Instruments and indicator Lights
The numbe r of keys programmed to the vehicle is
also displayed. The disp lay
L2 3 /3 indicates that
three keys have been programmed. This allows
you to make sure you have received all of the keys
when you purchase a used veh icle.
F or examp le, if you on ly receive two keys, you
should ta ke those keys to your authorized Audi
dealer to have the missing key deactivated so it
cannot be used. You sh ould also report the miss
i n g key to your insurance company .
Calling up the driver info rmation
A yellow or red symbol appears in the inst rument
cluster display, usua lly with a driver message .
The driver message display disappears after about 5 seconds. The dr iver message can be dis
p layed aga in by briefly pressing the
IS ET I button .
Setting the speed warning
By press ing the I SETI b utton briefly , you can set
threshold 1 of the speed warning whi le you are
driving

Fuel gauge
The fuel gauge works only when the igniti on is
o n.
When the needle reaches t he rese rve mark, the
c::;, page 33 Ji] symbol appears in the instru
ment cluster disp lay as well as the message
Please refuel. This message is meant to rem ind
yo u to
refuel.
The tota l tank capacity of your ve hicle is listed in
c::;, page 2 78.

N eve r run the ta nk comp letely dry! A n irregu
l a r supply of fuel can cause eng ine misfir ing
and fuel could enter into the ex haust system.
The cata lytic converter could then overheat
and be damaged .

Always observe the posted speed limits and adjust your speed to suit prevailing road, traf
fic and weather cond it ions . Never drive your
vehicle faster than the maximum speed rating
of the tires installed .
Auto Check Control
Introduction
The Auto-Check control monitors the function of
certain vehicle features and components .
It sim
ply makes sure these features and components
are working properly . The Auto-Check control
works as long as the ignition is on, as well as
whenever the veh icle is driven .
-
If a component is malfunctioning or if the need
for an urgent repair has been detected, this will appear in the instrument cluster display . You w ill
also hear an audible warning tone . The displays
are color coded in either red or ye llow depending
on their level of prior ity.
A red symbol means

Warning . In certain situations, informa
tion message for the dr iver appear in addition to
the red and yellow symbols.
Note about automatic transmission
The Auto-Check Control will automat ically per
form a test each time you switch o n the ignition .
With the selector lever in P or N, the following
message appears in the display :
When stationary apply brake pedal while select
ing gear
When you select a different gear (for example: R,
D, etc.), the message will disappear and the Au
to -Check function is d isplayed.
If there is a malfunction, then the malfunction
message will appear about 15 seconds after you
start the vehicle. At the same time you will hear a
warning tone.

Dr iver information messages
Driver information messages are shown in the in
strument cluster display in addition to symbols .

For example, if the transmission selector lever is
not in the P position when the engine is turned
off, the following message appears :
Shift to P otherwise vehicle can roll away. Doors
do not lock if lever is not in P .
The ign ition key can only be removed w ith these
lector in this position . This and other messages
are bro ught up if a function cannot be carried
out .
Driver messages and red symbols
If a red symbol appears in the display, a driver
message is also displayed automatically.
For example, the symbol for a problem w ith en
gine oil pressure . appears in the display . The
fo llow ing message appears:
Turn off engine! O il pressure too low
T he driver message in the display goes out after
about S seconds . The dr iver message can be dis
played again by briefly press ing the
ISETI button

Driver messages and yellow symbols
If a yellow symbol appears in the display, a driver
message is also displayed automatically .
For example, the symbol

~ Do not turn the engine off.
~ Drive immediately to an authorized Audi dealer
to have the malfunction corrected .
If there is a malfunction in the e lectronic ignition
l ock, the ignition cannot be turned off . Drive im
mediately to an authorized service facility to have
the cause of the ma lfunction corrected.
On vehicles with Convenience key*, the engine
should not be switched off using the Start/Stop
button because the engine cannot be started
again after the ignition has been switched off.

When a ye llow warning symbol appears, one
warning tone so unds . A driver message appears
as we ll to exp la in the malf unction in more detail.
The driver warning goes out after about S sec
onds, but it can be brought up at any time by press ing t he
ISETI button again.
Check the function d isp layed as soon as possible.
The yellow symbol w ill not go out aga in until the
reason for the malfunction has been corrected.
If several priority 2 malfunctions are present, the
symbols appear in succession and remain for
about 2 seconds.

II Is the key in the vehicle ?
This reminder appears along with the II symbol
if the master key is removed from the vehicle
with the eng ine running. It is intended to remind
you (e .g. when changing drivers) not to continue
the journey without the master key .
If the master key is no longer in the vehicle, you
cannot switch off the ignit ion after stopping the
e ngine and you a lso cannot start the engine
aga in . You also cannot lock the veh icle from the
outsid e.

If the symbol illum inates, the light sensor has
failed. For safety reasons the low beams are
tu rned on permanently with the sw itch in
AUTO .
However, you can contin ue to turn the lights on
and off using the light sw itch. In the case of a de
f ect in the rain sensor, the windshie ld wiper lever
functions are still available. Have the light/rain
sensor checked as soon as possib le by an author
i zed Audi dealer.

contact your author ized Audi dealer or qualified
workshop to have all brake pads inspected. On

failed. The message indicates the location of the
bulb .
Im-If a front fog lamp has fai led, the indicator
li ght turns on to indicate the location on the vehi-
cle.

