If one of the lights marked with 0 comes on suddenly while you
are driving, move a safe distance off the road. Turn off the engine,
turn the emergency flasher on and use other warning devices to
alert other motorists. Go to listed page in your Owner's Manual for

Pedals
The movement of the pedals must
never be obstructed by a floor mat
or any other object.
• In case one of the two brake circuits fails,
incr eased brake pedal travel is required to
bring the vehicle to a full stop.
• You should always be able to depress the
accelerator and the clutch pedals all the way
down to the floor.
• All pedals must be able to return to their
original position unhindered.
Only use floor mats which leave the pedal
area free and can be secured with floor mat
faste ners.
�W ARNING
Never place any objects in the area
of the pedals. In case of sudden
braking or an accident. an object
could interfere with pedal
function. You would not be able to
brake or accelerate.

Floor mats. floor mat fasteners
Floor mats are factory installed in your ve­
hicle.
Floor mat fasteners are installed in the foot­
wells of the front and rear* seats.
Floor mats used in your vehicle must be at­
tached to these fasteners (see illustration).
This will prevent the floor mats from sliding
into positions that could interfere with the
safe operation of your vehicle. Suitable Audi
floor mats can be obtained
from an auth orized Audi Dealer.
�W ARNING
Do not install additional floor mats
on top of existing floor mats be­
cause you will not be able to fasten
them down.
If you remove the floor mats for
cleaning. be sure to fasten them
again securely when reinstalling.

Parking
brake lever
The parking brake lever is located between
the front seats.
• To set the parking brake, pull the lever _up
until strong resistance is felt. The park1ng
brake must be pulled up all the way so that
the vehicle cannot be moved. When the
ignition is on, the brake waming light will
light up. •
Depress brake pedal and hold while re­
leasing parking brake. To release the park­
ing brake, pull the lever slightly up, depress
the release button (arrow), and then push
the lever all the way down.
When the parking brake is fully released,
the brake warning light will go out.
�W ARNING
• Always release the parking
brake fully. A partially engaged
brake will overheat the rear
brakes. reduc:e their effective­
ness and cause excessive wear.
This • could lead to brake failure
and an ac:c:ident.
• Always set the parking brake
when parking your vehicle.

wheels will first run into the curb
if the car starts to roll.

5-spaad automatic transmission (Tiptronic®)*
Yo ur vehicle is equip ped with an electroni­
cally controlled five-speed automatic trans­
missi �n, upshifting and downshifting is au­
tomatiC. You can also manually select a shift
program mptronic®).
Ignition key safety interlock
After switching off the ignition, you can re­
move the ignition key only when the selec­
tor lever is in the P (Park) position. When
the ignition key is removed, the selector le­
ver will be locked in the P (Park) position.

programs
The transmission is "self adapting" and will
automa tically select the most appropri­
ate sh1ft program suited to the driving condi­
tions and driving style.
The transmission will select one of the eco­
nomy programs when you drive at a steady
speed or at gradually changing speeds with­
out heavy acceleration. This gives best fuel
efficiency, with early upshifting and delayed
down shifting.
The transmission will automatically select
the _sporty shift programs when you drive
at h1 gh er speeds, or with heavy acceleration
and frequently changing speeds. Upshifts
are then delayed to make full use of engine
P ?Wer, an9 downshifting takes place at
higher eng1ne speeds than in the economy
programs. The s
�lection o � the most suitable shift pro­
gram JS a contmuous automatic process.
Regardless of this, the driver can also make
the transmission switch to a sporty pro­
gram by pressing down the gas pedal
quickly.
This causes the transmission to shift down
into a lower gear and makes quick accelera­
tion possible (for example to pass another
vehicle). You do not need to depress the gas
pedal into the kick-down range. After the
transmission _has upsh ifted again, the origi­
n� ! program IS selected according to your
dnv1ng style.
An additional shift program allows the auto­
matic t�ansmission to select the proper gear
for uphill and downhill driving.
This prevents the transmission from shift­
ing up �n� dow � un necessarily on hills. The
transmiSSion w1ll also shift down to a lower
gear when the driver presses the brake
pedal while driving downhill. This makes
use of the braking effect of the engine with­
out the need to shift down manually.
With this function the transmission will
however, only shift down as far as 2nd gear :
