XFold the rear seat backrest forwards(Ypage 254).
XTake the mechanical key out of the Smart-Key (Ypage 71).
XInsert mechanical keyDinto openingCinthe trim and push it in.
XOpen the tailgate.
XInsert the mechanical key into the SmartKey(Ypage 72).
Emergency release button
You can open the trunk lid from inside thevehicle with the emergency release button.
XPress emergency release buttonCbriefly.The trunk lid unlocks and opens.
The trunk lid can be unlocked and opened withthe trunk lid emergency release when the vehi-cle is stationary or while driving.
The trunk lid emergency release does not openthe trunk lid if the battery is disconnected ordischarged.
Trunk lid emergency release light:
REmergency release buttonCflashes for30 minutes after the trunk lid is opened.

Side windows
Important safety notes
GWARNING
While opening the side windows, body parts
could become trapped between the side
window and the door frame as the side win-
dow moves. There is a risk of injury.
Make sure that nobody touches the side
window during the opening procedure. If
somebody becomes trapped, release the
switch or pull the switch to close the side
window again.
GWARNING
While closing the side windows, body parts
in the closing area could become trapped.
There is a risk of injury.
When closing make sure that no parts of the
body are in the closing area. If somebody
becomes trapped, release the switch or
press the switch to open the side window
again.
GWARNING
If children operate the side windows they
could become trapped, particularly if they
are left unsupervised. There is a risk of
injury.
Activate the override feature for the rear
side windows. When leaving the vehicle,
always take the SmartKey with you and lock
the vehicle. Never leave children unsuper-
vised in the vehicle.
Side window reversing feature
The side windows are equipped with an auto-matic reversing feature. If a solid object blocks

or restricts a side window from travelingupwards during the automatic closing process,the side window opens again automatically.During the manual closing process, the sidewindow only opens again automatically afterthe corresponding switch is released. Theautomatic reversing feature is only an aid anddoes not relieve you of the responsibility topay attention when closing a side window.
GWARNING
The reversing feature does not react:
Rto soft, light and thin objects, e.g. fingers
Rwhile adjusting
This means that the reversing feature can-
not prevent someone being trapped in these
situations. There is a risk of injury.
Make sure that no body parts are in close
proximity during the closing procedure. If
someone becomes trapped, press theb
button to open the side window again.

The switches for all side windows are locatedon the driver's door. There is also a switch oneach door for the corresponding side window.
The switches on the driver's door take prece-dence.

Observe the complete closing procedure
when the convenience closing feature is
operating. Make sure that no body parts are
in close proximity during the closing proce-
dure.
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO or KEYLESS-GOstart function:you can do the following at thesame time:
Rlock the vehicle
Rclose the side windows
Rclose the panorama roof with power tilt/sliding panel
On vehicles with a panorama roof with powertilt/sliding panel, you can then close the rollersunblind.

Using the SmartKey
XVehicles with KEYLESS-GO or KEYLESS-GO start function:for the following opera-tions, point the tip of the SmartKey at thehandle on the driver's door. The SmartKeymust be close to the driver's door handle.
iVehicles with KEYLESS-GO or KEYLESS-GO start function:the SmartKey must bein close proximity to the vehicle.
XPress and hold the7button until theside windows and the panorama sliding sun-roof are fully closed.
XMake sure that all the side windows and thepanorama roof with power tilt/sliding panelare closed.
On vehicles with a panorama roof with powertilt/sliding panel:
XPress and hold the7button again untilthe roller sunblind of the panorama slidingsunroof closes.
XTo interrupt convenience closing:releasethe7button.
Using KEYLESS-GO
The driver's door and the door at which thehandle is used, must both be closed. TheSmartKey must be outside the vehicle. Thegap between the SmartKey and the corre-sponding door handle should not be greaterthan 3 ft (1 m).

Resetting the side windows
If a side window can no longer be closed fully,you must reset it.
XClose all the doors.
XTurn the SmartKey to positionGorHinthe ignition lock (Ypage 125).
XPull the corresponding switch on the doorcontrol panel until the side window is com-pletely closed (Ypage 84).
XHold the switch for an additional second.
If the side window opens again slightly:
XImmediately pull the corresponding switchon the door control panel until the side win-dow is completely closed (Ypage 84).
XHold the switch for an additional second.
XIf the respective side window remainsclosed after the button is released, then ithas been set correctly. If this is not thecase, repeat the steps above.
Problems with the side windows
GWARNING
If you close a side window again immediately after it has been blocked or reset, the side win-
dow closes with increased or maximum force. The reversing feature is then not active. Parts of
the body could be trapped in the closing area in the process. This poses an increased risk of
injury or even fatal injury.
Make sure that no parts of the body are in the closing area. To stop the closing process,
release the switch or push the switch again to reopen the side window.

