■ Automatic system cancelation of hill-start assist control
The hill-start assist control will turn off in any of the follo wing situations:
● The shift lever is shifted to P or N
● The accelerator pedal is depressed
● The parking brake is engaged
● 2 seconds at maximum elapsed after the brake pedal is released
WARNING
■The ABS does not operate effectively when
● The limits of tire gripping performance have been exceeded (such as
excessively worn tires on a snow covered road).
● The vehicle hydroplanes while driving at high speed on wet or slick roads.
■ Stopping distance when the ABS is operating may exceed that of nor-
mal conditions
The ABS is not designed to shorten the vehicle’s stopping dista nce. Always
maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you, espe cially in the
following situations:
● When driving on dirt, gravel or snow-covered roads
● When driving with tire chains
● When driving over bumps in the road
● When driving over roads with potholes or uneven surfaces
■ TRC/VSC may not operate effectively when
Directional control and power may not be achievable while drivi ng on slip-
pery road surfaces, even if the TRC/VSC system is operating.
Drive the vehicle carefully in conditions where stability and p ower may be
lost.
■ Active Cornering Assist does not operate effectively when
● Do not overly rely on Active Cornering Assist. Active Cornering A ss i st m a y
not operate effectively when accelerating down slopes or drivin g on slip-
pery road surfaces.
● When Active Cornering Assist frequently operates, Active Cornering
Assist may temporarily stop operating to ensure proper operatio n of the
brakes, TRC and VSC.

WARNING
■Hill-start assist control does not operate effectively when
● Do not overly rely on hill-start assist control. Hill-start assist control may
not operate effectively on steep inclines and roads covered wit h ice.
● Unlike the parking brake, hill-start assist control is not intended to hold the
vehicle stationary for an extended period of time. Do not attem pt to use
hill-start assist control to hold the vehicle on an incline, as doing so may
lead to an accident.
■ When the TRC/ABS/VSC/Trailer Sway Control is activated
The slip indicator light flashes. Always drive carefully. Reckl ess driving may
cause an accident. Exercise particular care when the indicator light flashes.
■ When the TRC/VSC/Trailer Sway Control systems are turned off
Be especially careful and drive at a speed appropriate to the r oad condi-
tions. As these are the systems to help ensure vehicle stabilit y and driving
force, do not turn the TRC/VSC/Trailer Sway Control systems off unless
necessary.
Trailer Sway Control is part of the VSC system and will not ope rate if VSC is
turned off or experiences a malfunction.
■ Replacing tires
Make sure that all tires are of the specified size, brand, trea d pattern and
total load capacity. In addition, make sure that the tires are inflated to the
recommended tire inflation pressure level.
The ABS, TRC, Trailer Sway Control and VSC systems will not fun ction cor-
rectly if different tires are installed on the vehicle.
Contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized rep airer, or any
reliable repairer for further information when replacing tires or wheels.

Hybrid Electric Vehicle driving tips
◆Using Eco drive mode
When using Eco drive mode, the torque corresponding to the acce l-
erator pedal depression amount can be generated more smoothly
than it is in normal conditions. In addition, the operation of the air
conditioning system (heating/cooling) will be minimized, improv ing
the fuel economy. ( P. 4 3 2 )
◆Use of Hybrid System Indicator
The Eco-friendly driving is possible by keeping the Hybrid Syst em
Indicator within Eco area. ( P. 168)
◆Shift lever operation
Shift the shift lever to D when stopped at a traffic light, or driving in
heavy traffic, etc. Shift the shift lever to P when parking. Wh en
using the N, there is no positive effect on fuel consumption. I n the
N, the gasoline engine operates but electricity cannot be gener -
ated. Also, when using the air conditioning system, etc., the h ybrid
battery (traction battery) power is consumed.
◆Accelerator pedal/brake pedal operation
● Drive your vehicle smoothly. Avoid abrupt acceleration and
deceleration. Gradual acceleration and deceleration will make
more effective use of the electric motor (traction motor) witho ut
having to use gasoline engine power.
● Avoid repeated acceleration. Repeated acceleration consumes
hybrid battery (traction battery) power, resulting in poor fuel con-
sumption. Battery power can be restored by driving with the
accelerator pedal slightly released.
For economical and ecological driving, pay attention to the fol -
lowing points:
5444-6. Driving tips
C-HR_HV_OM_Europe_OM10720E
Accelerate the vehicle slowly, keep a safe distance between you and
the vehicle ahead, and drive at a reduced speed suitable to roa d con-
ditions.
● Park the vehicle and shift the shift lever to P and block the wheel
under the vehicle without setting the parking brake. The parkin g
brake may freeze up, preventing it from being released. If the vehi-
cle is parked without setting the parking brake, make sure to b lock
the wheels. Failure to do so may be dangerous because it may
cause the vehicle to move unexpectedly, possibly leading to an
accident.
● If the vehicle is parked without setting the parking brake, confirm
that the shift lever cannot be moved out of P*.
*: The shift lever will be locked if it is attempted to be shifte d from P to any
other position without depressing the brake pedal. If the shift lever can be
shifted from P, there may be a problem with the shift lock syst em. Have the
vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota a uthorized
repairer, or any reliabl e repairer immediately.

■ Aluminum wheels (vehicles with matte black painted wheels)
As matte black painted wheels require different cleaning method s than con-
ventional aluminum wheels, be sure to observe the following. Fo r details,
consult any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized rep airer, or any
reliable repairer.
● Remove dirt using water. If the wheels are excessively dirty, use a sponge
or soft cloth dampened with a diluted neutral detergent to remo ve the dirt.
● When using detergent, make sure to rinse it off with water immediately.
Then use a soft cloth to wipe off the water.
● To prevent the matte black paint from being damaged, make sure to observe
the following precautions:
• Do not scrub or polish the wheels using a brush or dry cloth.
• Do not use any wheel coatings or abrasive detergents.
• When using an automatic car wash, disable/do not select the wh eel
brush function (if such an option is available).
■ Brake pads and calipers
Rust may form if the vehicle is parked with wet brake pads or d isc rotors,
causing them to stick. Before parking the vehicle after it is w ashed, drive
slowly and apply the brakes several times to dry the parts.
■ Bumpers and side moldings
Do not scrub with abrasive cleaners.
■ Plated portions (if equipped)
If dirt cannot be removed, clean the parts as follows:
● Use a soft cloth dampened with an approximately 5% solution of neutral
detergent and water to clean the dirt off.
● Wipe the surface with a dry, soft cloth to remove any remaining moisture.
● To remove oily deposits, use alcohol wet wipes or a similar product.
