Installing
child
restraint
systems
General
information
Pay attention to the information, operating and
safety information of the child restraint system manufacturer when selecting, installing and
using child restraint systems.
Safety
information WARNING
The protective effect of damaged child
restraint systems or of child restraint systems exposed to an accident and their fasteningsystems can be limited or lost. A child can
e.g.,not sufficiently restrained, for instance in the event of an accident or braking and evasivemaneuvers. There is a risk of injuries or danger
to life. Have damaged child restraint systems
or of child restraint systems exposed to an ac#j
cident and their fastening systems checked
and possibly replaced by the dealer#ss service
center or another qualified service center or re#j pair shop.'

Child
seat
security
The safety belts in the rear and the front pas#jsenger safety belt can be permanently locked
to fasten child restraint systems.
Locking
the
safety
belt
1.Pull out the belt strap completely.2.Secure the child restraint system with the
safety belt.3.Allow the belt strap to be pulled in and pull it tight against the child restraint system.
The safety belt is locked.
Unlocking
the
safety
belt
1.Unbuckle the safety belt buckle.2.Remove the child restraint system.3.Allow the belt strap to be pulled in com#j
pletely.

dren.
Pay attention to the information, operating and
safety information of the child restraint system manufacturer when selecting, installing and
using LATCH child restraint fixing systems.
Mounts

the
lower
LATCH
anchors
General
information
The lower anchors may be used to attach the
CRS to the vehicle seat up to a combined child and CRS weight of 65 lb/30 kg when the child
is restrained by the internal harnesses.
Safety
information WARNING
If the LATCH child restraint fixing sys#j
tems are not correctly engaged, the protective
effect of the LATCH child restraint fixing sys#j
tem can be limited. There is a risk of injuries or
danger to life. Make sure that the lower an#j
chors are securely engaged and that the
LATCH child restraint fixing system fits se#j
curely against the backrest.'

turer's information.4.Ensure that both LATCH anchors are prop#j erly connected.5.After mounting, move the backrest back upslightly so that the child restraint systemrests lightly against the backrest.

Safety
information WARNING
If the upper retaining strap is incorrectly
used for the child restraint system, the protec#j
tive effect can be reduced. There is a risk of in#j
jury. Make sure that the upper retaining strap is not guided across sharp edges and without
twisting to the upper retaining strap.'

Guide it over the head restraint of the mid#j
dle seat.4.Attach the hook of the retaining strap to the anchor.5.Tighten the retaining strap by pulling itdown.6.Lower and lock head restraints as needed.
Locking
the
doors
and
windows
in
the
rear
General
information
In certain situations it may be advisable to se#j
cure the rear doors and windows, for instance
when transporting children.
Doors
Push the locking lever on the rear doors up.The door can now be opened from the outsideonly.
Safety
switch
for
the
rear Press button on the driver's door.
This locks various functions so that they can#j
not be operated from the rear. Safety switch, refer to page 81.

This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.
Start/Stop
buttonConcept Pressing the Start/Stop button
switches drive-ready state on or off, refer to page 21.
Drive-ready state is switched on
when you depress the brake
pedal while pressing the Start/Stop button.
Pressing the Start/Stop button again switchesdrive-ready state back off and standby state,refer to page 21, is switched back on.
Drive-ready state cannot be switched on, as long as the charging cable is connected, referto page 278.

Concept
The following are the different drive-ready
state variants:'yElectric drive-ready state, refer to
page 110.
The vehicle is powered by the electric mo#j
tor.'yStarting the combustion engine, refer to
page 110.
The vehicle is powered by the combustion
engine.
Safety
information
DANGER
If the exhaust pipe is blocked or ventila#j
tion is insufficient, harmful exhaust gases can
enter into the vehicle. The exhaust gases con#j tain pollutants which are colorless and odor#j
less. In enclosed areas, exhaust gases can also
accumulate outside of the vehicle. There is
danger to life. Keep the exhaust pipe free and
ensure sufficient ventilation.'

WARNING
Unattended children or animals can
cause the vehicle to move and endanger them#j selves and traffic, e.g., due to the following ac#j
tions:'yPressing the Start/Stop button.'yReleasing the parking brake.'yOpening and closing the doors or win#j
dows.'yEngaging selector lever position N.'yUsing vehicle equipment.
There is a risk of accidents or injuries. Do not leave children or animals unattended in the ve#j
hicle. Take the remote control with you when exiting and lock the vehicle.'

General
information
READY is displayed in the instrument cluster. If necessary, the combustion engine starts auto#jmatically.
The combustion engine is also stopped during
the trip when rolling without acceleration or braking. This driving condition, in which the ve#j
hicle is traveling without power and energy re#j
covery is not active, is referred to as coasting,
refer to page 113.
The combustion engine is not switched off au#j
tomatically in the following situations:'yThe combustion engine is not at operating
temperature.'yThe transmission selector lever is in posi#j tion M/S.'yHigh-voltage battery is heavily discharged
or vehicle electrical system is heavily bur#j
dened.'yHigh stress of the automatic climate con#j trol in the heating or cooling phase.'yThe engine compartment lid is unlocked.'yThe vehicle is being optimized for the cur#jrent driving style, e.g., during the break-in
period or after a service appointment.'yThe hybrid system is malfunctioning.
Safety
mode
An automatically stopped combustion engine does not start independently:
'yWith the driver's door open, if neither the
brake pedal nor the accelerator pedal is de#j
pressed, and the driver's safety belt is not
fastened.'yWhen the hood is unlocked.
The indicator lights come on. The combustion engine can only be started via the Start/Stop
button.
Switching
off
the
vehicle
during
an
automatic
engine
stop
During an automatic engine stop, the vehicle
can be switched off permanently, for instance
when leaving it.1.Press the Start/Stop button.'yThe standby state is activated.'yThe Auto Start/Stop function is deacti#j
vated.'ySelector lever position P is engaged
automatically.2.Set the parking brake.
Malfunction
The Auto Start/Stop function no longer switches off the combustion engine automati#jcally in the event of a malfunction. A messageis displayed. It is possible to continue driving.
Have the system checked.
Electric
driving:
ePOWER
General
information While driving electrically with ePOWER, the ve#j
hicle is powered by the electric motor. The system runs automatically.
Depending on the charge state of the high-
voltage battery, maximum speed, the vehicle's
capacity to accelerate, and range can vary.
For electrical driving, certain conditions, refer
to page 112, must be satisfied.
Displays of the hybrid system, refer to
page 131.
Safety
information WARNING
When driving in electric mode, pedes#j
trians and other traffic might pay less attention
to the vehicle due to the lack of engine noise.
There is a risk of an accident. Adjust driving
