If a change in the speed limit of 20 km/h or more
is de tected and automatic adoption of speed lim-
its is activated, the new speed limit is automati-
cally adop ted as the stored speed (/ page 259).The driven speed is adjusted when

of signs indicating entry into an urban area, the
speed is adap ted according tothe speed permit-
te d within the urban area. The speed limit display
in the Instrument Display is alw ays updated when
th eve hicle is le vel with the tra1c sign.
If th ere is no speed restriction on an unlimited
str etch ofroad (e.g. on a mo torw ay),th ere com-
mended speed is automatical lyadop ted as the
stored speed. The system uses the speed stored
on an unlimited str etch ofroad as there commen-
ded speed. If you do not alter the stored speed on
an unlimited str etch ofroad, there commended
speed is 130 km/h.
If Ac tive Distance Assist DISTRONIC has been put
into passive mode bypressing the accelerator
pedal, only speed limits which are higher than the
set speed are adop ted.

When Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is acti va-
te d, theve hicle speed will be adap ted accordingly
to thero ute events ahead. Depending on the drive
prog ram selected, theve hicle neg otiates a route
ev ent ahead in an economical, comfor table or
dynamic manner. When thero ute event has been
passed, theve hicle accelerates again tothe
stored speed. The set distance totheve hicle in
front, vehicles de tected ahead and speed restric-
tions ahead are take n into account.
Yo u can activate and deactivate route-based
speed adap tation in the multimedia system
(/ page 248).

jams on multi-lane roads with separate car riage-

onds and with mode rate stee ring manoeuvres. It

markings. Active Tra1c Jam Assist automatically
main tains a safe distance from theve hicle in front
and vehicles cutting in.

DSR is an aid toassist you when driving downhill.
It ke eps the speed of tr avel at the selected target
speed. The steeper the downhill gradient, the
gr eater the DSR braking e.ect on theve hicle. On
0at st retches of road and uphill gradients, the
DSR brakes theve hicle minimally or not at all.
When DSR is activated and the transmission is in
position h,kori, DSR controls the driving
speed. The targetspeed can be set toava lue
between 2 km/h and 18 km/h. By braking or
accelerating, you can drive at a higher or lo wer
speed than thetarg etspeed at any time.
DSR is deacti vated automatically if you drive at
speeds greater than 45 km/h or select drive pro-
gr am C orB. The îoffmessage then
appears in the multifunction displa y.The status indicator in
the multifunction display disappears.

speed of 210 km/h. The system helps youto stay
in the centre of the lane bymeans of moderate
steering inter ventions. Depending on the speed
driven, Active Steering Assist uses theve hicles
ahead and lane markings as a refere nce.

R The windscreen is dirty, mis ted up, damaged

ri sk of a collision with vehicles, cyclists or pedes-
trians or toreduce the e.ects of such a collision.
If Ac tive Brake Assist has de tected a risk of colli-
sion, a warning tone sounds and theL dis-
ta nce warning lamp lights up in the instrument
cluster.
If yo u do not react tothewa rning, autonomous
braking can be initiated in critical situations.
In especially critical situations, Active Brake Assist
can initiate autonomous braking directl y.In this
case, thewa rning lamp and warning tone occur
simultaneously with the braking application. If
yo u apply the brake yourself in a critical situa-
tion or apply the brake during autonomous brak-
ing, situation-dependent braking assistance
occurs. The brake pressure increases up tomaxi-
mum full-s top braking if necessar y.
