When trouble arises
Fuel pump shut off system (gasoline
engine)
Follow the procedure below to restart the engine after the system is
activated.Turn the engine switch to the “ACC” or “LOCK” position (vehicles
without smart entry & start system), or ACCESSORY mode or off
(vehicles with smart entry & start system).
Restart the engine.
To minimize the risk of fuel leakage when the engine stalls or an
airbag inflates upon collision, the fuel pump shut off system
stops supplying fuel to the engine.
NOTICE
■Before starting the engine
Inspect the ground under the vehicle.
If you find that fuel has leaked on to the ground, the fuel system has been
damaged and is in need of repair. Do not restart the engine.

turn on or flash. If a light turns on or flashes, but then goes off,
this does not necessarily indicate a malfunction in the system.
However, if this continues to occur, have the vehicle inspected
by any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly
qualified and equipped professional.

When trouble arises
*1: Seat belt reminders:The seat belts reminder sounds to alert the driver and passengers that
any of the seat belts of the occupied seats is not fastened. The buzzer
sounds for 30 seconds after the vehicle has reached a speed of at least
20 km/h (12 mph). Then, if the seat belt is still unfastened, the buzzer will
sound in a different tone for 90 more seconds.
*2: Parking brake engaged warning buzzer: A buzzer will sound if the vehicle is driven at a speed of approximately
5 km/h (3 mph) or more.
Master warning light A buzzer sounds and the warning light comes on and
flashes to indicate that the master warning system has
detected a malfunction.

Tire pressure warning light (if equipped)
When the light comes on:
Low tire inflation pressure such as
• Natural causes ( →P. 534)
• Flat tire ( →P. 570, 554)
→ Adjust the tire inflation pressure to the specified
level.
The light will turn off after a few minutes. In case the
light does not turn off even if the tire inflation pres-
sure is adjusted, have the system checked by any
authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly
qualified and equipped professional.
When the light comes on after blinking for 1 minute:
Malfunction in the tire pressure warning system ( →P. 535)
→ Have the system checked by any authorized Toyota

■Electric power steering system warning light (warning buzzer)
When the battery charge becomes insufficient or the voltage temporarily
drops, the electric power steering system warning light may come on and the
warning buzzer may sound.
■ When the tire pressure warning light comes on (vehicles with tire pres-
sure warning system)
Inspect the appearance of the tire to check that the tire is not punctured.
If the tire is punctured: →P. 570, 554
If the tire is not punctured:
Carry out the following procedure after the tire temperature has lowered suffi-
ciently.
● Check the tire inflation pressure and adjust to the appropriate level.
● If the warning light does not go out even after several minutes, check that
the tire inflation pressure is at the specified level and carry out initialization.
(→ P. 470)
The warning light may come on again if the above operations are conducted
without first allowing the tire temperature to lower sufficiently.
■ The tire pressure warning light may come on due to natural causes
(vehicles with tire pressure warning system)
The tire pressure warning light may come on due to natural causes such as
natural air leaks and tire inflation pressure changes caused by temperature.
In this case, adjusting the tire inflation pressure will turn off the warning light
(after a few minutes).
■ When using the spare tire (vehicles with tire pressure warning system)
As the spare tire is not equipped with a tire pressure warning valve and trans-
mitter, low inflation pressure of the spare tire will not be indicated by the tire
pressure warning system. Also, if you r eplace a flat tire with the spare tire
after the tire pressure warning light comes on, the light remains on.
■ Conditions that the tire pressure warning system may not function prop-
erly (vehicles with tire pressure warning system)
→ P. 476

When trouble arises
■If the tire pressure warning light fre quently comes on after blinking for 1
minute (vehicles with tire pressure warning system)
If the tire pressure warning light frequently comes on after blinking for 1
minute when the engine switch is turned to the “ON” position (vehicles with-
out smart entry & start system) or IGNITION ON mode (vehicles with smart
entry & start system), have it checked by any authorized Toyota dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
If the tire pressure warning light frequently comes on after blinking for 1
minute when you change between registered wheel sets, confirm the correct
wheel set has been selected.
■ If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving
For some models, the malfunction indicator lamp will come on if the fuel tank
becomes completely empty. If the fuel tank is empty, refuel the vehicle imme-
diately. The malfunction indicator lamp will go off after several trips.
If the malfunction indicator lamp does not go off, contact any authorized
Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
■ Front passenger detection sensor, seat belt reminder and warning
buzzer
● If luggage is placed on the front passenger seat, the front passenger detec-
tion sensor may cause the warning light to flash and the warning buzzer to
sound even if a passenger is not sitting in the seat.
● If a cushion is placed on the seat, the sensor may not detect a passenger,
and the warning light may not operate properly.

WARNING
■ When the electric power steering system warning light comes on
The steering wheel may become extremely heavy.
If the steering wheel becomes heavier than usual when operating, firmly
hold and operate it using more force than usual.
■ If the tire pressure warning light comes on (vehicles with tire pressure
warning system)
Be sure to observe the following precautions. Failure to do so could cause a
loss of vehicle control and result in death or serious injury.
●Stop your vehicle in a safe place as soon as possible. Adjust the tire infla-
tion pressure immediately.
● If the tire pressure warning light comes on even after tire inflation pressure
adjustment, it is probable that you have a flat tire. Check the tires. If a tire
is flat, change it with the spare tire and have the flat tire repaired by the
nearest authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.
● Avoid abrupt maneuvering and braking. If the vehicle tires deteriorate, you
could lose control of the steering wheel or the brakes.
■ If a blowout or sudden air leakage should occur (vehicles with tire
pressure warning system)
The tire pressure warning system may not activate immediately.
NOTICE
■To ensure the tire pressure warn ing system operates properly (vehi-
cles with tire pressure warning system)
Do not install tires with different specifications or makers, as the tire pres-
sure warning system may not operate properly.
