Selecting the driving mode

You can choose between Comfort , Auto , Dy ­
namic

You can change the driving mode whe n the ve­
hicle is stationary or wh ile driving. If traffic
permits, after changing modes, briefly take
you r foot off the acce le rator pedal so that the
recently selected mode is a lso activated for
the engine and transmission .
Comf ort -prov ides a comfort-orie nted ve hicle
setup and is suited for long drives on high­
ways .
Auto -provides an overall comfor table ye t dy­
nam ic dr iving feel and is suited for every day
u se.
D ynamic -gives the driver a sporty d riving
feel and is suited to a spo rty dr iv ing style.

Parking system
Applies to vehicles: with parking system plus/parking sys­
tem plus with rear view camera
The parking system may be used for parking
or maneuvering.
Depending on your vehicle's equipment, vari­
ous parking aids will help you when park ing
and maneuvering.
The
parking system plus assists you when
parking by audibly and visually indicat ing ob­
jects detected
in front of and behind the vehi­
cle
~p age 105.
The parking system plus with rear view cam­
era
shows the area behind the vehicle in the
d isplay. This display assists you when you are
reverse or parallel parking<=>
page 106. In ad­
dition, you are assisted by the functions from
the parking system plus~
page 105.

Make sure the sensors are not covered by
st ickers, deposits or any other obstruc­
tions as it may impair the
sensor function.
For information on cleaning, refer to

Parking system plus
Description
Applies to vehicles: with parking system plus
Audi parking system plus provides audio and
visual signals when parking.
Sensors are located in the front and rear
bumpers. If these detect an obstacle, visual
and audible s ignals warn you. The range at
which the sensors begin to measure is approx­
imately:

front 3 ft (0.90 m)
center
4 ft (1.20 m)
side 2 ft (0 .60 m)
rear
center S.2 ft (1.60 m)
Park assist 105
The
closer you get to the obstacle, the shorter
the interva l between the audible signals. A
continuous tone sounds when the obstacle is less than approximately 1
ft (0.30 m) away.
Do not continue driving farther!
If the distance to an obstacle stays the same,
the volume of the d istance signa l chime is
gradually reduced after about
4 seconds (does
not affect the continuous signal tone).

Using the red segments, you can est ima te the
d istance to an object in front of or behind the
vehicle
c::> fig. 122. As your vehicle comes clos­
er to the obstacle, the segments move closer
to the vehicle. At the latest the collision area
has been reached when the next to last seg­
ment is displayed. Do not continue driving far­
ther forward or in reverse

A WARNING
-The parking system cannot rep lace the
dr iver's attention. The driver is always re­
sponsible for safety d uring parking and
f or all o ther maneuvers.
- Sensors and cameras have blind spots in
wh ich peop le and objec ts cannot be de­
tected . Be especially cautious of small
children and animals .
- Always keep your eyes on the veh icle's
surroundings, using the rear view mirro r
as well.
(D Note
Low obstacles al ready signa led by a warn­
ing can disappear from the system's detec­
tion range as they are approached and will
not continue to be signa led . Objects such
as barrier chains, trailer draw bars, thin
pa inted vertical poles or fences may not be
detected by the system, posing risk of
damage.

You can choose between two modes to assist
you w ith parking. For example, you can use
"parking model" when parking in a parking
space or garage

The rear acoustic park ass ist system is inte­
grated in the rear of the vehicle and the rear
view camera is integrated in the rear lid
c::> page 108.
A WARNING
--The rear view camera has blind spots, in
which ob jects canno t be detec ted. Be es­
pec ia lly careful to che ck for small chil ­
dren and anima ls before backing up .
Sma ll children and animals will not a l­
ways be detected by the sensors.

