EPC Electronic power control
App lies to vehicles: with gaso line engine
This warning/indicator light monitors the elec­
tronic power control .
The Ga warning/indicator light (Electronic Power
Control) illuminates when you turn on the igni­
tion as a function check.

If this warning/indicator light illuminates
while you are driving, then there is a malfunc-

tion in the engine electronics. Have the mal­
function corrected as soon as possible by your
authorized Audi dealer or qualified workshop.
W Glow plug system
Applies to vehicles: wit h diese l eng ine
The control light illuminates when the glow plug
system is active.
If the II indicator light illuminates, the glow
plug system is active. You should start the engine
immediately after the indicator light switches off.
The indicator light only illuminates for approxi­ mately 1 second if the engine is warm or if the
outside temperature is above 46 QF (8 Q().
(D Tips
-If the glow plug indicator light illuminates
while driving, there is an engine control
malfunction. The engine should be checked
immediately.
- If the indicator light does not illuminate at
all when switching the ignition on, there
may be a malfunction in the glow plug sys­
tem. The engine should be checked.
;;.ll/4 Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC)
If the Bl indicator light blinks while driving, the
ESC or ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation) is actively regu­
lating.
If the
Bl indicator light turns on, the system has
switched the ESC off. In this case, you can switch
the ignition off and then on to switch the ESC on
again. The indicator light turns off when the sys­
tem is functioning fully.
If the. indicator light turns on, ESC was re­
stricted using the
!.P-O FF I button c> page 191.
Stabilization control (ESC/ABS): Fault! See

If the Bl indicator light and the ABS indicator
light
LtB (USA models) 1iJ (Canada models)
turn on and the message appears, the ABS or
electronic differential lock is malfunctioning . This

Malfunction in th e electronic diffe rential
lock (EDL )
The EDL works together with the ABS . The ABS
warning light wi ll come on if there is a malfunc­
t ion in the EDL system
q page 191 . See your au­
t hor ized Audi dealer as soon as possible.
A WARNING
- If the Lil3 (USA models) ;[IJ (Canada mod ­
els) warning light does not go out , or if it
comes on while d riving, the ABS system is
not working properly. The vehicle can the n
be stopped only with the standard brakes
(without ABS) . You wi ll not have the protec­
tion ABS p rovides . Contact your authorized
Audi dealer as soon as possible .
- If the
1111 (USA models)/ . (Canada mod­
els) brake system indicator light t urns on to ­
gether wit h the ABS and ESC indicator
lights , the ABS/ESC regulating function may
have failed. Funct ions that stab ilize the ve­
hicle are no longer availab le. This could
cause the vehicle to swerve and increase the
risk of sliding . Driv e ca refully to the nea rest
autho rized Aud i dealer o r othe r qualified
wor kshop and have the malfunction correc t­
ed.
:fil .lC® ) Electromechanical parking brake
The warning/indicator light monitors the elec­
trome chanical parking brake.
W ith the parking brake applied and the ign it ion
turned on, the. (USA models)/ . (Cana-
da models) warning/indicator light illuminates.
Afte r the ig nitio n has been turned off , the warn­
ing/indicator light continues to illum inate fo r
about 30 seconds . If the parking brake is applied
w ith the ignition t urned off, the warning/indica­
tor light illuminates for abo ut 30 seconds.
The warning/indicator ligh t will go o ut when t he
parking brake is re leased .

If the war ning/ indicato r light flashes cont inuous­
ly
after applying the p ark ing brake , brak ing fo rce
is no t sufficient to prevent the vehicle from roll­
ing unintentiona lly . Please note the following:

- I f the slope of the ground is too steep to pa rk
the vehicle, the add itiona l driv e message ap ­
pears
Caution: Vehicle parked too steep.
- In the event of a pa rking brake malfunction ,
the yellow
Ill symbol appears in the instru­
ment cluster display and the driver message
Pa rk ing brake malfunction! is displayed. Have
the malfu nction repaired as soon as possible by
an authorized A udi dealer or any other qualified
workshop .
BRAKE/C(D) Brake system
The warning/indicator light flashes if brake fluid
level is low, if there is an ABS system malfunc­
tion or a parking brake malfunction .
The 1111 (USA models)/ . (Canada models)
l ight illum inates when the ignition is turned on .
It goes out after the engine has been started.
This ind icates that the brake warn ing light is
fun ct io ni ng properly.
If th e brake warning light does not light up
when the engine is cranking, there may be a
malfunction in the electrical system. In this
case, conta ct an authorized Audi dealer .
If the brake system warning/indicator light flash­
es, there is a brake system malfunction . By press­
i ng the
IS ET I button , you can b ring up a dr iver
message wh ich explains the malfunction in mo re

On Board Diagnostic
System (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ¢• in the
instrument cluster
c:::> page 14, fig. 8 is part of the
On-Board Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
The warning/indicator light i lluminates when the
ignition is switched on and goes out after the en­
gine starts and the idle has stabilized. This indi­
cates that the MIL is working properly.
If the light does not go out after the engine is
started, or illuminates while you are driving, a
malfunction may exist in the engine system. If
the light illuminates, the catalytic converter
could be damaged.
Continue driving
with reduced power (avoiding
sustained high speeds and/or rapid acce lerations)
and have the condition corrected. Contact your
authorized Audi dealer.
I f the light illuminates, the electronic speed lim­
iter may also be malfunctioning. For more infor­
mation
c::> page 26, Electronic speed limiter.
An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate (only vehicles
with gasoline engine)

On-Board Diagnostics

On-Board Diagnostics monitors the components
of yo ur emission control system. Each monitored
component in your engine system has been as­
signed a code . In case of a malfunction, the com­
ponent will be identified and the fault stored as a
code in the control module memory.

