You cannot unlock the vehicle centrally from the
inside if the vehicle has been locked from the
outside.
For all countries except the United Kingdom:
you can open a door from inside the vehicle evenif it has been locked.
Only for the United Kingdom: if the vehicle
has been locked with the key from the outside,
the double lock function is activated as stand-
ard. It is then not possible to open the doors
from inside the vehicle. You can deactivate the
double lock function by deactivating the interior
motion sensor (Y page 76). The doors can then
be opened from the inside after the vehicle has been locked from the outside.
For all countries: when a locked door is opened
from inside the vehicle, the previous unlocking
process will be observed if the vehicle has been:
R locked with the locking button for the central
locking or
R locked automatically
The vehicle will be fully unlocked if it had previ-
ously been fully unlocked. Only the door which
has been opened from the inside is unlocked if
only the driver's door had been previously
unlocked. Automatic locking feature

To deactivate: press and hold button :for
about five seconds until a tone sounds.
X To activate: press and hold button ;for
about five seconds until a tone sounds.
If you press one of the two buttons and do not
hear a tone, the relevant setting has already
been selected.
The vehicle is locked automatically when the
ignition is switched on and the wheels are turn-
ing. Therefore, you could be locked out if:
R the vehicle is being pushed
R the vehicle is being towed
R the vehicle is being tested on a dynamometer.
You can also activate and deactivate the auto-
matic locking function using the on-board com- puter (Y page 247). Power closing
Power closing pulls the doors into their locks
automatically even if they are only partly closed.
X To power close a door: push the door into
the lock up to the first detent position.
Power closing will pull the door fully closed. Unlocking the driver's door (emer-
gency key element)
If the vehicle can no longer be unlocked with the key or KEYLESS-GO, use the emergency key ele-ment.
X Take the emergency key element out of the
key (Y page 80). X
Insert the emergency key element into open-
ing :in the protective cap.

as straight as possible away from the vehicle until it releases.

If you use the emergency key element to unlock

If the vehicle can no longer be locked with the

X Open the driver's door.
X Close the front-passenger door, the rear
doors and the tailgate.

X Check whether the locking knobs on the
front-passenger door and the rear doors are
still visible. Press the locking knobs down by
hand if necessary.
X Close the driver's door.
X Take the emergency key element out of the
key (Y page 80). X

X Pull the protective cap on the emergency key
as straight as possible away from the vehicle until it releases.

The tailgate is equipped with automatic obstacle
detection with reversing feature. If a solid object blocks or restricts the tailgate when automati-
cally opening or closing, this procedure is stop- ped. If the tailgate is stopped during the closing
procedure, it will open again automatically. The
automatic obstacle detection with reversing
function is only an aid. It is not a substitute for
your attentiveness when opening and closing
the tailgate. G

erly people or people in need of special assis-
tance. Do not activate the double lock when
people are in the vehicle.
If the vehicle has been locked from the outside, the double lock function is activated as stand-
ard. It is then not possible to open the doors
from inside the vehicle. You can deactivate the
double lock function by deactivating the interior
motion sensor (Y page 76). The doors can then
be opened from the inside after the vehicle has
been locked from the outside. You can only open the rear doors from inside the vehicle if they are
not secured by the child-proof locks

You can continue to operate the side windows
after switching off the engine or removing the
key. This function remains active for five
minutes or until the driver's or front-passenger
door is opened.
The side windows cannot be operated from the
rear when the override feature for the side win-
dows is activated (Y page 63). Convenience opening feature

start function:
you can ventilate the vehicle
before you start driving.
To do this, the key is used to carry out the fol-
lowing functions simultaneously:
R unlock the vehicle
R open the side windows
R open the panorama sliding sunroof and the
roller sunblind
R switch on the seat ventilation for the driver's
seat
The convenience opening feature can only be
operated using the key. The key must be close to
the vehicle. For vehicles without KEYLESS-GO,
the key must be near the driver's door handle.
The "convenience opening" feature is also avail-
able when the vehicle is unlocked. Side windows