In the following section, the term "sliding sun-roof" refers to the panorama roof with powertilt/sliding panel.
GWARNING
While opening and closing the sliding sun-
roof, body parts in close proximity could
become trapped. There is a risk of injury.
Make sure that no body parts are in close
proximity during the opening and closing
procedures.
If somebody becomes trapped:
Rrelease the switch immediately, or
Rduring automatic operation, push the
switch briefly in any direction
The opening or closing procedure will be
stopped.
GWARNING
If children operate the sliding sunroof they
could become trapped, particularly if they
are left unsupervised. There is a risk of
injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle.
Never leave children unsupervised in the
vehicle.
GWARNING
At high speeds the raised sliding sunroof
automatically lowers slightly at the rear. This
could trap you or other persons. There is a
risk of injury. Make sure that nobody rea-
ches into the sweep of the sliding sunroof
whilst the vehicle is in motion.
If somebody becomes trapped, immediately
pull back the sliding sunroof switch. The
sliding sunroof lifts during opening.

!Only open the sliding sunroof if it is free ofsnow and ice. Otherwise, malfunctions mayoccur.
Do not allow anything to protrude from thesliding sunroof. Otherwise, the seals couldbe damaged.
!The weather can change abruptly. It couldstart to rain or snow. Make sure that thesliding sunroof is closed when you leave thevehicle. The vehicle electronics can be dam-aged if water enters the vehicle interior.
iResonance noises can occur in addition tothe usual airflow noises when the slidingsunroof is open. They are caused by minorpressure fluctuations in the vehicle interior.Change the position of the sliding sunroof oropen a side window slightly to reduce oreliminate these noises.
Sliding sunroof reversing feature
In the following section, the term "sliding sun-roof" refers to the panorama roof with powertilt/sliding panel.
The sliding sunroof is equipped with an auto-matic reversing feature. If a solid object blocksor restricts the sliding sunroof during the clos-ing process, the sliding sunroof opens againautomatically. However, the automatic revers-ing feature is only an aid and does not relieveyou of the responsibility of paying attentionwhen closing the sliding sunroof.
GWARNING
The reverse function does not react in par-
ticular:
Rto soft, light and thin objects, e.g. fingers
Rover the last 1/6 in (4 mm) of the closing
path
Rwhile adjusting

Problems with the seat heating

The on-board voltage is too low because too many electrical con-sumers are switched on.
XSwitch off electrical consumers that you do not need, such as therear window defroster or interior lighting.Once the battery is sufficiently charged, the seat heating willswitch back on automatically.
Steering wheel

GWARNING
You could lose control of your vehicle if you
do the following while driving:
Radjust the driver's seat, head restraint,
steering wheel or mirrors
Rfasten the seat belt
There is a risk of an accident.
Adjust the driver's seat, head restraint,
steering wheel and mirror and fasten your
seat belt before starting the engine.
GWARNING
Children could injure themselves if they
adjust the steering wheel. There is a risk of
injury.
Never leave children unsupervised in the
vehicle.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. This
also applies for the Digital Vehicle Key if the
"Digital Vehicle Key" function is activated via
Mercedes me connect.
Adjusting the steering wheel
GWARNING
If the steering wheel is unlocked while the
vehicle is in motion, it could change position
unexpectedly. This could cause you to lose
control of the vehicle. There is a risk of an
accident.

the windshield wiper blades or scratch thewindshield.
For this reason, you should always switchoff the windshield wipers in dry weather.
Vehicles with a rain sensor: in theborcposition, the appropriate wiping fre-quency is automatically set according to theintensity of the rain. In thecposition, therain sensor is more sensitive than in thebposition, causing the windshield wiper to wipemore frequently.
If the wiper blades are worn, the windshieldwill no longer be wiped properly. This couldprevent you from observing the traffic condi-tions.
