3 CHECK COOLING FAN OPERATION
Without CONSULT-II
1. Turn ignition switch ªOFFº.
2. Disconnect engine coolant temperature sensor harness connector.
3. Connect 150Wresistor to engine coolant temperature sensor harness connector.
4. Restart engine and make sure that cooling fan operates.

4 CHECK COOLING FAN POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT
1. Turn ignition switch ªOFFº.
2. Disconnect cooling fan relay.

4. Check voltage between cooling fan relay terminals 2, 5 and ground with CONSULT-II or tester.

5 DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
Check the following.
+Harness connectors M5, E101
+10A fuse
+30A fusible link
+Harness for open or short between cooling fan relay and fuse

cRepair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.

6 CHECK COOLING FAN GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT
1. Turn ignition switch ªOFFº.
2. Disconnect cooling fan motor harness connector.

3. Check harness continuity between cooling fan relay terminal 3 and cooling fan motor terminals 1, cooling fan motor terminals 2
and body ground. Refer to Wiring Diagram.
Continuity should exist.
4. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.
OK or NG
OKcGO TO 7.
NGcRepair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
7 CHECK COOLING FAN OUTPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT
1. Disconnect ECM harness connector.
2. Disconnect triple-pressure switch harness connector.
3. Check harness continuity between ECM terminal 14 and cooling fan relay terminal 1, cooling fan relay terminal 1 and triple-pres-
sure switch terminal 2, triple-pressure switch terminal 3 and ground. Refer to Wiring Diagram.
Continuity should exist.
4. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.

8 DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
Check the following.
+Harness connectors M5, E101
+Harness connectors M47, F55 (RHD models)
+Harness for open or short between cooling fan relay and ECM
+Harness for open or short between cooling fan relay and triple-pressure switch
+Harness for open or short between triple-pressure switch and ground
cRepair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.

Check continuity between cooling fan relay terminals 3 and 5 under the following conditions.

10 CHECK COOLING FAN MOTOR
Supply battery voltage between the following terminals and check operation.

13 CHECK COOLING SYSTEM FOR LEAK
Apply pressure to the cooling system with a tester, and check if the pressure drops.
Testing pressure: 157 kPa (1.57 bar, 1.6 kg/cm
2, 23 psi)
CAUTION:
Higher than the specified pressure may cause radiator damage.

14 DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART
Check the following for leak.

+Radiator

15 CHECK RADIATOR CAP
Apply pressure to cap with a tester and check radiator cap relief pressure.

79 - 98 kPa (0.78 - 0.98 bar, 0.8 - 1.0 kg/cm2, 11 - 14 psi)
