Concept
In case of an emergency, an Emergency Re#j
quest can be made through the system.

Only press the SOS button in an emergency.
For technical reasons, the Emergency Request cannot be guaranteed under unfavorable con#jditions.

Initiating
an
Emergency
Request
automatically
Under certain conditions, for instance if the air#j bags trigger, an Emergency Request is auto#j
matically initiated immediately after an acci#j
dent of corresponding severity. Automatic
Collision Notification is not affected by press#j
ing the SOS button.
Initiating
an
Emergency
Request
manually
1.Touch the cover.2.Press the SOS button and hold until the
LED on the microphone lights up green.'yThe LED is illuminated green when an
Emergency Request has been initiated.
If a cancel prompt appears on the Control
Display, the Emergency Request can be

If the situation allows, wait in your vehicle
until the voice connection has been estab#j
lished.'yThe LED flashes green when a connection to the BMW Response Center has been
established.
The BMW Response Center then makes contact with you and takes further steps to
help you.
Even if you are unable to respond, the
BMW Response Center can take further
steps to help you under certain circum#j
stances.
For this, data is transmitted to the BMW
Response Center which serves to deter#j
mine the necessary rescue measures. E.g., the current position of the vehicle, if it canbe established.
Even if you can no longer hear the BMW Response Center through the loudspeak#j
ers, the BMW Response Center may still
be able to hear you.
The BMW Response Center ends the Emer#j
gency Request.
What
to
do
after
an
accidentSafety

Contact with live components can lead to
an electric shock. There is a risk of injuries or danger to life. After an accident, do not touchany high-voltage components such as orangecolored high-voltage cables or parts that are incontact with exposed high-voltage cables.'

NOTE
In the case of body contact between the
two vehicles, a short circuit can occur during jump-starting. There is a risk of property dam#jage. Make sure that no body contact occurs.'

Tow-starting
and
towingSafety

Due to system limits, individual functions
can malfunction during tow-starting/towing with the Intelligent Safety systems activated.
There is a risk of an accident. Switch all Intelli#j gent Safety systems off prior to tow-starting/
towing.'

Should it prove impossible to avoid mounting
the tow bar at an offset angle, please observe
the following:'yManeuvering capability is limited going
around corners.'yThe tow bar will generate lateral forces if it is secured with an offset.
Tow
rope
When starting to tow the vehicle, make surethat the tow rope is taut.
Use nylon ropes or straps, which will enable
the vehicle to be towed without jerking.
Tow
fitting
General
information
The screw-in tow fitting should always be car#j
ried in the vehicle.
The tow fitting can be screwed in at the front
or rear of the vehicle.
The tow fitting is found in the onboard vehicle tool kit, refer to page 324.
'yUse only the tow fitting provided with the
vehicle and screw it all the way in.'yUse the tow fitting for towing on paved
roads only.'yAvoid lateral loading of the tow fitting, for instance do not lift the vehicle by the towfitting.Safety

there may be damage to the vehicle or to the

Washing
the
vehicle
General
information Regularly remove foreign objects such asleaves in the area below the windshield when
the hood is raised.
Wash your vehicle frequently, particularly in
winter. Intense soiling and road salt can dam#j age the vehicle.

and
high-pressure
washer
Safety
information NOTE
When cleaning with high-pressure wash#j
ers, components can be damaged due to the pressure or temperatures being too high.There is a risk of property damage. Maintain
sufficient distance and do not spray too long continuously. Follow the operating instructionsfor the high-pressure washer.'

Some vehicle washes do not permit persons inthe vehicle. The vehicle cannot be locked from
the outside when in selector lever position N. A signal sounds when an attempt is made to lock
the vehicle.
Driving
out
of
a
vehicle
wash
Make sure that the remote control is in the ve#j hicle.
Switch on drive-ready state, refer to page 109.
Headlights
Do not rub wet headlights dry and do not use abrasive or acidic cleaning agents.
Soak areas that have been dirtied, for instance
from insects, with shampoo and wash off with water.
Thaw ice with de-icing spray; do not use an ice
scraper.
After
washing
the
vehicle After washing the vehicle, apply the brakes
briefly to dry them; otherwise, braking action
can be reduced. The heat generated during
braking dries brake discs and brake pads and
protects them against corrosion.
Completely remove all residues on the win#j
dows, to minimize loss of visibility due to
smearing and to reduce wiper noises and
wiper blade wear.

BMW recommends using vehicle care and
cleaning products from BMW. Suitable care products are available from a dealer#ss service
center or another qualified service center or re#j pair shop.Safety

Cleansers can contain substances that
are dangerous and harmful to your health. There is a risk of injury. When cleaning the in#j
terior, open the doors or windows. Only use
products intended for cleaning vehicles. Fol#j
low the instructions on the container.'

Use leather care products; otherwise, dirt and
grease will gradually break down the protective layer of the leather surface.
Upholstery
material
care
General
information Vacuum the upholstery regularly with a vac#j
uum cleaner.
If upholstery is very dirty, e.g., with beverage stains, use a soft sponge or microfiber cloth with a suitable interior cleaner.
Clean the upholstery down to the seams using large sweeping motions. Avoid rubbing thematerial vigorously.

Open Velcron fasteners on articles of
clothing can damage the seat covers. There is a risk of property damage. Ensure that any Vel#j
