INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1 Check other DTCs output (in addition to DTC P0711).
PREPARATION:
(a) Warm up the engine.
(b) Turn the ignition switch off.
(c) Connect the OBD II scan tool or hand-held tester to the DLC3.
(d) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(e) Push the ºONº button of the OBD II scan tool or the hand-held tester.
(f) Select the item ºDIAGNOSIS/ENHANCED OBD II/DTC INFO/CURRENT CODESº.
CHECK:
Read the DTCs using the OBD II scan tool or the hand-held tester.
RESULT:

DTC P0724 Brake Switch ºBº Circuit High
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this circuit is to prevent the engine from stalling, while driving in lock-up condition, when
brakes are suddenly applied.
When the brake pedal is operated, this switch sends a signal to ECM. Then the ECM cancels operation of
the lock-up clutch while braking is in progress.
DTC No.DTC Detection ConditionTrouble Area
P0724Stop light switch always turn on even vehicle is driver Go and
Stop 10 times. (2-trip detection logic)Short in stop light switch signal circuit
Stop light switch
ECM
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
When the stop light switch remains ON during ºstop and goº driving, the ECM interprets this as a fault in the
stop light switch and the MIL comes on and the ECM stores the DTC. The vehicle must stop and go (3 km/h
(2 mph) to 30 km/h (19 mph)) ten times for two driving cycles in order to detect malfunction.
