warning tone sounds. A driver message appears
as well to exp la in the ma lfunction in more deta il.
The driver wa rning goes out after about 5 sec­
onds, but it can be brough t up at any t ime by
pressing the
I S ET I button again .
Check the funct ion disp layed as soon as possible.
The yellow symbol w ill not go o ut again until the
reason for the malfunct io n has been corrected.
If several priority 2 malfunctions are present, the
symbo ls appear in succession and remain for
about 2 seconds.

This reminder appears along with the !I symbol
if the master key is removed from the vehicle
with the eng ine running . It is intended to rem ind
you (e .g . when chang ing drivers) not to conti nue
the journey without the master key.
If the master key is no longer in the veh icle, you
cannot switch off the ignition after stopping the
engine and you a lso cannot start the engine
aga in . You also cannot lock the veh icle from the
ou ts ide .

If the symbol illum inates , the light sensor has
failed . For safety reasons the low beams are
tu rned on permanently with the switch in
AUTO .
However, yo u can cont inue to turn t he lig hts on
and off us ing the light switch. In the case of a de ­
fect in the rain sensor, the windshield wipe r lever
functions are still available. Have the light/rain sensor checked as soon as poss ible by an author­
i z ed Audi dealer.

again
I f this drive r notific ation appea rs after the igni­
tion is turned on or while driv ing and does not go
out again, the battery's state of charge is not in
the optimal range. Starting capability is restrict­
ed. Have the battery checked at an a uthori zed
Audi dealer or other qualified workshop as soon
as possib le.

the driver information system. Keep in mind that
the engine speed will not exceed the value dis ­
p layed in the driver information system, for ex­
ample when downshifting.

When the II symbol illum inates, you can a lter
your d riving style to assist the fi lter self-cleaning
process . Dr ive for approx imately 15 minutes with
the selector leve r in the S position at a minimum
speed of 37 mph (60 km/h) and an engine speed
of approximate ly 2,000 RPM. The temperature
increase that will result from this can burn off
the soot in the filter. The symbol will switch off
when the clean ing is successful. After a success­
ful cleaning, there is no need to br ing the car to
a n author ized dealer or qualified workshop be­
cause this is part of no rmal veh icle operat ion.
If the symbol
II does not switch off, see your
author ized dealer or other qualif ied workshop to
have the prob lem corrected.

column loc k bec ause i t cannot be stee red due
to the loc ked steering. If it is towed w ith the

and start the engine with the master key with re­ mote control. A mechanical key is integrated in
the master key

The emergency key is not intended for constant
use . It should only be used in an emergency , for
example, in place of the ignition key

carry it on your key ring or store it in the vehicle.
Key replacement

Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
Number of keys
You can inquire about the number of assigned
keys to your vehicle
Q page 9. This allows you to
make sure you have received all of the keys when
you purchase a used vehicle. Depending on the
vehicle equipment level, this function may also
be performed in the MMI*. To do this, select:

and tell you about the work your veh icle needs.
This applies also to vehicles with Convenience key* .
Personal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own" master key. When the ignition is turned off or when the
vehicle is locked, personal convenience settings
for the following systems are stored and as­
signed to the remote master key.
- Climate control
- Central locking system
- Seat memory*
- Parking system*
- Adaptive cruise control*
- Audi side assist*
- Audi drive select*
The stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open the
doors or when you turn on the ignition.
A WARNING
-.
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended with
the key in the ignition lock . Entry by unau­
thorized persons could endanger you or re­
sult in theft or damage the vehicle . Always
lock all doors and take the key .
- Do not leave children unattended in the ve­
hicle, especially with access to vehicle keys.
Unguarded access to the keys provides chil­
dren the opportunity to start the engine
and/or activate vehicle systems such as the
power windows etc. Unsupervised operation
of any vehicle system by children can result
in serious injury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com­
plete stop. Otherwise the steering column
lock could suddenly engage -causing the
risk of an accident.

be temporarily disrupted by interference
from transmitters in the vicinity of the .,.

vehicle working in the same frequency range
(e .g . a cell phone, rad io equipment) .
- If you open the dr iver's door with the key
l eft in the ignition lock, a chime will sound .
This is your reminder to remove the key and
l ock the door.

provides information about different condit io ns.
• The check light comes on b riefly once when a
button is pressed, and during an "i nq ui ry" by
the conven ience key system .
• If the check light does not come on, the battery
is dead and has to be replaced. In addition,
when the batt ery is dead the

• Pull the mechanica l key out of the master key

battery holder and at the same time pull the
battery holder out of the master key in the di­
rection of the arrow .
• Install the new battery CR 2032 with the "+"
s ign facing down .
• Pu sh the battery holder carefully into the mas ­
ter key.

