Severe Climates
If you drive in extremely cold climates:
•It may be necessary to increase thecoolant concentration above 50%.
•A coolant concentration of 60%provides improved freeze pointprotection.
•Coolant concentrations above 60%decrease the overheat protectioncharacteristics of the coolant and maycause damage to the electric motor.
If you drive in extremely hot climates:
•You can decrease the coolantconcentration to 40%.
•A coolant concentration of 40%provides improved overheat protection.
•Coolant concentrations below 40%decrease the overheat and corrosionprotection characteristics of thecoolant and may cause damage to theelectric motor.
Coolant Change
Change the coolant at specific mileageintervals listed in the scheduledmaintenance information. Add predilutedcoolant approved to the correctspecification. See Cooling SystemCapacity and Specification (page 366).
12V BATTERY
CHANGING THE 12V BATTERY
If the 12 volt battery needs servicing, seeyour authorized dealer.
CHARGING THE 12V BATTERY
Your vehicle has a high voltage to lowvoltage energy transfer feature that keepsthe 12 volt battery charged by the highvoltage battery. If the 12 volt battery levelis low, the high voltage battery transfersenergy to the 12 volt battery when thevehicle is off.

The headlamps on your vehicle areproperly aimed at the assembly plant. Ifyour vehicle has been in an accident, havethe alignment of your headlamps checkedby an authorized dealer.

1.Park your vehicle on a level surfaceapproximately 25 ft (7.6 m) away froma vertical wall or screen.
2.Apply the parking brake.
3.Measure the height from the center ofyour headlamp to the ground.
Note:There may be an identifying mark onthe lens to help you locate the center of theheadlamp low beam light.
4.Mark a horizontal reference line on thewall or screen that is a minimum of 8 ft(2.4 m) long.
5.Switch the low beam headlamps onand open the hood.

6.On the wall or screen you will observea flat zone of high intensity lightlocated at the top of the right handportion of the beam pattern. If the topedge of the high intensity light zone isnot at the horizontal reference line, theheadlamp will need to be adjusted.
Note:To see a clearer light pattern whileadjusting one headlamp, block the lightfrom the other headlamp.
7.Locate the vertical adjuster on eachheadlamp. Use a Phillips #2screwdriver to turn the adjuster eitherclockwise or counterclockwise toadjust the vertical aim of theheadlamp.
8.Repeat Steps 3 through 7 to adjust theother headlamp.
9.Close the hood and turn off the lamps.

LOCATING THE TIRE LABEL
The tire label or safetycertification label is on the driverside B-pillar or the edge of thedriver door. It contains informationon the recommended front andrear tire inflation pressures. SeeLocating the SafetyCompliance CertificationLabels (page 291).

Tire Quality Grades apply to newpneumatic passenger car tires.The Quality grades can be foundwhere applicable on the tiresidewall between tread shoulderand maximum section width. Forexample: Treadwear 200Traction AA Temperature A.
These Tire Quality Grades aredetermined by standards that theUnited States Department of
Transportation has set.
Tire Quality Grades apply to newpneumatic passenger car tires.They do not apply to deep tread,winter-type snow tires,space-saver or temporary usespare tires, light truck or LT typetires, tires with nominal rimdiameters of 10 to 12 inches orlimited production tires as definedin Title 49 Code of FederalRegulations Part 575.104 (c)(2).
U.S. Department ofTransportation Tire qualitygrades: The U.S. Department ofTransportation requires us to giveyou the following informationabout tire grades exactly as thegovernment has written it.
Treadwear
The treadwear grade is acomparative rating based on thewear rate of the tire when testedunder controlled conditions on aspecified government test course.For example, a tire graded 150would wear 1½ times as well onthe government course as a tiregraded 100. The relativeperformance of tires dependsupon the actual conditions of theiruse, however, and may departsignificantly from the norm due tovariations in driving habits, servicepractices, and differences in roadcharacteristics and climate.

