For safety and security
seat, if there is a gap between
the child seat and the seatback,
adjust the seatback angle until
good contact is achieved.
2 If the head restraint interferes
with the child restraint system
installation and the head
restraint can be removed,
remove the head restraint. Oth-
erwise, put the head restraint in
the upper most position.

3 Check the positions of the exclu-
sive fixing bars, and install the
child restraint system to the
seat.
The bars are installed in the clearance between the seat cushion and seat-
back.
4 After installing the child restraint
system, rock it back and forth to

Install the child restraint system in

QWhen installing a child restraint system
Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
OAfter securing a child restraint sys-tem, never adjust the seat.
OWhen using the lower anchorages, be sure that there are no foreign
objects around the anchorages and that the seat belt is not caught behind the child restraint system.
OFollow all installation instructions provided by the child restraint sys-
tem manufacturer.

2-2. Charging
Plug-in hybrid system
WARNING
ODo not let the wheels on the AC charging cable, plug, charging con-
nector and CCID (Charging Circuit Interrupting Device).
OFirmly insert the plug into the socket.
ODo not use an extension cord and converting adaptor.
OClose the hood before using the charging system.The cooling fan may start operating
suddenly. Touching or getting close to rotating parts such as the fan may cause your hands or clothes
(especially a necktie or scarf) to become caught and result in a seri-ous injury.
OAfter connecting the charging cable, confirm that it is not wound
around anything.
OIf the power indicator on the CCID
(Charging Circuit Interrupting Device) does not illuminate after plugging the AC charging cable into
the socket-outlet, unplug it immedi- ately.
QIf the error warning indicator on the CCID (Charging Circuit Inter-rupting Device) illuminates or
flashes during charging
There may be an electrical leakage in the power source path, or there may
be a malfunction in the AC charging cable or CCID (Charging Circuit Inter-rupting Device). Refer to P.112 and
follow the correction procedure. If the error warning indicator does not turn off even after performing the correc-
tion procedure, immediately stop charging, remove the AC charging cable and contact any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer. Con-tinuing to charge the vehicle in that
condition may lead to unforeseen accidents or serious injury.
QOnboard traction battery charger
The onboard traction battery charger is located under the rear seats. Make
sure to observe the following precau- tions regarding the onboard traction battery charger. Failure to observe
these precautions may result in death or serious injury such as burns and electric shocks.
OThe onboard traction battery char-ger is hot during charging. Do not touch the onboard traction battery
charger, as doing so may result in burns.
ODo not disassemble, repair or mod-ify the onboard traction battery charger. When the onboard traction
battery charger needs to be repaired, consult any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer.

To prevent electrical shock, be sure
to remove by following the proce-
dures below.
1 Unlock the doors to unlock the
charging connector. ( P.121)
The charging connector will be
unlocked and the AC charging inlet light will illuminate when the doors are unlocked.
NOTICE
QWhen charging
Do not insert the plug into the AC
charging inlet.
The AC charging inlet may be dam- aged.
QUsing private power generator
Do not use private power generators
as a power source for charging.
Doing so may make charging unsta- ble, the voltage may be insufficient,
and the error warning indicator on the CCID (Charging Circuit Interrupting Device) of the AC charging cable may
flash.
QUsable temperature range
ODo not charge if the outside tem- perature is -30°C (-22°F) or below, as it is likely that charging will take
longer.
ODo not leave the vehicle or the
charging cable in areas where the outside temperature is lower than -40°C (-40°F).
QCharging station
Due to the environment in which the
power equipment is located, charging may be unstable due to noise, the voltage may be insufficient, and the
error warning indicator on the CCID (Charging Circuit Interrupting Device) of the AC charging cable may flash.
QOnboard traction battery char-ger cooling air intake vent
Cooling air intake vent for the
onboard traction battery charger is installed under the rear seats.
Make sure to observe the following
precautions regarding the cooling air intake vent. Failure to observe these precautions may result in a charging
system malfunction.
ODo not block the air intake vent with
seat covers or luggage
OIf the air intake vent is clogged with dust, clean it with a vacuum cleaner
ODo not allow water or foreign matter to enter the air intake vent
ODo not spill large amounts of water
near the air intake vent If water is spilled, have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer and do not charge the hybrid bat-
tery (traction battery) before the inspection.

WARNING
QWater in the vehicle
ODo not splash or spill liquid in the
vehicle, such as on the floor, on the rear seats, in the DC/DC Converter air intake vent, junction box or in
the luggage compartment. ( P.98) Doing so may cause the DC/DC Converter, electrical components,
etc. to malfunction or catch fire.
ODo not get any of the SRS compo-
nents or wiring in the vehicle interior wet. ( P.40) An electrical malfunction may
cause the airbags to deploy or not function properly, resulting in death or serious injury.
OVehicles with wireless charger:Do not let the wireless charger
( P.433) get wet. Failure to do so may cause the charger to become hot and cause burns or could cause
electric shock resulting in death or serious injury.
QCleaning the interior (especially instrument panel)
Do not use a polish wax or polish
cleaner. The instrument panel may reflect off the windshield, obstructing the driver’s view and leading to an
accident, resulting in death or serious injury.
NOTICE
QCleaning detergents
ODo not use the following types of
detergent, as they may discolor the vehicle interior or cause streaks or damage to painted surfaces:
• Non-seat portions: Organic sub- stances such as benzene or gaso-line, alkaline or acidic solutions,
dye, and bleach
• Seats: Alkaline or acidic solutions, such as thinner, benzene, and alco-
hol
ODo not use a polish wax or polish cleaner. The instrument panel’s or other interior part’s painted surface
may be damaged.
QPreventing damage to leather
surfaces
Observe the following precautions to avoid damage to and deterioration of
leather surfaces:
ORemove any dust or dirt from leather surfaces immediately.
ODo not expose the vehicle to direct sunlight for extended periods of
time. Park the vehicle in the shade, especially during summer.
ODo not place items made of vinyl, plastic, or containing wax on the upholstery, as they may stick to the
leather surface if the vehicle interior heats up significantly.
QWater on the floor
Do not wash the vehicle floor with water.
Vehicle systems such as the audio system may be damaged if water comes into contact with electrical
components such as the audio sys- tem above or under the floor of the vehicle. Water may also cause the
body to rust.
QWhen cleaning the inside of the
windshield (vehicles with Toyota Safety Sense)
Do not allow glass cleaner to contact
the lens. Also, do not touch the lens. ( P.300)
QCleaning the inside of the rear window
ODo not use a glass cleaner to clean
the rear window, as this may cause damage to the rear window defog-ger heater wires. Use a cloth damp-
ened with lukewarm water to gently wipe the window clean. Wipe the window in strokes running parallel
to the heater wires.
