DISASSEMBLY OF TRANSFER COMPONENT
PARTS
1. REMOVE TRANSFER VACUUM ACTUATOR
(a) Remove the four bolts.
(b) Remove the actuator bracket and stiffener center plate.
3. REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL LOCK SHIFT FORK SHAFT
(a) Remove transfer indicator switch.
(b) Using SST, remove the plug.

(d) Remove the vacuum actuator.
(c) Using SST, remove the plug.

19. INSTALL TRANSFER VACUUM ACTUATOR
(a) Install the vacuum actuator.
(b) Install and torque the three bolts.(d) Install and torque the indicator switch.
Torque: 400 kg±cm (29 ft±Ib, 39 N±m)
(e) Using SST, install and torque the plug.
SST 09313±30021
Torque: 250 kg±cm (18 ft±Ib, 25 N±m)
(c) Install the stiffener center plate and actuator
bracket.
(d) Install and torque the four bolts.
Torque: 380 kg±cm (27 ft±lb, 37 N±m)
(e) Set the shift fork shaft at the as shown in the figure.

1. REMOVE REAR CENTER SUPPORT BEARING
(a) Using a hammer and chisel, loosen the staked part of
the nut. 4. INSPECT CROSS GROOVE JOINT
Check the joint smooth play by turning the joint in directions
as shown. And check the crack or damage or grease leak-
age of boot. If problem is found, replace the joint.
(d) Using SST, remove the rear flange.

(e) Remove the rear center support bearing and
plate washer. (b) Using SST to hold the front flange, remove the nut
and plate washer.

(c) Place the matchmarks on the rear flange and
shaft.

(b) With the same condition, adjust the intervals be-
tween the rear side of center bearing housing
and the rear side of cushion at 11.5 ± 13.5 mm
(0.453 in. ± 0.531 in.) as shown in the illustra-
tion below, then torque the bolts.
Torque: 375 kg±cm (27 ft±lb, 37 N±m)
5. INSTALL CENTER SUPPORT BEARING
(a) With a vehicle unladen condition, adjust the intervals
between the rear side of boot cover and the shaft as
shown in the illustration.
(c) Check that the center line of the bracket is at right
angles at the shaft axial direction.

REPLACEMENT OF AXLE HUB AND
BEARING
1. REMOVE AXLE SHAFT FROM AXLE HUB
Using SST, push the axle shaft off the axle hub.

2. REMOVE BEARING INNER RACE (OUTSIDE) FROM
AXLE SHAFT
Using SST, pull off the bearing inner race (outside) from
the axle shaft.(e) Remove the axle carrier with axle hub.
NOTICE: Cover the drive shaft boot with cloth to
protect it from damage.
4. REMOVE INNER AND OUTER OIL SEAL
Using SST, remove the oil seal from the axle carrier.

NOTICE: The hub bearing could be damaged if it is sub-
jected to the vehicle weight, such as when moving the ve-
hicle with the drive shaft removed. Therefore, if it
is bearing first support it with SST.

2. REMOVE DRIVE SHAFT
HINT: Be careful not to damage the boots.
(a) Place rnatchmarks on the inboard joint tulip and the
side gear shaft flange.
(b) Loosen four nuts holding the drive shaft to the side
gear shaft.
(c) Disconnect the drive shaft from the side gear shaft. 1. REMOVE COTTER PIN, LOCK NUT CAP AND LOCK
NUT
(a) Remove the cotter pin and lock nut cap.
(b) Loosen the bearing lock nut while depressing the
brake pedal.
(d) Remove the drive shaft from the axle carrier.

1. CHECK DRIVE SHAFT
(a) Check to see that there is no play in the inboard and
outboard joints.
(b) Check to see that the inboard joint slide smoothly in
the thrust direction.
(c) Check to see that the¿e is no remarkable play in the
redial direction of the inboard joint.
(d) Check the damage of boot.
2. REMOVE INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMPS
4. REMOVE INBOARD JOINT TULIP FROM DRIVE SHAFT
(a) Place matchmarks on the inboard joint tulip and
drive shaft.
NOTICE: Do not punch the marks. 3. REMOVE INBOARD JOINT BOOT FROM INBOARD
JOINT TULIP
(b) Remove the inboard joint tulip from the drive
shaft.

7. REMOVE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT
(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the two boot clamps of
the outboard joint boot.
(b) Remove the boot from the outboard joint.
NOTICE: Do not disassemble the outboard joint.
5. REMOVE TRIPOD JOINT
(a) Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring.
(c) Using a hammer and brass bar, drive out the tri-
pod joint from the drive shaft.
6. REMOVE INBOARD JOINT BOOT AND CLAMP(b) Place matchmarks on the shaft and the tripod.
