7EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEMS
4EGR SYSTEM
H020D01S-GAT
; For a diesel engine
All Hyundai vehicles are equipped with oxidation type catalytic converter to reduce the carbon monoxide, hy- drocarbons and particulate containedin the exhaust gas.
H020C01S-GAT
; For a diesel engine
This system helps control oxides ofnitrogen by recirculating a part of theexhaust gas into the engine.
Care must also be exercised to avoiddriving over road hazards or debriswhich may cause damage to the cata- lyst element.
Push or tow starting of the vehicle is to be avoided since unburnt fuel maybe enter the catalyst and result in damage. (Note, it is impossible to push or tow start a Hyundai modelequipped with fuel injection since the fuel pump safety interlock will prevent the pump from operating under theseconditions).Operation of the catalyst involvesextremely high temperatures beingattained within the catalytic conver- tor, and although the convertor is fitted with heat shields, it is importantthat the vehicle is not parked over combustible or volatile material which may result in fire.If the above precautions are not ad-hered to and the catalyst becomesinoperative, the resultant increase in core temperature will result in a "melt down" where the catalyst core willmelt and subsequently may block the exhaust system. Due to the fragile nature of the cata- lyst element, it is important that dam- age does not occur when the vehicle is raised by means of a garage jack.

ZI010C1-E The tyres supplied on your new Hyundai are chosen to provide the best perfor- mance for normal driving. I030A03A-EAT TYRE PRESSURES In modern high-speed motoring, correct tyre pressures are vitally important. Incorrect tyre pressures can affect ve-hicle safety by causing reduced adhe- sion, steering response and tyre failure through overheating. The tyre pressuremust only be checked when the tyres are cold. The correct tyre pressures are indicated on the label affixed in theglove box and below.I030A01A-D

I060A02A-EAT TYRE ROTATION Tyre wear will vary for each wheel. In order to increase the life of each tyre and keep wear uniform, tyre rotationshould be performed every 10,000 miles as shown in figure. NOTE:
o Do not include a steel wheel sparetyre when rotating aluminum al- loy wheel tyres.
o Do not mix bias-ply and radial-ply under any circumstances. Thismay cause dangerous handling characteristics. SI060A1-E TYRE BALANCING Incorrect tyre balance will cause steer- ing vibration and uneven tyre wear. Thevehicle tyres are balanced during pro- duction but may need further balancing throughout the life of the tyres. It is recommended that the tyres be balanced on the car for best results and that the tyres are balanced wheneverthey have been removed from the wheel for repair.
!
I050A01TB-EAT TYRE CHAINS Tyre chains, if necessary, should be installed on the front wheels. Be surethat the chains are installed in accor- dance with the manufacturer's instruc- tions. To minimize tyre and chain wear, do not continue to use tyre chains when they are no longer needed.
WARNING:
o When driving on roads covered with snow or ice, drive at lessthan 20 mph (30 km/h).
o Use the SAE "S" class or wire &
plastic chains.
o Don't use the tyre chains in 185/ 55R 15 tyre to prevent body dam-age.
o If you have noise caused by chains contacting the body, retighten thechain to avoid contact with thevehicle body.
o To prevent body damage, retighten
the chains after driving 0.3~0.6miles (0.5~1 km).

SI060B1-E TYRE REPLACEMENT
0.06 in. (1.6 mm)
Tyres must be replaced when the wear indicators appear as a solid bar across the tyre tread. The location of tread wear indicators is shown by the "TWI"or " " marks, etc., At this point, the remaining tread depth will be approxi- mately 0.06 in.(1.6 mm). In addition to this, the tyre must be replaced if anyportion of the tread has become bald or if there are any lumps, bulges or deep cuts in the sidewalls or tread.Replacement tyres must be of the rec- ommended size and rating and should be of the same manufacture and treadpattern on each axle.
!
SI060D2-E WHEEL REPLACEMENT The original wheels may only be re- placed with Hyundai Approved wheels. WARNING:
Driving on worn or defective tyres isdangerous. Worn tyres may cause loss of steering control and a seri- ous deterioration of braking effi-ciency. Defective tyres may cause vibration and loss of control through blow outs. Tyres of different size, construction or tread pattern should not be intermixed on the same axle. Radial and cross plytyres should not be used on the same vehicle. The use of tyres and wheels of nonapproved sizes can be dangerous.
