1. Use a scraper to clean the gasket surface of the cylinder head assembly.
2. Using special tool MD998051 and a torque wrench, tighten the bolts to the
specified torque in the order shown in the illustration. (in two or three cycles)
Tightening torque: 108 +/- 5 N.m (80 +/- 3 ft-lb) +/- 0 N.m (0 in-lb) +/-
108 +/- 5 N.m (80 +/- 3 ft-lb)
damage may result.
CAUTION: Install the head bolt washers with the beveled
side facing upwards as shown in the illustration.

Q: Is the antenna in good condition and is it properly mounted?
YES: Consult the radio manufacturer's service center.
NO: Either repair or replace the antenna assembly. Check to see that the
noise is gone.
INSPECTION PROCEDURE 12: Excessive Noise on AM and FM. DIAGNOSIS Radio reception can be affected by Radio Frequency (RF) emissions from a variety
of sources. The disturbance is even greater if the station is weak or poorly tuned.
FM reception is not as sensitive to disturbances as AM. AM reception is sensitive to
electrical disturbances such as power lines, lightening and other types of similar
electrical phenomena.
STEP 1. Check if the customer heard the noise under any of the following
conditions.
A motorcycle was passing. Lighting was flashing. Passed beneath a power line. Passed beneath a telephone line. Passed by a signal generator. Passed by any other sources of electrical noise. Passed under a bridge or through a tunnel.
Q: Did the noise occur during any of the circumstances listed above?
YES: The observed noise is normal.
NO: Go to Step 2.
STEP 2. Compare the customers radio to another identical model.
Operate the radio in a vehicle with a known good audio system of the same
t
ype as the customer's.

2. Check that the "TCL OFF" indicator light illuminates and goes off in cycles
each time the TCL switch is pushed after starting the engine.
3. Check that the "TCL OFF" indicator light and the TCL work indicator light do
not illuminate, when driving at 30km/h (37.5 mph) for more than 2 seconds.
4. If defective, repair it (Refer to TRACTION CONTROL/ACTIVE SKID
).
(Refer to TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (TCL) DIAGNOSIS
).

Rear Wiper And Washer - Endeavor
GENERAL DESCRIPTION REAR WIPER OPERATION
If the rear wiper and washer switch is turned to the "INT" position with the
ignition switch at "ACC" or "ON" position, the ETACS-ECU turns ON the rear
wiper drive signal for three seconds (approximately two cycles), then 7.4
seconds later the intermittent motion operates every eight seconds. If the
selector lever is moved to the "R" position when the rear wiper and washer
switch is turned to the "INT" position and the ignition switch is at the "ACC"
or "ON" position, the park/neutral position switch "R" turns ON. One second
later, the ETACS-ECU turns ON the rear wiper drive signal for three seconds
(approximately two cycles). Then, 7.4 seconds later, the intermittent operation
(eight second cycles) is restored.
REAR WASHER OPERATION
If the rear wiper and washer switch is turned to the ON (washer) position with
the ignition switch at the "ACC" or "ON" position, the rear washer ON signal
is sent to the ETACS-ECU, causing the rear wiper signal to turn on after 0.3
seconds. After the rear washer switch signal turns off, the rear wiper signal
turns off in three seconds. If the rear washer switch is turned to the ON
position while the rear wiper is in intermittent mode, the rear washer works for
that period when the washer switch remains on. Then the rear wiper returns to
the intermittent mode.
REAR WIPER AND WASHER DIAGNOSIS The rear wiper and washer are controlled by the Simplified Wiring System (SWS).
For troubleshooting, refer to SWS DIAGNOSIS
.