The MIL light may also illuminate if there is a
l eak in the on-board fuel vapor recovery system.
If the light illuminates after a refueling, stop the
vehicle and make sure the fuel filler cap is prop­
erly closed (only vehicles with gasoline engine)

In order to make an accurate diagnosis, the stor ­
ed data can only be displayed using specia l diag­
nostic equipment (generic scan tool for OBD).
In order to connect the specia l diagnostic equip­
ment, push the plug into the Data Link Connector
(DLC) . The DLC is located to the right of the hood
release

Your authorized Audi dealer or qualified work­ shop can interpret the code and perform the nec­
essary repair .
A WARNING
Do not use the diagnostic connector for per­
sonal use. Incorrect usage can cause malfunc­
tions, which can increase the r isk of a coll i­
sion!
Electronic speed limiter
Your vehicle may be factory equ ipped with tires
that are rated for a maximum speed of 130 mph
(210 km/h) . Th is is less than the max imum speed
of your veh icle. To reduce the risk of sudden tire
failure and loss of control if the vehicle is ope rat­
ed at excessive speeds, your vehicle also has an
electronic speed limiter . The electronic speed
limiter prevents your vehicle from going faster
than the tire speed rating. For more information
c::> page 242.
If the engine contro l unit receives faulty vehicle
road speed signals, the Malfunction Indicator
Lamp (MIL) ¢•will illuminate. If this occurs,
contact the nearest authorized Audi dealer for as­
sistance.
SQS
Your vehicle's top speed is electronically limited
to 155 mph (250 km/h).
If the engine contro l unit receives faulty vehicle
road speed s ignals, the Malfunction Ind icator ..,_

cooling system -you could damage your en­
gine.
9=:;r: Engine oil pressure malfunction
The red engine oil pressure warning symbol re­
quires immediate service or repair. Driving with a
low oil pressure indication is likely to cause se­
vere engine damage .
If the . symbol on the display flashes, the en­
g ine oil pressure is too low. A driver message ap­
pears as well to explain the malfunction in more
deta il. The dr iver warning goes out after about 5
seconds, but it can be brought up at any time by
p ress ing the
ISETI but to n again.
Turn off engine! Oil pressure too low
• Stop the vehicle .
• Turn the eng ine off .
• Check the eng ine oil level

Engine oil level too low
If the engine o il level is too low, add engine oi l

Engine oil level correct
If the symbol . flashes even though the engine
oil level is correct, please contact your nearest
authorized Audi Dealer for assistance. Do not
continue driving . Do not leave the engine running
idle, either.
(D Tips
- The engine oil pressure symbol. is not
an indicator for a low engine oil level. Do
not rely on it. Instead, check the oil level in
your engine at regular intervals, preferably each time you refuel, and always before
going on a long trip.
- The yellow oil level warning indication

out delay. Do not wait until the red oil

ing column lock, the steering cannot be un­
locked.

A WARNING
Your vehicle must not be towed in the event
of a malfunction in the electronic steering co l­
umn lock because it cannot be steered due to
the locked steering. If it is towed with the
steering locked, there is the risk of an acci­
dent.
© -Ignition lock malfunct ion
A malfunction in the ignition lock must be re­
paired immediately.
If the . symbo l in the display blinks, there is a
malfunction in the electronic ignition lock. A driv ­
er message appears as well to explai n the mal­
funct ion in more deta il. The driver warning goes
out after about 5 seconds, but it can be brought
up at any time by pressing the
ISETI button again.

On vehicles with Convenience key*, the engine
should not be switched off using the Start/Stop
button because the engine cannot be started
again after the ignition has been switched off.

This reminder appears along with the II symbol
if the master key is removed from the vehicle
with the eng ine running. It is intended to remind
you (e .g. when changing drivers) not to continue
the journey without the master key .
If the master key is no longer in the vehicle, you
cannot switch off the ignit ion after stopping the
e ngine and you a lso cannot start the engine
aga in . You also cannot lock the veh icle from the
outsid e.

If the symbol illum inates, the light sensor has
failed. For safety reasons the low beams are
tu rned on permanently with the sw itch in
AUTO .
However, you can contin ue to turn the lights on
and off using the light sw itch. In the case of a de­
f ect in the rain sensor, the windshie ld wiper lever
functions are still available. Have the light/rain
sensor checked as soon as possib le by an author­
i zed Audi dealer.

failed. The message indicates the location of the

Seats and storag e

-Always remove objects from the instrument
panel. Any items not put away could slide
around inside the vehicle while dr iving or
when accelerating or when applying the brakes or when dr iv ing aro und a corner .
- When you are driving make sure that any­
thi ng you may have placed in the cente r con­
so le or other storage loca tions cannot fall
o ut into the footwells. I n case of sudden
braking you would not be able to brake or
acce lerate .
- Any pieces of cloth ing that you have hung
up must not interfere with the driver's view .
The coat hooks are designed only for light­
weight cloth ing . Never hang any clothing
with hard, pointed or heavy objects in the
pockets on the coat hooks. During sudden
braking or in an acc ident -especially if the
airbag is deployed -these objects could in­
jure any passengers ins ide the veh icle.

The glove comportment is illuminated and con

cy key must be clipped to be able to start the ve ­

Cooling box in glove compartment
The cooling box works only when the air-condi­
tioning is in cooling mode.