Information on P Type Tires
P215/65R15 95H is an example of
a tire size, load index and speedrating. The definitions of theseitems are listed below. (Note thatthe tire size, load index and speedrating for your vehicle may bedifferent from this example.)
A.P: Indicates a tire, designatedby the Tire and Rim Association,that may be used for service oncars, sport utility vehicles,minivans and light trucks.Note: Ifyour tire size does not begin witha letter this may mean it isdesignated by either the EuropeanTire and Rim TechnicalOrganization or the Japan TireManufacturing Association.
B.215: Indicates the nominalwidth of the tire in millimetersfrom sidewall edge to sidewalledge. In general, the larger thenumber, the wider the tire.
C.65: Indicates the aspect ratiowhich gives the tire's ratio ofheight to width.
D.R: Indicates a radial type tire.
E.15: Indicates the wheel or rimdiameter in inches. If you changeyour wheel size, you will have topurchase new tires to match thenew wheel diameter.
F.95: Indicates the tire's loadindex. It is an index that relates tohow much weight a tire can carry.You may find this information inyour owner’s manual. If not,contact a local tire dealer.
Note:You may not find thisinformation on all tires because itis not required by federal law.
G.H: Indicates the tire's speedrating. The speed rating denotesthe speed at which a tire isdesigned to be driven for extendedperiods of time under a standardcondition of load and inflationpressure. The tires on your vehiclemay operate at differentconditions for load and inflationpressure. These speed ratings mayneed to be adjusted for thedifference in conditions. Theratings range from 81 mph(130 km/h) to 186 mph
(299 km/h). These ratings arelisted in the following chart.

TIRE REPLACEMENT
REQUIREMENTS
Your vehicle comes with tiresdesigned to provide a safe rideand handling capability.
WARNING: Only usereplacement tires and wheelsthat are the same size, loadindex, speed rating and type(such as P-metric versusLT-metric or all-season versusall-terrain) as those originallyprovided by Ford. Therecommended tire and wheelsize may be found on either theSafety Compliance CertificationLabel (affixed to either the doorhinge pillar, door-latch post, orthe door edge that meets thedoor-latch post, next to thedriver's seating position), or theTire Label which is located onthe B-Pillar or edge of thedriver's door. If this informationis not found on these labels, thenyou should contact yourauthorized dealer as soon aspossible. Use of any tire or wheelnot recommended by Ford can
affect the safety andperformance of your vehicle,which could result in anincreased risk of loss of vehiclecontrol, vehicle rollover, personalinjury and death.
WARNING: To reduce therisk of serious injury, whenmounting replacement tires andwheels, you should not exceedthe maximum pressure indicatedon the sidewall of the tire to setthe beads without additionalprecautions listed below. If thebeads do not seat at themaximum pressure indicated,re-lubricate and try again.
WARNING: For a mounting
pressure more than 20 psi(1.38 bar) greater than themaximum pressure, a Forddealer or other tire serviceprofessional should do themounting.
WARNING: Always inflatesteel carcass tires with a remoteair fill with the person inflatingstanding at a minimum of 12 ft(3.66 m) away from the wheeland tire assembly.

WHAT IS THE TIRE SEALANT
AND INFLATOR KIT
The kit consists of an air compressor tore-inflate the tire and a canister of sealingcompound that effectively seals mostpunctures. This kit provides a temporarytire repair allowing you to drive your vehicleup to 120 mi (200 km) at a maximumspeed of 50 mph (80 km/h) to reach a tireservice location.
Note:The temporary mobility kit containsenough sealant compound in the canisterfor one tire repair only. See an authorizeddealer for replacement sealant canisters.
TIRE SEALANT AND INFLATOR
KIT PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Depending on the typeand extent of tire damage, some tirescan only be partially sealed or not sealedat all. Loss of tire pressure can affectvehicle handling, leading to loss ofvehicle control.
WARNING: Do not use the kit on apreviously damaged tire, for examplewhen it has been driven under inflated.This could cause loss of vehicle control,personal injury or death.
Do not attempt to repair punctures largerthan 0.24 in (6 mm) or damage to the tire'ssidewall.
Only punctures located within the tiretread can be sealed with the kit.
Only use the kit supplied with your vehicle.
The temporary mobility kit containsenough sealant compound in the canisterfor one tire repair only.
After using the sealant, an authorizeddealer needs to replace the tire pressuremonitoring system sensor and valve stemon the wheel.