Dispose of dead bat teries properly so as not

Emergency unlocking of the ign ition key
In the event of malfunctions in the electrical sys­
tem, it may happen that you cannot remove the
ignition key.

If you are unable to remove the ignition key, for
examp le because the vehicle battery is dis­
charged, proceed as follows:

.. Have the electrical system inspected by an au­
thorized Aud i dealership.
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthorized
use of your vehicle.
Inside the key there is a computer chip. This chip
automatically deactivates the electronic immo­
b ilizer when you insert the key in the ignition
lock . When you remove the key from the ignition
lock, the electronic immobilizer is automatically
activated once aga in .
(D Tips
- The vehicle cannot be started if an unau­
thorized key is used. The vehicle may not
start if another radio device such as a key
for another vehicle or a transponder is lo­
cated on the key ring.

Central locking
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors and the rear lid simultaneously.
You can lock and unlock the vehicle centrally. You have the following choices:
- Remote master key

- Door hand les with Convenience key*

-Lock cylinder at the driver's door ¢ page 38,
or
- Power locking switch inside
¢ page 39 .
Selective unlocking
When you lock the vehicle, the power locking sys ­
tem will lock the doors and the rear lid. When
unlocking, you can set in the radio or in the MMI*
whether
only the driver's door or the entire vehi­
cle should be unlocked
r::!;) page 36 .
Automatic locking
The automatic locking feature locks all the vehi ­
cle doors and the rear lid when you drive faster
than
9 mph (15 km/h).
The car is unlocked again once the ignition key is
removed . In addition, the vehicle can be unlocked
if the opening funct ion in the power locking sys­
tem switch or at one of the door levers is actuat­
ed .
Additionally, in the event of a crash with airbag
deployment the doors are automatica lly un­
locked to allow access to the vehicle.
Anti-theft alarm warning system
If the anti-theft alarm warning system detects a
break-in into the veh icle, acoustic and visual
warning signals are triggered.
The anti-theft warning system is activated auto­
matically when you lock the vehicle . It is deacti­
vated when unlock ing using the
remote key, with
the
mechanical key , and when you switch on the
ignition .
The alarm also turns off when the alarm cycle has exp ired.

When you unlock the vehicle , the turn signa ls
flash twice. When you lock the vehicle, the turn
signals flash once. If they do not flash, one of the
doors, the rear lid or the hood is not locked .
Unintentionally locking your self out
In the following cases there safegua rds to pre ­
vent you lock ing your remote master key in the
vehicle:
- T he vehicle does not lock with the power lock­
ing switch

- On vehicles with Convenience key*, if the most
recently used master key is in the luggage com­
partment, the rear l id is automa tically unlocked
again after it is closed.

A WARNING
- When you leave the vehicle, always remove
the ignition key and take it with you . This
will prevent passengers (children, for exam­ ple) from accidentally being locked in the
vehicle should they acc identally press the
power locking switch in the front doors .
- Do not leave children inside the vehicle un­
superv ised . In an emergency it would be im­
poss ible to open the doors from the outs ide
without the key .
@ Tips
-In the event of a crash with airbag deploy­
ment all locked doors will be automat ically
unlocked to give access to the veh icle occu­
pants from the outside .
- If the power lock ing system should mal­
funct ion, you can lock the driver's door us­
i ng the mechanical key

can still open the fuel tank flap in an emer­
gency

Even a proper ly locked veh icle cannot pro­
vide the security of a safe.
- If the LED in the upper edge of the driver's
door panel comes on for about 30 seconds
after the vehicle is locked, there is a mal­
function in the power locking or the anti­
theft warning system. Have the malfunction corrected by an authorized Aud i dealership
or qualified repair fac ility .
Setting power locking
The driver can determine the functions for power
locking in the radio or in the MM!*.

the remote control key unlocks the ent ire vehi­

on the remo te control key once unlocks only
the driver's door. In veh icles w ith a convenience
key*, only the door whose handle you pull will
unlock. If you press the
l@J button tw ice, the en­
tire veh icle will unlock.
