Seat belts may be damaged in an accident,
although the damage may not be visible, e.g.
due to splinters of glass. Modified or damaged
seat belts may tear or fail ,e.g. in an accident.
Modified Emergency Tensioning Devices
coul daccidentally trigger or fail to deploy
when necessary. This posesani ncreased risk
of injury or even fatal injury.
Never modify the seat belts, Emergency Ten-
sioning Devices, belta nchorages and inertia
reels. Make sure that the seat belts are
undamaged, not worn out and clean. Follow-
ing an accident, have the seat belts checked
immediatel yataqualified specialist work-
shop.
Only use seat belts that have been approved for
you rvehicl ebyM ercedes-Benz.
Proper use of the seat belts
Observe the safety notes on the seat belt
(Ypage39).
All vehicleo ccupants must be wearing the seat
beltc orrectly before beginning the journey .Also
make sure that all vehicleo ccupants are always
wearing the seat beltc orrectly while the vehicle
is in motion.
When fastening the seat belt, alway smake sure
that:
Rthe seat beltt ongue is only inserted to the belt
buckle belonging to that seat.
Rthe seat beltist ight across yourbody.
Avoid wearing bulky clothing, e.g. awinter
coat.
Rthe seat beltisn ot twisted.
Only then can the forces which occur be dis-
tributed over the area of the belt.
Rthe shoulde rsection of the beltisa lways
routed across the center of you rshoulder.
The shoulde rsection of the beltm ust not
come into contact with you rneck or be routed
under you rarm.
Rthe lap beltp asses tightly and as low downa s
possible across you rlap.

forward-facing child restraint system must lie as flat as possible
against the backrest of the front-passenger seat. If necessary,
adjust the position of the front-passenger seat.
XWhen installing the child restraint system, make sure that the seat belt is tight. Do not pull the seat belt tight using the front-passenger
seat adjustment .This could result in the seat belt and the child
restraint system being pulled too tightly.
XCheck for correct installation of the child restraint system.
Make sure that the head restraint does not apply aload to the child
restraint system. If necessary, adjust the head restraint accord-
ingly.
XMake sure that no object sare applying additional weight onto the
seat.
XIf the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator lamp remains off and/or
the PASSENGER AIR BAG ON indicator lamp lights up, do not install ac hild restraint system on the front-passenger seat.
XHave OCS checked as soon as possible at an authorized Mercedes-
Benz Center.

GWARNING
The air bag parts are hot after an air bag has
been deployed. There is arisk of injury.
Do not touch the air bag parts. Have a
deploye dair bag replaced at aqualified spe-
cialist workshop as soon as possible.
GWARNING
Ad eployeda ir bag no longer offers any pro-
tection and cannot provide the intended pro-
tection in an accident. There is an increased
risk of injury.
Have the vehicle towed to aqualified special-
ist workshop in order to have adeployeda ir
bag replaced.

tect it with ablanket, for example. If the child

Always ensure that all vehicleo ccupants have
their seat belts fastened correctly and are sitting
properly.P articular attention must be pai dto

increased risk of injury,p ossibly even fatal.
Stop the vehiclei mmediately, paying atten-
tion to road and traffic conditions. Reactivate
the special seat beltr etractor and secure the
child restraint system properly.
The seat beltont he front-passenge rside is
equipped with aspecial seat beltr etractor.
When activated, the special seat beltr etractor
ensure sthat the seat beltw illn ot slacken once
the child restraint system has been secured.
Installing achild restraint system:
XAlways comply with the child restraint system
manufacturer's installation instructions.
XPul lthe seat belts moothly out of the belt
loop.
XEngage the seat beltt ongue in the beltbuckle.
Activating the special seat beltr etractor:
XPullthe seat belto ut fullyand let the inertia
reel retract it again.
Whil ethe seat beltisr etracting, you should
hear aratcheting sound .The special seat belt
retractor is activated.
XPush the child seat restraint system downs o
that the seat beltist ight and does not loosen.
Removing achild restraint system and deacti-

tionally turned in the ignition lock. This could
cause the engine to be switched off. There is a risk of an accident.
Do not attach any heavy or large object stothe
SmartKey. Remove any bulky key rings before
insertingt he SmartKey into the ignition lock.
!Keep the SmartKey away from stron gmag-
netic fields. Otherwise, the remote control
function could be affected.
Strong magnetic fields can occur in the vicin-
ity of powerful electrical installations.

on if it is activated in the on-board computer
(
Ypage 173).

Bear in mind that the engine can be started by
any of the vehicle occupants if there is aKEY-
LESS-GO key in the vehicle (

The driver' sdoor and th edoor at whicht hehan-
dle is used, must bothbec losed. The SmartKey
must be outside th evehicle .When locking or
unlocking with KEYLESS-GO ,the distance
between th ekey and th ecorresponding door
handle must not be greater than 3ft(1m).

Unlocking and opening doors from
the inside
!
The side windows will not open/close if the
battery is discharged or if the side windows
have iced up. It will then not be possible to
close the door. Do not attempt to forcet he
door closed. You could otherwise damage the
door or the side window.
You can open adoor from inside the vehicle
even if it has been locked.
If the vehicle has previously been locked from
the outside, openin gadoor from the inside will
trigger the anti-theft alarm system .Switc hoff
the alarm (
Ypage 61).
XPull door handle ;.
If the door is locked, locking knob :pops up.
The door is unlocked and can be opened.
When adoor is opened, the side window on that
side opens slightly. When the door is closed, the
side window closes again.
Centrally locking and unlocking the
vehicle from the inside
You can centrally lock or unlock the vehicle from
the inside. For example, you can unlock the
front-passenge rdoor from the inside or lock the
vehicle before you pull away.
XTo unlock: press button :.

If the front-passenge rdoor is closed, the vehi-
cle locks.
The central locking button does not lock or
unlock the fuel filler flap or the stowage com-
partment in the center console.
You cannot unlock the vehicle centrally from the
inside if the vehicle has been locked with the
SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO.
You can open adoor from inside the vehicle
even if it has been locked.
If al ocked door is opened from the inside, the
previous unlock status of the vehicle will be
taken int oconsideratio nif:
Rthe vehicle was locked using the locking but-
ton for the central locking, or
Rif the vehicle was locked automatically
The vehicle will be fully unlocked if it had previ-
ously been fully unlocked. If only the driver's
door had been previously unlocked, only the
door which has been opened from the inside is
unlocked.
