Locking and unlocking
Opening the doors from the inside
You can open a locked door from the in-
side. Open door only when conditions are
safe to do so.

Opening the trunk
Opening the trunk from the outside
A minimum height clearance of 5.90 ft
(1.80 m) is required to open the trunk lid.
The handle is located above the rear li-
cense plate recess.
Pull on the handle.
The trunk opens.
iIf the vehicle has previously been
locked from the outside with the
SmartKey, opening a door from the in-
side will trigger the anti-theft alarm sys-
tem.
To cancel the alarm, do one of the fol-
lowing:
With the SmartKey
Insert the SmartKey in the starter
switch.
Press the Œ or ‹ button on
the SmartKey.
With KEYLESS-GO*
Grasp the outside door handle.
Press the KEYLESS-GO* start/stop
button.

You can open the trunk from the inside if
the vehicle is stationary.
A minimum height clearance of 5.90 ft
(1.80 m) is required to open the trunk lid.
The switch is located on the driver’s door.

until the trunk begins to open.
The trunk lid opens. The indicator lamp
in the switch comes on and remains lit
until the trunk is closed.
The trunk can also be opened using the
SmartKey (

release” (
page 104).
!The trunk lid swings open upwards au-
tomatically. Always make sure there is
sufficient overhead clearance.iIf the trunk lid does not open, it is still
locked separately (if applicable)

Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO*: If the ve-
hicle was previously centrally locked,
the trunk lid will lock automatically
when closed (page 91). The turn sig-
nals will flash three times to confirm
locking.

out, the trunk lid will open automatical-
ly if a SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO is
recognized inside the vehicle or in the
trunk.

The trunk lid opens automatically. The
indicator lamp in the switch comes on

Limiting opening height of trunk lid
The trunk lid opening height can be limited
when transporting goods on a roof rack
(e.g. presence of an MB sport luggage con-
tainer). When activated, the trunk lid opens
to approximately the height of the roof
edge.
You can activate the limiting opening
height of trunk lid using the control system
(
page 150). Closing from the inside
Press the remote trunk lid switch
(page 99) until the indicator lamp in
the switch goes out and the trunk lid is
closed.
To interrupt the closing procedure:
Release the remote trunk lid switch.
If the trunk lid comes into contact with an
object while closing (e.g. luggage that has
been piled too high), the closing procedure
is stopped and the trunk re-opens slightly.
!The trunk lid swings open upwards au-

the opening procedure, press or pull
the remote trunk lid switch.iIf the trunk lid does not open, it is still

KEYLESS-GO with you.
Press switch1 briefly.
The vehicle is locked and the trunk lid
closes automatically. The turn signals
flash three times to confirm locking.
If the trunk lid comes into contact with an
object while closing (e.g. luggage that has

The emergency release button is located
on the inside of the trunk lid.

opens.
Illumination of the emergency release but-
ton:
The button will flash for 30 minutes af-
ter opening the trunk.
The button will flash for 60 minutes af-
ter closing the trunk.

iThe emergency release button unlocks
and opens the trunk while the vehicle is
standing or driving.
The emergency release button does
not open the trunk lid, if the vehicle
battery is discharged or disconnected.
iIf the emergency release button is
pressend and the vehicle was centrally
locked from the outside using the
SmartKey, the exterior lamps will flash
and the alarm will sound as the trunk
lid opens.
To cancel the alarm, do one of the fol-
lowing:
With the SmartKey
Insert the SmartKey in the starter
switch.
Press the Œ or ‹ button on
the SmartKey.
With KEYLESS-GO*
Grasp the outside door handle.
