.
Installation
1. Install the oil pan magnets as shown.

CAUTION:
Do not disassemble parts behind drum support. Refer to AT- 1 7 , "
Cross-Sectional View (2WD models)"
or AT- 1 8 , "Cross-Sectional View (4WD models)" .
1. Drain ATF through drain plug.
2. Remove torque converter by holding it firmly and turing while pulling straight out.
3. Check torque converter one-way clutch using check tool as shown.
a. Insert check tool into the groove of bearing support built into one-way clutch outer race.
b. While holding bearing support with check tool, rotate one- way clutch spline using suitable tool.
c. Check that inner race rotates clockwise only. If not, replace torque converter assembly.
4. Remove converter housing from transmission case. CAUTION:
Be careful not to scratch converter housing.
