"BRAKE" INDICATOR LIGHT
Indicates the brake fluid level is low in the reservoir or
the parking brake is still on.
HIGH BEAM INDICATOR LIGHT
Light indicates that the head light high beam is on.
TURN SIGNAL INDICATOR LIGHTS
Indicate signal operation and direction.
SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT
The warning light stays on until the driver's seat belt is
fastened.
ALTERNATOR WARNING LIGHT
Light comes on if alternator is not charging.
REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER INDICATOR
Indicates the rear defogger is on.
FOG LIGHTS INDICATOR
Indicates the fog lights are on.
EMERGENCY FLASHER INDICATOR
Indicates the emergency flashers are in operation.
"ECS" MALFUNCTION WARNING (IF EQUIPPED)
Warns of a malfunction in the emission control system.
OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT
Indicates no, or low, oil pressure.
COOLANT TEMPERATURE & LEVEL WARNING (IF EQUIPPED)
Warns of excessive engine coolant temperature or low coolant
level in system.
"ABS" WARNING LIGHT
Warns of a malfunction in the anti-lock brake system.

remove upper starter mounting bolt. Release handbrake (to allow axle
rotation) and raise vehicle on hoist.
2) Disconnect right rear axle from transmission and wire
aside. Cover exposed CV joint with plastic bag to prevent entry of
dirt or other foreign material.
3) Loosen clamp securing cooling hoses to chassis. Wire hoses
aside. Remove bolt "A" from differential lock servo. Loosen bolt "B"
and withdraw as far as possible. Lack of clearance prevents complete
removal of bolt "B". See Fig. 1.
NOTE: Nuts are welded to bracket. DO NOT attempt to loosen.Fig. 1: Removing Differential Lock Servo (Vanagon)

4) Push back protective sleeve and drive out spring pin. With
bolt "B" withdrawn as far as possible, give servo a slight upward
twist and remove from bracket. See Fig. 1.
5) Remove circlip, bracket securing bolts and bracket. See

Installation
Slide new ball joint into slot in control arm. Install and
tighten ball joint retaining bolts. Install lower control arm to
subframe. Install ball joint into wheel bearing housing. To complete
installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten control arm bolts
with vehicle on ground. Tighten all bolts and nuts to specification.
See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS TABLE at end of article. Check wheel
alignment. See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in the WHEEL
ALIGNMENT Section.
STRUT ASSEMBLY
Removal
1) Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Remove
and support caliper assembly out of work area. Remove bolts which
retain strut to wheel bearing housing. Note top bolt is used to adjust
front wheel camber.
2) Support front suspension arm and related components. Pry
suspension strut from wheel bearing housing. Working inside engine
compartment, remove upper strut retaining nuts. Remove strut.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts and nuts
to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS TABLE at end of article.
Check wheel alignment. See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in the
WHEEL ALIGNMENT Section.
FRONT SUSPENSION ASSEMBLY
Removal
1) Raise vehicle and support at center with safety stands.
Disconnect brake line and plug openings. Leave flex line in place.
Remove stabilizer link rod nut, bushings and washers.
2) Remove tie rod nut. Separate tie rod from wheel bearing
housing. Remove bolts retaining inner portion of constant velocity
joint to transaxle drive flange.
3) Remove lower control arm front pivot bolt. Remove bolts
retaining "U" shaped bracket holding control arm rear pivot.
NOTE: On vehicles with automatic transmission, engine may have to
be lifted slightly to gain access to pivot bolts.
4) Support suspension assembly being removed. Remove upper
strut retaining nuts. Remove suspension assembly from vehicle.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Make sure convex side
of thrust washer faces pivot bolt head. Tighten bolts and nuts to