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle and
start the engine w ith the master key with remote
contro l. A mechanical key is integ rated in the

The emergency key is not intended for constant
use . It shou ld only be used in an emergency .
Keep it in a safe place and do not carry it on your
key ring.
Key replacement
If you lose a key, contact your authorized Audi
dealer immediately to have the
lost key disabled.
Be sure to bring all your keys with you .
Number of key s
You ca n inquire about the number of assigned
keys to your vehicle¢
page 11. This allows you to
make sure you have received all of the keys when
you purchase a used vehicle . Depending on the
veh icle equ ipment level , th is function may also
be performed in the
MM I* . To do this, se lect:

Data in the master key
During dr iv ing, serv ice and ma intenance-relevant
data is continuously stored on you r mas ter key.
Your Audi service adviser can read o ut this data

and te ll yo u about the work you r vehicle needs .
This applies also to vehicles with Convenience key* .
Personal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recomme nded
that each perso n always uses "their own" master
key. When the ignition is tu rne d off or when the
vehicle is locked, persona l convenience settings
for the following systems are stored and as
signed to the remote master key.
- Climate cont ro l
- Centra l locking system
- Sea t memory*
- Parki ng system*
- Adaptive cru ise cont rol*
- Audi side assist*
- Aud i drive se lect *
The store d settings are au toma tic ally reca lled
when you unlock the vehi cle, when yo u open the
doors or when yo u turn on the ignition.
A WARNING
-
- Do not leave your ve hicle unattended with
the key in the ignition lock. Entry by una u
thorized persons could endanger you or re
sult in theft or damage the ve hicle. Always
loc k all doors and take the key .
- Do not leave ch ild ren unattended in the ve
hicle, especially with access to vehicle keys .
Ungua rded access to the keys provides chil
dren the opportu nity to s tart the engine
a nd/or ac tiva te ve hicle sys te m s su ch as the
power w ind ow s etc. Unsup ervised op eration
of any vehicle system by childre n can resul t
in ser ious injury.
- Do not remove the key fr om the ign ition lock
until the ve hicle has come to a com plete
sto p. Otherwise the steering co lumn lock
could suddenly engage -causing the risk of
an accident.
(D Tips
- The operation o f the remote con trol key ca n
be temporarily d isrupted by interference .,..
from transmitters in the v icinity of the vehi
cle working in the same frequency range
(e.g . a cell phone, rad io equipment).
- If you open the driver's door with the key
l eft in the ign ition lock, a chime will sound .
This is your reminder to remove the key and
l ock the door.
- For security reasons, replacement keys are
on ly available from Audi dea lers.

provides informat ion about different conditions.

button is pressed, and dur ing an "inqui ry" by
the conven ience key system.

is dead and has to be replaced. In addition,

Emergency unlocking of the ignition key
In th e event of malfunctions in the electrical sys
tem, it may happen that you cannot remove the
ignition key.

If you are unab le to remove the ignition key, for
examp le because the vehicle battery is d is
charged, proceed as follows:

Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthorized
use of your vehicle .
Inside the key there is a computer chip . This ch ip
automatically deact ivates the electronic immobil
izer when you insert the key in the ignition lock.
When you remove the key from the ig nition lock,
the electro nic immobilizer is automatically acti
vated once again .

-The vehicle cannot be started if an unau
thorized key is used . T he vehicle may no t
start if another radio device such as a key
fo r anot her vehicle o r a transpo nder is locat
ed on the key r ing.

Central locking
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks oil
doors and the rear lid simultaneously .
You can lock and unlock the ve hicle centrally . You
have the following choices:
- Remote master key

or
- Power lo ck ing swit ch inside

Selective unlocking
When you lock the vehicle, the power locki ng sys
tem will lock the doors and t he rear lid . When un
l ocking, yo u can set in the rad io or in the MMI*
whethe r
only the dr iver's door or the ent ire vehi
cl e should be u nlocked

Automatic locking
The automatic locking feature locks all the vehi
cle doors and the rear lid whe n you drive faster
than
9 mp h (15 km/h).
The car is unlocked again once the ig nition key is
removed . In a ddi tion, the vehicle can be un locked
i f the open ing funct ion in th e power lock ing sys
tem swit ch or at o ne of the door leve rs is act uat
ed .
Additionally , in the event of a crash with airbag
deployment the doors a re automatically un
l ocked to a llow access to t he veh icle.
Anti-theft alarm w arning system
If the anti-theft a larm warning system detects a
break -in i nto the veh icle, acoustic and visual
warning signals are t rigge red .
The anti-theft warning system is activated auto ma tically when you lock the vehicle. It is deacti
vated when unloc king us ing the
remote key , with
the
me chanical key , and when you switch on the
i gnition .
The alarm also turns off w hen the alarm cycle has
