1. Bring the seat to the upright posi-tion and raise the armrest. Move the
head restraint to the fully down and
fully backward position.
CAUTION
When using the builtin child re-
straint, the head restraint must be
fully lowered and pulled fully back-
ward.
2. Lower the child seat cushion.3. While lifting the seat belt adjustmentlever in the child seat back panel,
pull both shoulder belts together.

4. Compress the shoulder belt clip toseparate the right and left shoulder
belts.5. Pull down the seatback part of theremovable pad. Make sure the child’s
shoulders are at or below the maxi-
mum shoulder height indicator label.
The removable pad is attached by Velcros.
CAUTION
If your child’s shoulders are above
the maximum shoulder height indica-
tor label, do not use the builtin child
restraint. Your child should use the
adult lap and shoulder belts.
6. Press the removable pad against the Velcros and install the pad to the
seatback. Make sure the belts go
through the slots in the pad.
CAUTION
If you have removed the removable
pad for cleaning etc., do not use the
builtin child restraint without the
pad.

7. Sit the child on the child seat. Placea shoulder belt over each shoulder.
Insert the tabs into the buckle.
CAUTION
When the builtin child restraint is
in use, do not use the adult lap and
shoulder belt instead of the builtin
child restraint seat belt as it can
cause death or severe injury to the
child in a sudden stop or crash.
After inserting the tabs, make sure
the tabs and buckle are locked and
that the shoulder belts and buckle
strap are not twisted.
Do not insert coins, clips, etc. in
the buckle as this may prevent you
from properly latching the tabs and
buckle.
If the seat belt does not function
normally, it cannot protect your
child from injury. Contact your
Toyota dealer immediately. Do not
use the builtin child restraint until
the seat belt is fixed.
8. Fasten the shoulder belt clip.
The purpose of the clip is to keep the
shoulder belts positioned correctly on the
shoulders.
CAUTION
An unfastened shoulder belt clip will
not keep the belts on the child’s
shoulders. In a sudden stop or crash,
the child may go too far forward and
be seriously injured. Make sure the
belt clip is fastened at all times.

9. Lift the seat belt adjusting lever toallow the belts to retract until the
shoulder belts are snugly adjusted
around the child’s shoulders.
You should not be able to put more than
two fingers between a shoulder belt and
the child’s chest.
After adjusting the shoulder belt tightness
by lifting the seat belt adjusting lever,
move the shoulder belt clip 5 to 8 cm (2
to 3 in.) below the child’s chin. On each
belt, the shoulder part should be centered
on the child’s shoulder. The belts should
be away from the child’s face and neck,
but not falling off the child’s s houlders.10. To release the child from the seat
belts, separate the shoulder belts,
then press the buckle release button.
Move both belts off the child’s shoulders.11. To store the builtin child restraint, fasten the shoulder belt clip and re-
turn the seat belt buckle. Raise the
child seat cushion.
CAUTION
Before using the vehicle’s seat belt,
make sure the head restraint is prop-
erly adjusted.

Child restraint systems are classified into
the following 3 types depending on the
child’s age and size.
(A) Infant seat
(B) Convertible seat
(C) Booster seat
Install the child restraint system following
the instructions provided by its manufac-
turer.
Your vehicle has anchor brackets for se-
curing the top strap of a child restraint
system.
For instructions about how to use the an-
chor bracket, see “—Using a top strap” in
this section.
The child restraint lower anchorages ap-
proved for your vehicle may also be used.
See “—Installation with child restraint low-
er anchorages” in this section.

(A) INFANT SEAT INSTALLATION
An infant seat is used in rearfacing
position only.CAUTION
Do not install a child restraint sys-
tem on the third seat if it interferes
with the lock mechanism of the sec-
ond seats. This can cause death or
serious injury to the child and pas-
sengers sitting in second seats in
case of sudden braking or a colli-
sion.

When installing a child restraint
system in the third seat center
position, adjust both seat cushions
to the same position and align both
seatbacks at the same angle. Other-
wise, the child restraint system can-
not be securely restrained and this
may cause death or serious injuries
in a collision.

1. Run the center lap belt through oraround the infant seat following the
instructions provided by its manufactur-
er and insert the tab into the buckle
taking care not to twist the belt.
CAUTION
After inserting the tab, make sure
the tab and buckle are locked and
that the lap belt is not twisted.
Do not insert coins, clips, etc. in
the buckle as this may prevent you
from properly latching the tab and
buckle.
If the seat belt does not function
normally, it cannot protect your
child from injury. Contact your
Toyota dealer immediately. Do not
use the child restraint system until
the seat belt is fixed.
2. While pressing the infant seat firmlyagainst the seat cushion and seatback,
tighten the lap belt by pulling its free
end to hold the infant seat securely.

CAUTION
Push and pull the child restraint sys-
tem in different directions to be sure
it is secure. Follow all the installation
instructions provided by its manufac-
turer.
3. To remove the infant seat, press thebucklerelease button.(B) CONVERTIBLE SEAT INSTALLATION
A convertible seat is used in forward
facing and rearfacing position depend-
ing on the child’s age and size. When
installing, follow the manufacturer’s in-
structions about the applicable child’s
age and size as well as directions for
installing a child restraint system.
