The lights automatically turn on/off according to the power switch mode, the presence of the electronic key, whether

QTo prevent the 12-volt battery from being discharged
If the interior lights remain on when the power switch is turned to OFF, the lights will go off automatically after 20 min-
utes.
QThe interior lights may turn on automatically when
If any of the SRS airbags deploy (inflate)
or in the event of a strong rear impact, the interior lights will turn on automati-cally.
The interior lights will turn off automati- cally after approximately 20 minutes. The interior lights can be turned off man-
ually. However, in order to help prevent further collisions, it is recommended that they be left on until safety can be
ensured. (The interior lights may not turn on auto-
matically depending on the force of the impact and conditions of the collision.)

Working from top to bottom, lib-
erally apply water to the vehicle
body, wheel wells and underside
of the vehicle to remove any dirt
and dust.
Wash the vehicle body using a
sponge or soft cloth, such as a
chamois.
For hard-to-remove marks, use
car wash soap and rinse thor-
oughly with water.
Wipe away any water.
Wax the vehicle when the water-
proof coating deteriorates.
If water does not bead on a clean sur-
face, apply wax when the vehicle body
is cool.
QBefore car washes
Check that the fuel filler door and
charging port lid on your vehicle are
closed properly.
QAutomatic car washes
OBefore washing the vehicle:
• Fold the mirrors
• Turn off the power back door (if
equipped)
Start washing from the front of the vehi-
cle. Make sure to extend the mirrors
before driving.
OBrushes used in automatic car
washes may scratch the vehicle sur-
face, parts (wheel, etc.) and harm
your vehicle’s paint.
ORear spoiler may not be washable in
some automatic car washes. There
may also be an increased risk of dam-
age to vehicle.
QHigh pressure car washes
As water may enter the cabin, do not
bring the nozzle tip near the gaps
around the doors or perimeter of the
windows, or spray these areas continu-
ously.
QNote for a smart entry & start sys-
tem
If the door handle becomes wet while
the electronic key is within the effective
range, the door may lock and unlock
repeatedly. In that case, follow the fol-
lowing correction procedures to wash
the vehicle:
OPlace the key in a position 2 m (6 ft.)
or more separate from the vehicle
while the vehicle is being washed.
(Take care to ensure that the key is
not stolen.)
OSet the electronic key to battery-sav-
ing mode to disable the smart entry &
start system. (P.222)
QWheels and wheel ornaments
ORemove any dirt immediately by using
a neutral detergent.
OWash detergent off with water imme-
diately after use.
OTo protect the paint from damage,
make sure to observe the following
precautions.
• Do not use acidic, alkaline or abrasive
detergent.
• Do not use hard brushes.
• Do not use detergent on the wheels
when they are hot, such as after driv-
ing or parking in hot weather.

The 12-volt battery is located in the
right-hand side of luggage compart-
ment.
QBefore recharging
When recharging, the 12-volt battery produces hydrogen gas which is flam-mable and explosive. Therefore,
observe the following precautions before recharging:
OIf recharging with the 12-volt battery installed on the vehicle, be sure to dis-connect the ground cable.
OMake sure the power switch on the charger is off when connecting and
disconnecting the charger cables to the 12-volt battery.
QAfter recharging/reconnecting the 12-volt battery
The hybrid system may not start. Follow the procedure below to initialize the sys-tem.
1 Shift the shift lever to P.
2 Open and close any of the doors.
3 Restart the hybrid system.
OUnlocking the doors using the smart entry & start system may not be possi-
ble immediately after reconnecting the 12-volt battery. If this happens, use the wireless remote control or the
mechanical key to lock/unlock the

QDo not use any fluid other than washer fluid
Do not use soapy water or engine antifreeze instead of washer fluid.Doing so may cause streaking on the
vehicle’s painted surfaces, as well as damaging the pump leading to prob-lems of the washer fluid not spraying.
QDiluting washer fluid
Dilute washer fluid with water as nec-
essary. Refer to the freezing temperatures listed on the label of the washer fluid
bottle.

QIf the key battery is depleted
The following symptoms may occur:
OThe smart entry & start system and
wireless remote control will not func- tion properly.
OThe operational range will be reduced.
Prepare the following before replac-
ing the battery:
 Flathead screwdriver
 Small flathead screwdriver
 Lithium battery CR2450
QUse a CR2450 lithium battery
OBatteries can be purchased at any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer, local electrical appliance
shops or camera stores.
OReplace only with the same or equiva-
lent type recommended by the manu- facturer.
ODispose of used batteries according to the local laws.
1 Release the lock and remove
the mechanical key.
2 Remove the key cover.
Use a screwdriver of an appropriate size. Forcedly prying may cause the cover damaged.
To prevent damage to the key, cover the tip of the flathead screwdriver with a rag.
3 Remove the depleted battery
using a small flathead screw-
driver.
When removing the cover, the elec- tronic key module may stick to the cover and the battery may not be visi-
ble. In this case, remove the electronic key module in order to remove the bat-tery.

OA coin battery or button battery is
used in the electronic key. If a bat- tery is swallowed, it may cause severe chemical burns in as little as
2 hours and may result in death or serious injury.
OKeep away new and removed bat-teries from children.
OIf the cover cannot be firmly closed, stop using the electronic key and stow the key in the place where
children cannot reach, and then contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer as soon as possible.
OIf you accidentally swallow a battery or put a battery into a part of your body, get emergency medical atten-
tion immediately.
QTo prevent battery explosion or leakage of flammable liquid or gas
OReplace the battery with a new bat-tery of the same type. If a wrong type of battery is used, it may
explode.
ODo not expose batteries to
extremely low pressure due to high altitude or extremely high tempera-tures.
ODo not burn, break or cut a battery.

When trouble arises
One of the following may be the
cause of the problem:
 The AC charging cable may be
attached to the vehicle.