General Information

Sensors in the bumper
Sensors are located in the front and rear
bumpers. If these detect an obstacle, audible
and visual signals warn you. The range at
which the sensors begin to measure is approx­
i mately :

Distance warning when reversing starts when
an obstacle is detected in the range of the
parking assist system. As the distance de­
creases, the time interva l between the audib le
tones becomes shorter.
When the distance is less than 1 ft (0 .30 m),
the tone becomes continuous. At this point
you should stop backing up.
If the d istance to an obstacle stays the same,
the volume of the distance signal chime is
gradually reduced after about 4 seconds (does
Park assist 107
not affect the continuous signal tone). Ap­
proaching another obstacle will cause the dis­
tance signal to sound again at the norma l vo l­
ume .
Rear view camera coverage area
The MMI display shows the area covered by
the rear view camera
c:> fig. 125 (!). Objects
that are not in the area covered @are not
shown on the MMI display .
We recommend that you practice parking with
the rear view camera in a traffic-free location
or parking lot to become familiar with the sys­
tem, the orientation lines, and their function.
When doing this, there should be good light
and weather cond itions.
In the MMI display, objects or vehicles appear
closer or further away if:
-you are driving in reverse gear from a leve l
surface onto an incline, or a downward
slope,
-you are driving in reverse gear toward pro­
trud ing ob jects,
- the vehicle is car ry in g too much load in the
rear.
The accuracy of the orientation lines and blue
surfaces diminishes if:
- the rear view camera does not provide a reli­
able image, for example, in poor visibility
conditions or if the lens is dirty,
- the image on the screen is not vis ible due to
sun glare and reflection.
Caring for the rear view camera lens
The rear view camera is located above the rear
license plate bracket. For the parking assist to
operate, the lens
c:> fig . 126 must be kept
clean:
- Dampen the lens with a household alcohol­
based glass cleaner, and clean the lens with
a dry cloth

- Remove snow with a hand brush and ice
preferably with a de-ic ing spray

- The parking aid cannot replace the driv­
er's attention . The driver a lone is respon­
sible fo r parki ng a nd s imilar driving ma­
neuvers.
- Always keep your eyes on the veh icle's
surround ings, using the rear view mirro r
as well.
- Do not allow yourse lf to be d istracted
from traffic by the rear view camera pic­
tu res.
- If the pos it io n and the installat ion angle
of the came ra has changed, fo r example,
afte r a rea r end collision, do not continue
to use the sys tem for s afety reasons.

lens or if t here is a defect.

objects you may have mounted on the rea r lid do n ot b lock the rearview cam­
era .

- The rear view came ra picture is available
as soon as the M MI Display or the M MI is
switched on, or the start- up phase is
completed.
- The sensors m ust be kept clean and free
o f snow and ice for the park assist to op­
erate .

Reverse Parking

Parallel Parking

Use parking mode 2 to help you park on the
edge of a street.

The following steps apply only when there is
no obstacle (such as a wall) near the parking
spot. Otherwise, please read the "Tips on Parking Next to Obstacles"¢
page 110.
.. Activate the turn signal.
.. Position your vehicle parallel to the edge of
the street, approximately 3 ft (1 m) from a parked vehicle .
.. Switch the MMI on and select the reverse
gear. The parking aid turns on and parking
mode 1 appears on the display.

.. Back up in reverse gear and align your vehi­
cle so that the blue area
@ borders on the
rear end of the vehicle or on the parking
spot line. The blue area represents an exten­
sion of the vehicle's outline by approximate­ ly 16 ft (S m) to the rear. The long s ide of the blue
area shou ld be on the curb. The en­
tire blue area must fit into the parking spot.
.. While the vehicle is stationary, turn the
steering wheel to the rig ht as far as it will
go.
" Back into the parking spot. Stop the vehicle
as soon as the blue curve is nea r the curb

"Whil e the vehicle is stationary, turn the
steering wheel to the left as far as it will go .

Parking next to obstacles
When there is an obstacle (such as a wa ll)
next to the parking spot, choose a spot with
more space on the sides. Posit ion the long
s ide of the blue area so that there is suff ic ient
space from the curb . The area must not be on
the curb . You will a lso need to start turning
the steer ing wheel much earlier. There should
be a sufficient amount of space between the
curb and the blue curve, and the blue curve
